Use this corrosion-resistant actuator to synchronize your trailer brakes with your tow-vehicle brakes. Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on 2" hitch ball. Designed for hydraulic drum brake applications.

Features:

  • Hydraulic actuator activates trailer's brakes when tow vehicle slows or stops
  • Low-profile coupler latch ensures easy, secure connection
    • Over-center latch mechanism only engages when the actuator is fully seated on hitch ball
  • Aluminum master cylinder is better at reducing corrosion than cast steel master cylinders
  • Zinc plating offers excellent corrosion resistance
  • Bolt-on installation
  • Manual lockout kit and fill cap are included
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: hydraulic drum brakes
  • Ball size: 2"
  • Fits 3" wide trailer tongues
    • Mounting holes positioned 3/4" down
  • Capacity: 7,500 lbs
  • 2-Year limited warranty

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Worked perfect rebuilding a 1990 boat trailer with drum brakes. The updated coupler is so much easier to use. Bolted on and brake lines conntected with no modifications.

by:

Perfect fit. I had to notch one corner where my wiring came out of the box tubing. Really nice compared to the original that was on there

by:

It’s a great looking product. I will need to find the fitting to connect the electric lockout solenoid…

We are a trailer repair company. We purchase the actuators for our customers. But we have had a lot of experience dealing with Dexter/UFP products. We try to only buy the best products available for our customers. That is why we buy Dexter/UFP products on a regular basis.

This is a very well made Brake Actuator, with high quality and heavy duty materials. Flat top design suits my requirements of opening the tail gate without worrying about damaging the tailgate and for fixing the sticker for Ford Pro-Trailer Back up Assist. Overall, I am pretty happy with the product, pricing and prompt shipping.

However, I have two observations to make:
1. Manual lockout plate could have been tethered to receiver. Even better, fitted with a magnet so that plate does not fall off, when you are moving the trailer back and forth. There are after market products available with magnet. I improvised on my own with a piece of strong magnet from old hard drive.
2. I bought Dexter A-60 bolt-on top mount for two different trailers. I observed that in both cases, the mounting holes in the receiver does not exactly line up with holes in trailer tongue- off by about 1/16th of an inch. Looks like the inner unit welding to outer case could be the cause.

So I would rate the product as 4.5/5.

  • Replacement Trailer Actuator for UFP A-70
To replace your old UFP A-70 actuator I recommend using the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7,500 lbs # DX33FR. This is going to be a direct replacement and will work with your drum brakes.

  • Recommended Replacement for a UFP A-70 Actuator
Steve, to replace your old UFP A-70 actuator I recommend going with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR. This is going to be a direct replacement, is made in the USA, and will work drum brakes.

  • Recommended Replacement For A UFP Model A-70 Brake Actuator
Hi Charles, While we don't currently offer the inner member that you're needing for the UFP A-70 we do offer a compatible replacement with the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR. This is the entire actuator assembly along with the mounting sleeve. If you have an electric lockout out to back up without having to manually lockout the actuator then I recommend picking up the Solenoid Valve # T4748800 as well.

  • Replacement Inner Member Slide for LP7000 Actuator for Drum Brakes
Hey Dale! From what we have found, the pins on the replacement inner members like # DX97FR won't line up correctly on the old TDE LP7000. Since they're no longer around, a complete replacement is the best option. I recommend using the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator with Fill Cap # DX33FR. What kind of trailer do you have?

  • Can Brake Actuator for Trailer Drum Brakes be Used with Disc Brakes
Hey Thomas, the reason you can't use the Dexter DX7.5L with disc brakes is because drum and disc brakes require different pressure ratings. Disc can be as high as 1,600 psi whereas drum is more like 1,000. So the part # DX33FR is drum brake only but the disc brake compatible equivalent is the part # DX89FR which is the correct rating.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Coupler Recommendation for a UFP A70
Hey Jim, The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator with Fill Cap # DX33FR will work as a replacement for your UFP A70 actuator if you have drum brakes. For disc brakes you're looking at part # DX89FR instead. The titles say "A-60" but these will work for both A-60 and A-70 actuators. Previously the A-"number" was for the weight capacity of the coupler; an A-60 was rated for 6K and an A-70 was rated for 7K. In the recent past Dexter consolidated everything to be rated for 7.5K so all of the...

