Question:

I need help finding the right bike rack for an ebike weighing 45 lb with the battery removed and for our 2022 Silverado 2500 HD, and not a hitch rack since we will be towing a camper. So were considering adding crossbars over the bed for roof-type bike racks. Is it wise to consider using the stake pockets - do you have compatible rails? The Kuat Piston is rated for over 60 lb. What other bike racks do you suggest?

I would be happy to help you. There are a few ladder racks that use the stake pockets but for your application there's nothing with that style mounting method.

I recommend the Yakima BedRock HD Truck Bed Rack item # Y01160-59. These crossbars attach similar to a bed liner or camper shell. They use clamps to secure them to your Silverado's bedsides. The included locks will help to prevent theft.

The Kuat Piston item # KU32VR is a great option and would have more than enough capacity for your e-bike. The only concern I would have is if your e-bike has fenders that extend past the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock position.

For a frame mounted option I have the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack item # TH598004. It would avoid all contact with the fenders but your bike would need to lose another pound because it tops out at 44 lbs capacity. This is the highest capacity crossbar mounted bike rack we have.
