Use this actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic disc brakes and 3x3 or 3x4 straight tongue.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Electric reverse lockout lets you back up without actuating trailer brakes
    • Solenoid activates automatically when you shift into reverse
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Primed finish
  • Weld-on installation
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic disc brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Overall length: 19"
  • Mounting: 3" x 3" or 3" x 4" straight tongue
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Great service getting the rite parts

Perfect replacement for the same item that wore our after 12 years of use. Simple install. Remove the old actuator - unhook the brake line (which I was afraid would leak, but doesn't,) unhook the blue wire from the solenoid, pull the two pins, and pull it out. Reverse the process to install the new one.
Only question was, where does the white wire on the new unit go? Old unit did not have a white wire. Answer is that it's a ground, so just find a ground and hook it up.
Of course, you must now bleed the air out of the lines, but anyone who is tackling this job themselves has probably bled brakes before.
PS. I bought this unit, which comes with the primed steel outside piece, because it was cheaper than buying the internal unit by itself.

Bought this for my 1995 Mastercraft Boat trailer. Works great, wasn't worth rebuilding the 30 year old unit. The solenoid to disable the brakes when backing up is awesome!

by:

It was exactly what I needed for my MASTERCRAFT boat trailer. I pulled the old one out and slid the new one in. Very easy to do

by:

Just what I wanted. I am building a custom trailer for my vintage boat. I have used these actuators in past projects. etrailer has great pricing and fast delivery every time.

  • Solution for Brake Actuator on 3-1/2" Trailer Tongue
For a brake actuator that will fit your 3-1/2" tongue you will need a weld-on model. None of the bolt-on will fit a 3-1/2" tongue as you said. I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL # DX43FR if you have disc brakes or the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 # DX53FR for drum brakes. These are technically listed for a 3" wide tongue as well but that won't matter with welding. Make sure to take them to a certified welder for installation. You will also need to add the # T4748800 if you're getting the drum brake...

  • Option For Replacing Or Repairing UFP Calipers
Hello Glenn. I do have a solultion for you, but UFP is no longer in business, so there is no way to source a repair kit or a replacement caliper. Since other brands calipers will not directly replace the UFP, your best option will be to do with a whole new disc brake kit. Assuming your axles are 3,500 lb rated you can use the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 10" Hub/Rotor part # K2HR35D which will come with new hub/rotors, calipers and brake pads. As far as the master cylinder, it can certainly...

  • Difference Between Dexter DX7.5L A-60 & A-60XL Disc Brake Actuator
Good question, and there is just one difference between the Dexter disc brake actuators you asked about, which is the overall length: - 17-1/2" Overall length: Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX63FR - 19" Overall length: Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Brake Actuator # DX43FR Apart from that, these are the exact same disc brake actuator, with both having an electric lockout, coupling to a 2" hitch ball, and 7,500 lb weight capacity.

  • Can The Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX43FR Be Bolted On?
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX43FR is designed to be welded on as the outer member is only primed. Once welded you can paint the outer member and the tongue. We do have similar units like the # DX56FR which are predrilled and zinc coated for superior corrosion resistance. This is a much better option if you are able to bolt the coupler to your existing 3" wide trailer tongue.

  • What is Difference Between Dexter DX7.5L DX69FR and DX43FR
Hey Stephen, this is a great question but I don't have a great answer. Both of our part numbers # DX69FR and # DX43FR represent the same exact Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Surge Brake Actuator. I am not sure why we have two part numbers for the same thing at this time.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Coupler For a EZ Loader Boat Trailer With Disc Brakes and Obsolete A-50 Coup
Thank you for the pictures of your coupler. You are going to need to replace your entire surge actuator coupler as the A-50 is obsolete and we do not have any parts to repair it. We have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX73FR which you can have welded in place of your current actuator. Or we do have the Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX43FR which would be a better option since it will prevent the brakes from being activated when you drive in reverse. This...

  • Coupler Replacement for Boat Trailer with A50 Disc Brake Coupler
Hey Keith, yeah the A50 coupler isn't made anymore so you would need to go with an all new setup like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL part # DX43FR which can be welded in place of what you have now.

  • Recommended Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Drum Brakes
You can not, jonathon. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60XL Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout # DX43FR is designed to be used only with hydraulic disc brakes, so for drum brakes you'd need to use the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00. This actuator has the same 7.5K weight capacity, will work with 2" hitch balls, and is made in the USA.

  • Looking For Surge Brake Actuator For Drum Brakes With Electric Lockout
Hello Darin, thanks for reaching out. I do have a solution for you. What I recommend is the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator # 099-175-00. This is made for trailers with drum brakes, and it attaches to a 2" ball. It does not come with an electric lockout, but you can add one using the Lockout Solenoid # T4748800. That will add the electric lockout feature to your actuator.
