Features to know about

Struggling to Get Up Icy or Snow-Packed Roads: Square Links Bite In for Confident Grip

When the road turns slick and steep, these Konig chains dig in. The square-link design cuts through packed snow and ice for solid traction, keeping you in control when it matters most. The diamond pattern keeps consistent contact with the surface, so the ride feels smoother than with ladder-style chains—no bouncing or lurching, just steady pull on the climb or descent.

Wasting Time in the Cold: Self-Tensioning System Does the Work for You

No need to stop and tighten after you start driving—these chains handle that automatically. Once you hook them together and roll forward, they self-center and self-tension for a snug fit around your tires. That means less time on the roadside in freezing conditions and no need for extra tensioners or rubber adjusters.

Step 1 of tire chain installation showing chains laid flat on the ground to remove twists or kinks before installation.

Step 2 of tire chain installation showing connection of blue cable ends behind the tire.

Step 3 of tire chain installation showing red hook connecting to red link on the front of the tire.

Step 4 of tire chain installation showing tensioning chain being fed through clip and connected to red hook at the bottom of the tire.

Step 5 of tire chain installation showing hook stretched across the tire with chains fully installed and ready for self-tensioning.

Worried About Wheel Damage or Rust: Protective and Corrosion-Resistant Build

Each set includes nylon bumpers that keep the chains from scratching your rims and plastic-coated hooks that won’t freeze your fingers. The side chain’s powder-coated finish and manganese nickel alloy steel links resist corrosion and wear, so you can count on them to last through many winters without rusting or seizing up.

Driving a Vehicle With Tight Wheel-Well Clearance: Class S Design Fits Where Others Don’t

Some vehicles have very little space between the tire and the body, but these chains are SAE Class S compatible. They need only 1/2" of internal clearance, making them a solid option for vehicles where bulkier chains won’t fit. Despite their compact design, they still deliver full traction performance in snow and on light ice.

Need Reliable Gear That Packs Away Neatly: Lightweight and Easy to Store

When you’re done, the pair of chains fits into the included durable nylon storage bag. They’re light and compact enough to live in the back of your vehicle all winter, ready for whenever the weather turns. With a 5-year warranty and a fit range for 15" to 20" tires, these Konig chains are built for years of dependable use in cold-weather driving.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

by:

I purchased these for my 2016 BMW X5 (255/50/19). The chains fit snugly.

It is relatively easy to install but of course it's not like to put on shoes. To properly install them, you have to untangle and align following the instructions, which is the same for all types of snow chains. If anyone finds it hard to install, it is not due to the chains, but due to the person.

I have not yet used this in the snow but these look very sturdy and the patterns seem effective, hence I have no worries now.

by:

etrailer is fantastic, always has what I need and my shipment is always on time.
These snow chains are as described and hopefully in December will work as well as the reviews.

by:

Fit 100% perfectly on 245/50-20 (2022 Subaru Ascent Touring) although not listed as a "confirmed" fit for this particular model of chains. Other Konig size 255 tire chains list 245/50-20. Looking forward to trying them in the snow.

by:

What a breeze putting this chain on the tire (in the garage). Fortunately, I did not have to use the chains in snow but I knew the process of using them would be a breeze. The self tightening feature and the ratchet are very nice. The on-line video made the decision easy for purchase. The price point is higher than I budgeted however I spent the money knowing "quality" is a high priority and you get what you pay for!

by:

We are extremely pleased with this product. Last night we used them for the first time… in a severe ice storm/ snow situation… the chains were awesome!

by:

These tire chains have been wonderful. They are easy to put on and even easier to take off. I use them on a very icy steep gravel driveway (more than a half mile in length). They provide excellent traction and break up the ice so I can use my other vehicles on the driveway. I like these so much that I purchased them for two other vehicles.

by:

etrailer shipping was fast (as usual). The chains come in a nice round case to house them when not in use. Instructions are straight forward and so tried them on my van immediately. They work fantastic. Have not had the chance to drive in snow/ice yet but seeing how much engineering has gone into the design/manufacturing of these is impressive. I'm so glad decided to spend a bit more money to get these vs some cheap rattle-prone product.

by:

I'm an etrailer fan. Buttt...I took me over an our to get this item installed. Turned out the chains were twisted in a way that took myself and my wife half an hour to fix. The pictoral instructions were not good enough. A thorough description in English would really have been helpful.

by:

These chains were GREAT! I only needed them to get up the last 50 feet of any icy hill, but they did the trick. The installation instructions that came with them were worthless, but I found a couple of [online] videos that were very helpful. I highly recommend that you install them in your garage before you need them. I did and that made on the road installation much less stressful.

by:

Been using it on my high-top NV2500 to get down a super icy hill from my land. It grips the ice and makes it a non-white-knuckle ride. Impressed. I don't enjoy putting them on the tires but this is the only pair of chains I've owned and I suspect they are all a bit of a pain to install. It's not terrible, just annoying. Either way, once they're on, they work very well.

by:

Very easy to install great product

by:

GREAT company. They follow up after your purchase and 1 year just to make sure your satisfied. That’s a customer service level you do not experience these days in a brick and mortar business anymore much less the internet.

