Canvas awning swings out and around from the driver side to the rear of your vehicle, providing 118 sq ft of shade. Easy one-person setup with integrated drop-down poles. Bolts to your Rhino-Rack Pioneer platform or crossbars with top channels.

Note: This awning is only compatible with crossbars that extend past the roof rack's legs.
Perfect for tailgating, outdoor markets, and camping, the Rhino-Rack Batwing provides shade anywhere you take your vehicle. The awning mounts to your Rhino-Rack Pioneer platform or crossbars with top channels. It is supported by built-in telescoping poles that let a single person set it up and break it down in minutes. Made of ripstop, polyester canvas that is resistant to UV rays, water, and mold, the awning swings out 270 degrees from your driver's side to provide you with 118 sq ft of shade. With different awning extensions (sold separately), you can expand the shade coverage or even create an enclosure around your vehicle. The Batwing's 50+ UPF protection has earned it an official endorsement by Cancer Council Australia.
Using just one motion, the Batwing unfolds 270 degrees from your vehicle's roof to provide 118 sq ft of shade. Just unzip the storage bag, flip the integrated storage pouch containing pegs and guy ropes out of the way, and bring the awning from the side of your vehicle toward the rear. Then, use the integrated tension strap to secure the awning to the back of your roof rack.
The telescoping support poles are built into the awning, which means you don't have to attach each pole separately during setup. Simply unclasp each pole from the built-in clips on the awning and drop them into position. After this, tighten the poles to the necessary height. You can also adjust the poles to different heights to suit any type of terrain, so the awning is always steady and secure.
When not in use, the poles are held in place by rare earth Neodymium magnets. Just push them toward the frame and they'll automatically secure to the housing.
After all the poles are set up, anchor them to the ground using the included pegs. The feet have 2 holes built in to let you drive 2 pegs into the ground at opposing sides for enhanced stability.
To bring the Batwing to maximum tension, attach the hooked guy ropes to the frame and secure them to the ground with the pegs. Using the additional tie-down point in the mid-section of the awning will allow rainwater to easily drain off. As an added benefit, the guy ropes have a bright orange color to improve visibility at night.
Strong and lightweight, the awning's ripstop, polyester canvas is waterproof, mold resistant, and UV protected. The telescoping poles and awning frame are constructed of aluminum and finished with a black powder coat, so they won't rust or fade when exposed to the weather. When not in use, all the parts are stored inside the heavy-duty PVC storage cover.
The Batwing has earned an endorsement from Cancer Council Australia for its UV protection. It received a 50+ UPF rating during independent testing, meaning it will allow less than 2 percent of effective UV transmission.
The included mounting brackets attach to the channels on the awning's frame and mount to your Pioneer platform or crossbars with top channels. Simply slide the nuts into the channels and tighten them down.
The Batwing will install to Rhino-Rack Heavy-Duty crossbars with a hardware kit (RR33101 - sold separately). To mount it to square and round roof rack crossbars, you will need to purchase a mounting kit (sold separately).
The Batwing has optional extensions to provide more shade and improve your outdoor experience. All of these extensions easily install by zipping to the outer edges of the awning. And just like the Batwing, they use telescoping poles, guy ropes, and pegs to secure to the ground. They are made of durable, ripstop polycotton canvas which is waterproof, mold resistant, and UV protected.
The Batwing can be expanded with the 48 sq ft extension (RR31101 - sold separately). With this extension, you can increase your overhead coverage or make a windbreaker or sidewall.
Using the 78-3/4 sq ft tapered extension (RR31112 - sold separately), you can either increase your coverage or form a sidewall. When you integrate 3 more tapered extensions, you can create a full enclosure around your vehicle.
Additionally, a front edge insert (RR31124 - sold separately) can square off your Batwing for more coverage area.
In addition to attaching extensions to the awning, the frame itself can hold additional accessories. The awning frame is compatible with channel mount accessories, like the Rhino-Rack shovel holder (RR43103 - sold separately). These accessories attach to the frame using the same channels you use to mount the awning to your roof rack.

Bolts to your Rhino-Rack Pioneer platform or crossbars with top channels.I love the awning although was very upset when I found out that the manufacturer did not offer brackets that would mount it onto my van, a Chrysler Pacifica. Also I had an incident where a gust of wind caught the awning as I was taking it down. The hinges that were made of plastic snapped . So they needed to be replaced. That was easy enough to do but should be made of a better material.
Absolutely love this awning. Installation was an absolute riot doing it alone but I got it done. Deploying and closing the awning takes just a couple minutes alone too. A lot of folks complain about the plastic brackets -- but it's actually a genius design. If you get lazy and put the awning down without staking it -- a gust will blow it over and snap the brackets instead of bending the awning. They're super cheap and easy to replace; I just keep a spare set on me. 5/5 awning.
Installed this Batwing on my Intech Micro Toy Hauler - Only thing I had to do was buy some 2" bolts so that I could bolt her to the rack. Easy to install and super easy to set up. In a few years I can tell you how well it holds up. From the looks of it my guess would be that it will hold up pretty well.
In all very happy with the BatWing awning. I do wish it was heavier duty fabric! No issues during the first year of use. Would purchase again!
Overall Very Happy. It is mounted on driver side of 2001 Tacoma with bed topper. Some things I would have liked to know at time of purchase:
-It really is a large amount of space, when opened. (We got it so that we have a place to be other than the cab or the bed when its raining) Lots of space to work or relax, with great rain coverage
-I don't think I get a full 270 degrees with it (maybe 265 degrees), meaning when opened up, it doesn't quite come all the way around to the back corner of the tail gate and sit straight inline with the back of the truck. Instead it angles out slightly leaving a slight gap between the awning and back of the truck where rain can drip in.
-The plastic hinge pieces WILL break eventually. its not a big deal, you probably won't even notice till you go to put it away. mine came with a couple extras and changing them out is easy. In a year of heavy use, I had one break. I do think making these parts out of aluminum would be an improvement.
-It is very very fast and easy to use. takes about a 60 seconds to set up or put away, so we end up using it way more than we originally thought we would. the strings and stakes take longer but on a not-windy day, you really don't need them.
-You will need to get creative or just buy the zip on extension when the sun is at an angle. It is easy to lower one side or the other but then the ceiling is very low over your head
Does exactly what we want: lets us enjoy outdoors more and actually be outside when truck camping, despite the weather. Would buy again. Will be buying an extension or 2.
Super nice and easy to install. Needs better quality hinges and not plastic. I’ve already started modifying the hinges myself using 3/4” eye bolts.
Overall, this awning is great. I use it in the Southern California deserts and it is very easy to deploy, provides nice shade coverage and stows easily. If you install and remove regularly it will scratch your roof rack but this is minor. Make sure you include a hammer with your kit as using the pegs on each leg is a must.
Everything I expected and more. Well built, easy and intuitive setup/repack, and could install myself in about 15 minutes. Also, amazingly fast shipping.
Great product, customer service is the best!
It arrived really fast. I haven’t installed it yet,, but I’ll let you know.