  • Replacement Hydraulic Brake Actuator for Homemade Trailer With Short Tongue
I'm assuming you have hydraulic drum brakes and actually need the brake actuator. If that is the case, you're looking at either extending the tongue so you can bolt on an actuator like the # DX33FR or welding one on like the # DEX94FR. Both have a 7,500 lb capacity and are compatible with drum brakes. If it were me, I would stick with the bolt on option and get a local trailer shop to extend the tongue a bit. This would also make for an easier swap in the future should you need to replace...

  • Replacement Inner Member for UFP A-60 Drum Brake Actuator
Thanks so much for the photo, which shows you have a UFP A-60 actuator, which is the same as the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Drum # DX33FR. I can confirm that the correct replacement inner member for both actuators is the Replacement Inner Member # DX97FR.

  • Replacement For TDE LP7000 Surge Brake Actuator
There isn't a rebuild kit, but you can definitely replace your TDE LP7000 brake actuator with one of the following, depending on if you have disc or drum brakes: - Drum Brakes: Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR - Disc Brakes: Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX89FR These are both 7,500 lb actuators that accept a 2" hitch ball and bolt onto a 3" wide trailer tongue.

  • Replacement Brake Actuating Coupler for Atwood 85778
The Atwood 85778 actuator has been discontinued so I recommend the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7,500 lbs # DX33FR. If you need a higher capacity, then you will need to use a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball. I've linked the page to other options if needed.

  • Replacement Brake Actuator for EZ Loader Trailer with A-70 Drum Brake Actuator
A replacement coupler option that is very similar to the existing coupler on your EZ Loader Trailer is the Dexter DX7.5L A-60, Drum, 2 Inch Ball Brake Actuator # DX33FR. Dexter acquired UFP, so actuator is essentially an updated version of your existing actuator. This actuator has a capacity of 7,500 lbs, like your existing coupler. • Correct Replacement for UFP A-60 or A-75 Brake Actuator
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator part # DX89FR for disc or part # DX33FR for drum will work to replace both a UFP A-60 or A-75 Brake Actuator so there will be no worried here. The A-60 is rated for 6K and the A-75 is rated for 7.5K. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator is rated for 7.5K which is why there will be no issues.

  • Can Dexter Drum Actuator have Electric Reverse Lock Out Added It
Dexter doesn't put reverse lock outs on their drum brake actuators so you'd need to add the part # DM5404 do a new actuator. The part # DX97FR is just the inner section of an actuator though. For the actuator you'd need the part # DX33FR.

  • What Alternate Brake Actuator Can I Substitute for My Dico Aero 6000 Brake Actuator?
I have a solution for you that will work as a replacement. Unfortunately, we do not carry the correct replacement shock T4502000 for your Dico Aero 6000 actuator because it has been discontinued from production. I went ahead and reached out to Dexter axle (the makers of the Dico Aero 6000), and they said that, sadly, the only thing to do would be to replace the actuator itself. I know that this can be frustrating to hear, but the good news is that we do have some great options. For a replacement...

  • Replacement Solution for UFP A-60 Breakaway Key and Cable
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator part # DX89FR for disc or part # DX33FR for drum will work to replace both a UFP A-60 or A-75 Brake Actuator since we don't carry the UFP replacement breakaway setup. The A-60 is rated for 6K and the A-75 is rated for 7.5K. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator is rated for 7.5K. Now if you needed just the key we can help with that with part # DX94FR and then for just a cable part # FA80-01-2160.

Assuming you have a 3" wide tongue, you can use the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator - Bolt On - Drum - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7,500 lbs # DX33FR. This does not have a lockout but you can use the Replacement Consumer Lockout Key for Dexter Axle Brake Actuators - Qty 1 # DX94FR for manual lockout. • Does the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator Have a Lockout
The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator part # DX33FR comes with a manual lockout key for reversing. That said, if you would like for this to be done automatically you can simply add an electric lockout, the Solenoid Valve part # T4748800. That said, you'll also need a 5-way on the trailer and vehicle for this so if you don't already have one I recommend the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Kit part # HM47890. The Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator is made in the USA.

The actuator is a little different simply because there are multiple styles for installing the actuator on your trailer coupler so you'll want to look through these options to see which A-60 best matches your current A-60 actuator: - Top Mount 3-Bolt # 099-175-00 - Top Mount 3-Bolt # DX33FR ...

  • Can Reverse Lockout Be Added to Atwood Surge Brake Actuator
I do have an option for you though we don't have any reverse lockout kits for Atwood surge brake actuators as they are no longer in business. Therefore, your best option would be to remove and replace the actuator with an option like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator part # DX89FR for disc or part # DX33FR for drum which both have lockouts. Please note, you will need to have the old coupler cut off since it's welded.
