Question:
We wish to replace our UFP Model A-70 actuator on our EZ Loader trailer, with hydraulic surge drum brakes. Trailer VIN: 1ZEADMPHX7A124581, Trailer Model: 7-TEZR 17-20/22 4000 13 3500, Manufacture Date: Nov 2006. The symptom is the actuator does not release the brakes even after manually releasing the brake. The brake lines from the actuator to the brakes are clear. The UFP troubleshooting manual lists: 1. fluid return hole in master cylinder clogged or mispositioned, 2. Corrosion in master cylinder freezing up piston, 3. Other malfunction/damage keeping the master cylinder piston from retracting. Is a direct replacement available? or another replacement option? Thank you

A replacement coupler option that is very similar to the existing coupler on your EZ Loader Trailer is the Dexter DX7.5L A-60, Drum, 2 Inch Ball Brake Actuator # DX33FR. Dexter acquired UFP, so actuator is essentially an updated version of your existing actuator. This actuator has a capacity of 7,500 lbs, like your existing coupler.
The main difference is the style of ball latch. the # DX33FR features a low-profile, over-center latch mechanism that will only engage will the actuator is fully seated on the hitch ball.
This actuator is designed to mount above the trailer frame with the mounting bolt holes positioned 3/4 inch down from the top of the trailer tongue.
If you are more interested in a leverlock coupler that operates like your existing actuator, the Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuator, Drum Brakes, 2 Inch Ball # DM72VR is also a great option. This actuator is rated for 7,000 lbs.
