These 53" long Thule SquareBar Evo crossbars are built from galvanized steel for serious strength and a 220-lb weight capacity. Whether it’s kayaks, camping gear, or a cargo box, the steel construction gives you solid support for long trips. The polymer coating adds grip for your load and helps guard against corrosion when you run into rain or salt spray.
If your vehicle doesn’t have factory side rails, this setup gets you covered. The complete system uses 4 Evo Clamp feet and a custom fit kit to mount securely on a naked roof. The design locks in tight without drilling or permanent changes, so you can set it up for a trip and remove it when you’re done without leaving marks behind.
Nothing is more frustrating than cargo that shifts while you drive. The polymer coating on the SquareBars gives extra traction so tie-down straps and clamp-on accessories stay put. It also helps prevent scratching or rusting, keeping your setup looking good season after season.

After having the rack on my car for about a year I can say the bars are still pretty noisy even with my modification. I know theyre square bars and by definition square bars are noisy but I frankly think Thules design of the feet that attach the bars to the roof is not particularly aerodynamic either and so the feet are contributing significantly to the wind noise, too. I bought square bars because I have some older roof attachments that were designed for square bars and I wanted to reuse them instead of having to buy all new ones for a different bar shape. The old attachments fit just fine on these bars so Ill save the money and live with the wind noise.

The crossbars are great. I’ve used it many times for my kayak using it with Thule kayak carrier. To eliminate the whistling sound I ed some insulation foam in each end of the bars. Now it’s totally quiet.

I can see that you got the 52 inch Thule square bars. The square bars are known to whistle compared to the aerodynamic cross bars. I recommend the Thule AirScreen XT part # TH22WV to divert the wind up and over the cross bars to eliminate some of the wind noise.

Most of the time whistling occurs because the rubber strip is not covering the whole channel. You can find installation tips here in the attached expert answer. There will be some wind noise as with all brands of roof racks. Wind fairings greatly reduce that by adding an aero-dynamic ramp allowing the wind to flow over the roof rack. The Thule Wingbar Evo crossbars that you purchased are actually designed to act as a fairing so one would not be needed. You could still get one if you wanted to try it out. This one would be the best match for you: item # Y05018.

Review of Entire set: After a year of using this, it still works very well. Easy to take on and off your car and make slight adjustments if needed. Only maintaining is really just cleaning it which is simple enough. No issues with lockingunlocking with the keys. It has definitely helped saved space for my tiny Honda Civic.
