Features to know about

Check Lubrication Fast: Clear Oil Bath Design

Keeping an eye on bearing health doesn’t get easier than this. The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly uses an oil bath setup with a clear cap that lets you check your oil level at a glance—no need to pull the hub apart. Fill it with 90-weight synthetic oil, and you can spot low or cloudy oil right through the window before it becomes a problem. It’s a clean and simple way to stay ahead of maintenance on heavy-duty axles.

Built for Heavy Loads: 9,000-lb to 10,000-lb Capacity

This Dexter hub is made for serious hauling. It’s rated for 9,000-lb and 10,000-lb general-duty axles manufactured before July 2009 and has a 5,000-lb capacity per hub. The sturdy iron construction handles big loads day after day, while the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern with 5/8" wheel bolts keeps things solid under pressure. Torque the lug nuts to 175–225 ft-lbs and you’re ready to roll with dependable strength.

Everything You Need in One Package: Complete Hub Assembly

This setup comes fully equipped so you can get it installed without chasing down extra parts. Included are inner bearing #387A (2.250" ID), outer bearing #25580 (1.750" ID), inner race #382A, outer race #25520, unitized oil seal #10-51 (2.875" ID, 3.880" OD), oil cap kit #RG04-270, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. It’s all matched and ready to go for a straightforward replacement or rebuild.

Simple Fitment for Older Axles: Direct Replacement Design

If you’re working with an older Dexter setup, this hub takes the guesswork out of finding the right fit. It’s built specifically for general-duty Dexter axles made before July 2009 and matches the proper spindle dimensions—inner bearing 387A and outer bearing 25580—with a pilot hole diameter of 4-3/4". That makes it an easy bolt-on fix for worn or outdated components without modification.

Determining Bolt Pattern

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

you do not disclose that this is the high profile version of this hub. That being said I needed a low profile version and am down for at least an additional week now waiting on the correct hub from another source.

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Hubs for Trailer
To find correct replacement hubs for your Dexter trailer axle you will want to pull one of the existing ones so you can remove its inner and outer bearings. You need these bearing numbers to help you select a new hub that will fit on your axle's spindles. The new hubs must use the same set of bearings as the old ones. Please refer to the linked photo that shows how these numbers are typically stamped into the bearing housing. Once you know your bearing numbers all you need to do is click...

  • Availability of Spindle and Hubs for 10,000 lb Trailer Axle
As you may have noticed, the highest capacity spindle we carry is for a 7,000 lb axle, # TRU37FR. Your best bet is to source the spindles for a 10,000 lb axle through a local trailer shop or dealer. If are able to source the spindles, we do have hubs for 10,000 lb axles. I'll list them below: # 8-430-5UC3 - Dexter Hub Drum for 9K to 10K axles manufactured after July 2009 (for non ABS brakes) - uses inner bearing # 387A, outer bearing # 25580 and oil seal # 10-51 # K08-288-90 - Dexter...

The Disc Brake Kit # K2R1058D13 by Kodiak is the brake set that you will need to use for your 10,000 lb Dexter Torsion axles. When it comes to hardware, like the brake line, I recommend going with the HydraStar Hydraulic Brake Line Kit # HS496-252 which will wear better than other traditional brands. These lines are very flexible so the line is easy to maneuver under the trailer. The only downfall is that you cannot cut the line due to how hard and risky it is to do yourself. All you have...

  • Why Are My Oil Bath Hubs On A Ranger Boat Trailer Running Hot
With what you have replaced, it can only be one or two things that is causing your issue. First will actually be the spindle. It may look good, but very minor imperfections can cause friction and may be what is going on. I would make sure the bearings are seating properly on the spindle and not "rocking" back and forth at all. I also highly recommend making sure the bearings are seating in the hub properly as well. • Replacement Hub and Rotor for 3,500 lb Axle of Trailstar Trailer
I am sure we can help replace all of the brake components but without a brand I can't really help pin point just the hub/rotor. Instead the best we could do is a kit that replaces the hub rotors, the mounting bracket, and the calipers. So you could use the part # K2HR35D and have a replacement for both sides of your axle and you'd be set. This has the correct capacity of 3,500 lb and bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inch.

  • Why Are There Different Brake Drums for 9,000 and 10,000 lb Axles After July 1, 2009?
The Dexter Trailer Hub/Drum Assembly # 8-430-5UC3 is a one piece assembly, hub and drum together. It fits Dexter 9k and 10k general duty axles made after 07/01/2009. Hub # 8-288-3UC1 is a 2 piece for 9K axle (after 10/89) and 10K axle (through 7/1/09). It does not come with the drum or mounting bolts. Dexter changed their spindle diameters on these two capacity (9,000 and 10,000 lb) axles. The biggest difference was in the inner diameter of the seal needed.

  • Can a 1-Piece 9K/10K Dexter Hub and Drum be Replaced with a 2-Piece 9K/10K Hub and Drum
I spoke directly with my technical contact over at Dexter. Basically you cannot replace an 8-430 hub with an 8-288 hub due to differences in the spindles that each of those hubs fit. If your axle was made after July of 2009 then you will need to use # 8-430-5UC3. If it was made before July of 2009 you would instead use # 8-288-3UC1 with drum # 9-44-1 for non-ABS systems or # 9-44-3 for ABS systems.
