This is a VERY well made product. The bolts fit well and are well machined. Once I figured out what bolts that I needed for my roof rack, it was very easy to mount. If I want to take it off before I go to the car wash (recommended for a high end rack like this), it's easy. For a recumbent with a 49 inch wheelbase, this is pretty much the only option. My PT trainer told me about Kuat and told me that this is the one to use for a recumbent with a long wheelbase. He was right.
So far I am very disappointed in this bike rack. I have had the trailer hitch mount of this same rack for over 3 years. Unfortunately this one that mounts on the roof crossbars is extremely difficult to use. It is nearly impossible to get the enough mechanical advantage on the arms to fully tighten them against the tires. I was able to get one bike in tight with a lot of trial and error. My second bike I was unable to get in tightly enough that it didn't rattle while driving. I cannot recommend it as a rooftop carrier.
We've only used our new rack once so far but it worked out well. We used it on the rooftop just using the bar clamp option. My only concern was after just a 30 mile drive 2 of the 4 screws were quite loose in that short period. I kinda wish that they had used a wing nut so it would be easier to snug up after some use. It's not that convenient to have to get the little allen wrench out each time. Other than that all worked properly and it held up our bike well. Thanks
