Question:
Thinking about getting a pop up slide in camper for a half ton pickup It is rated for about 1600 lbs. ..that is about what the Palomino camper weighs. Would some of your suspension help kits make this a safe and practical endeavor. ??

Hi Don; the best suspension enhancement for your 2008 Silverado 1500 with that Palomino camper is going to be the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2430. These have a load-leveling capacity of 5,000 lbs and are fully adjustable. The air bags will improve your steering, keep you level, and absorb road shock. Keep in mind, suspension enhancement will not increase the capacity of your truck. If the weight of your camper exceeds the capacity of the truck I recommend getting a different camper.
Since you will be pushing the limits of the truck I also recommend adding an anti-sway bar. The Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar - 1-1/4" Diameter # RM-1109-167 will add additional stability and reduce side-to-side movement. Sway is going to be one of your biggest enemies with that camper in the truck bed so it is well worth the investment. This combined with the air bags will give you a really solid setup.
If you want to be able to adjust the air bags no matter where you go you will also need an air compressor like the # AL25980EZ. This will allow you to adjust the pressure from the cab of your truck via the app or remote. It is a single path system so both air bags will hold the same pressure. If you want to be able to adjust them individually you need a dual path system like # AL58WQ.

Hey Don, how did the Firestone air bags and the Roadmaster anti-sway bar work out with your Silverado and Palomino camper? Did they give you the stability and control you were hoping for on the road? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar truck-and-camper combo.
