Electric Over Hydraulic Module For OEM Brake Controller On 2017 GMC Sierra 3500

Question:

I just purchased a fifth wheel camper with the Dexter P/N 071-651-00 EOH brake actuator. I have a 2017 GMC 3500. The brakes take at least 3-5 seconds before activating and only seems like they do when pressing hard on the brake pedal. Is there a module to add or a brake controller to use to make these more reliable?

Hello Dorsey.

If you are looking to still use your OEM brake controller on your 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 you could always add the Adapter Module for BrakeRite Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator - OE Ford, GM Brake Controllers # DX35FR, this should fix the delay that your OEM brake controller is having. It works not just on the BrakeRite but also the Dexter EOH brake actuator.

However, to be honest I haven't heard the greatest things about the OEM brake controllers. If you want a for sure fix then I recommend getting an aftermarket brake controller. The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional # TK57HR has the Electric over Hydraulic setting, it is proportional so it will work in sync with the brakes on your 5th wheel when you apply the brakes in your truck, and this part number even includes the vehicle specific pigtail for a super easy installation.