As for the snow chains, there’re great. I could’ve bought a cheaper version but I was concerned about my rims and these did not scratch as promised, and very easy to put on.

by:

great website, products and service. Have bought a few things here, everything was great. The tires chains arrived fast and look like a heavy duty product. not sure how often i will need, them or how soon I will use them. For a Sprinter the chains only go on the rear wheels. they won't work on the front due to the location of the struts.

by:

I have not used them yet. I have great Hakka snow tires and Go-Treads traction boards. No need for chains yet. Maybe next year, but hopefully beyond that.

by:

I have used these chains for one snow season so far and they are holding up really well. I love how quickly they can be put on and taken off once you have practiced a couple of times. They seem very secure and I am confident they will not come undone or damage my wheels. I bought 2 sets (for all 4 tires) and I really like how light and compact they are to store in my SUV when not being used. They provide excellent traction on ice and snow.

by:

Thank you for your quick response on the recommended part # for the tire size on my 2019 Toyota Highlander equipped with 245/55R19. The purchase was effortless and shipped/arrived when promised. I dry fit the chains on the vehicle in our garage and they installed as described. Although available, I didn't see any chain-to-wheel contact points that required the plastic protectors. So far, very pleased working with Etrailer.com and hope the Konig tire chains will perform equally as well when needed.

by:

I found these tire chains easy to use and that they work as advertised. I use on a 2020 Toyota Tacoma. While the 4 wheel drive is great on the Tacoma, I have a camp that is 5 miles down a dirt road which is plowed in the winter, but not treated. The chains work great for the icy and steep stretches, giving just a bit more traction.

by:

I hesitate a bit to leave this review, because it's based on very limited experience. I recently moved into the Smoky Mountain foothills, don't have a 4X4, and last winter a couple times was stuck not being able to make it up my steep, narrow driveway after a snow. So, I purchased these tire chains. I did a couple dry-run installs/removals and was very pleased with the ease of installation, the self-adjusters worked great, etc. However, I've never actually had to drive in the snow with the chains installed, so, as I said, my rating is based on limited product experience, so anyone reading this, please take that into consideration.

by:

I just try the chain on its easy to hook on and I can't wait to to try it on the first big snow storm so far so good compare to other chains I saw will let u know how it performs on the snow soon.

by:

Simply the best

by:

The product is super easy to assemble once you understand how to align it with the tire. I strongly suggest you do it on the driveway so you can get the feel of it.
We were up on a mountain cabin last year when it snowed about 8 inches. These chains allowed me to come down the mountain with confidence.

This is an excellent product. It is easy to place on the tire and it is Delfin adjusting

by:

Perfect fit, less than 3 minutes per side to install on my first test to install on flat ground and fair weather. $ minutes each in bad weather, Always test the fit prior to actually needing to use the emergency chains. I just used them in Montana during a storm with heavy snow and ice covered roads. My rear wheel drive Sprinter van had no issues maintaining very good traction. Note : I was also pulling my snowmobile trailer that weighed about 2700 lbs. Going up into the mountains in gear 4 at 20 MPH More important was low gear back down the grade. They are not intended to use over 25MPH

I used this product on 6 trips because of very poor conditions of ice and snow. The chains are holding up quite well. I am over 60 years old and have no issue installing by my self because I have used them several times. It does take about 6 minutes to install on the road. I never use them with out hard pack snow. I am heading back to Montana soon and will be ready with my trusty chain kit. Also thank you for suggesting this product and getting me the CORRECT size to fit my tires.

by:

Competitive price. Easy to install. Works great on my 2021 Toyota Highlander Platinum with 235/55R20 tires.

by:

Very impressed! On a cement floor you can have the chains installed and snugged in under 10 minutes. Also an excellent increase in traction for a RWD van. Definitely recommend the konig XG-12's. Haven't installed while travelling but I don't think it will be very difficult.

We had a demo day a while back and I remember this brand being one of my favorites for the reasons you just said! Ease of use is key. Thanks for sending in the photos too! If you wind up using them - let us know how it goes!

These are really easy to put on and take off. I have used them three times on my 2019 chevy colorado (4wd) to deal with high elevation mountain snow. After each use, I washed them, hung to dry and then put back in the truck. They are so awesome, I recommend them to others.

For your application I actually recommend going with the Konig Tire Chains # TH2004705255 instead for a few reasons; they have better...
