Is Dexter Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Compatible with 2012 Chevy Silverado Brake Controller

Question:

i have a 2012 chevy truck with the integral brake controller. i have a trailer with the dexter eh1600 elec over hyd. brakes. is the dx54FR module what i need to get my brakes to work or is there a different module that i need.

The Dexter Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator, # K71-651, is not compatible with the 2007 to current GM integrated trailer brake controllers. The adapters made for other systems are not designed to be used with the Dexter EOH systems. There are 2 options to solve this problem.

The easiest and least expensive is to install an aftermarket controller that is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes like the P2 # 90885. There are tow package wires under the dash of the truck that are used to wire in an aftermarket controller. We also have an FAQ that covers what you will need to do for this installation.

The other option is to use a different EOH actuator and adapter. You could use the HydraStar, # HBA16, and adapter # HBA-CAM. This is the more expensive route to take so if cost is an issue then going with an aftermarket controller is the way to go.
