However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

Yakima 8002477 RoadTrip Bike Rack for RVs, MotorHomes, Travel Trailers

The Yakima RoadTrip is a heavy-duty bike rack that's been thoroughly tested for use with motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers, and flat-towed vehicles. This dependable RV rack features SuperCush anti-sway cradles with ratcheting ZipStrip straps for easy bike loading. A threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin lets you easily secure the rack in position.

RV Tested and RV Approved

Yakima 8002477 RoadTrip RV Tested Bike Rack

The distance between the rear axle and hitch on an RV can be up to 3 times longer than on a regular vehicle. This increased distance causes hitch-mounted RV bike racks to see a significant increase in movement and vibration. Add to this fact that most trailers and campers generally experience heavier loads and have less advanced suspension systems, and your bike rack can be in real danger of failing if not properly designed. To deal with these tough conditions Yakima developed the first RV testing and certification process for bike racks within the industry.

Using data from real-world testing and computer models during the design process, the RoadTrip was built to handle the added stresses of RV applications. This includes undergoing an emergency stop test, speed bump test, and road test on both an RV and trailer. There was also a shaker test and pull test performed at 1-1/2 times their normal testing standard. This means you can rest easy knowing that whether you're using it on a Motorhome, 5th wheel, travel trailer, or flat-towed vehicle the RoadTrip will be with you for the long haul.

Yakima 8002477 RoadTrip Reinforced RV Bike Rack

The bike rack's bottom elbow is strengthened by a solid steel, double weld reinforced bracket. This bracket is secured to the shank with 2 oversized bolts, which ensures minimal movement is transferred up the rack mast.

Yakima 8002477 RoadTrip Welded Dual Arms

The rack's dual arms are welded to the mast for added strength. This prevents vibrations from being transferred into the arms, which ensures your bikes stay safely secured over long journeys.

SuperCush Anti-Sway Cradles with Ratcheting ZipStrip Straps

Yakima 8002477 RoadTrip Bike Rack Ratcheting Straps

The RoadTrip has premium SuperCush cradles to carry and protect your bikes during transport. The anti-sway cradles limit bike movement to help prevent bike-to-bike contact. Premium TPE padding protects your bikes' frames from damage by abosrbing road shock and vibration.

Yakima 8002477 RoadTrip ZipStrip Straps

The cradles also include ratcheting ZipStrip straps that make loading and unloading your bikes a breeze. Simply insert the strap into the buckles on the cradle and push it down until it's snug around your bike frame. The ZipStrips can be removed quickly by pressing the release levers on the sides of each anti-sway cradle.

Easy Installation with Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin

Yakima 8002477 RoadTrip Threaded Hitch Pin

The RoadTrip installs with a threaded, anti-rattle hitch pin. Simply slide the shank in your RV's 2" hitch receiver, insert the threaded hitch pin, and tighten it down with the included tool. This not only secures the rack to your RV but also reduces noise and movement of the rack in your hitch.

Integrated Bottle Openers

RoadTrip Integrated Bottle Openers

The RoadTrip includes 2 built-in, machined-steel bottle openers in case your beverage of choice doesn't have a twist-off cap.

Video Transcript for Yakima RoadTrip 4 Bike Rack Review - 2006 Coachmen Chaparral Fifth Wheel

Today on our 2006 Coachmen Chapparal Fifth Wheel Trailer, we're going to be doing a test fit of the Yakima Roadtrip Hanging Style 4 bike rack for RVs. That's part number Y02477. It's specifically designed for RVs in that it has no moving parts, so it's going to be a lot more stable here at the rear of your RV. It secures our bikes in three locations. We've got two zip strips for our top tube and then one for our seat post tube. The one for our seat post tube is going to prevent sway in our bike when we're on the road as well as prevent bike to bike contact and bike to vehicle contact. Let's go ahead and take our bike off. We'll simply press in on the tab on each side of our zip strip and pull it out.

Then we can just guide our bike off. Now let's go ahead and replace those. This is a perfect time to show you how easy they are to use. Simply line them up and push them down into place. Now let's go ahead and grab some measurements. Overall, we've added about 39 inches to our Coachmen. For our space between, we've got about 9 inches and finally for our ground clearance, we're looking about 17 and a half inches. It secures into our Coachmen's hitch receiver with an included anti-rattle bolt and clip.

The nice thing about the anti-rattle bolt is it's going to help reduce a lot of play and rattle within our receiver and our bike rack can make a nice solid ride for our four bikes. That's going to complete our test fit of the Yakima Roadtrip Hanging Style 4 bike rack for RVs, part number Y02477 on our 2006 Coachmen Chapparal fifth wheel trailer. This is our test course. Let's start with the slolum. This shows side to side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then on to our alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage or driving in and out of a driveway..

Bike rack is well constructed and strong. Just what I need to attach to my tow-behind camper- don't want to lose bikes and rack on my way to somewhere. It is NOT light but this is a tradeoff...strong & secure or light & risky. 398951

Being new to the RV world I found the team at etrailer to be very helpful; my new Yakima 4 bike carrier arrived quickly, was easy to assemble and attach. etrailer makes helpful suggestions on products that work well with your purchase that you might not know you would need; for me it was a lock at the hitch and for the bikes. 514985

Installed on my 5th wheel camper. Assembly took about 10 minutes. I purchased the Yakima adapter bars for my bikes b/c none have the straight bar that makes for easy mounting of the bikes. I liked that the 4 bikes went on rather easily with some minor adjustments of the seats and extra baskets on the kids bikes. I recommend this bike rack and the purchase of the adapter bars for easy placement of the bikes. I recommend this for the rear of the camper. Very sturdy rack! Received my product on time. I originally ordered the newer Yakima rack but it was unavailable for several weeks. Sierra called me the next day to tell me the delay of the product I originally ordered and offered some other options. Glad she did this or I would have been upset when I didn't get the bike rack in time to go on a camping trip that we had planned. Thanks for reaching out to me and letting me know rather than me finding out later that I wouldn't get my order in time! 362426

Just received this from etrailer, assembly was easy and everything looks sturdy. One thing I would mention: The instructions indicate that your bike needs to rest parallel to the ground. Aside from road bikes, most other bikes do not have top tubes that are parallel to the ground. Apparently there is an attachment available to help with this issue. I am sure it costs extra. If you have mountain bikes or beach cruisers this may not be the rack for you. 465181

Youll likely get along fine without an adapter bar unless your bikes are carried at such an angle that ground clearance could be compromised or one of the bike tires is closer than 12 inches to the vehicles exhaust. If you do need an adapter bar, we offer a reasonably priced one as part # 64005

The Yakima bike rack works perfectly with my 5th wheel. It doesn’t work as intended for smaller bikes (kid bikes), so I had to get a little creative. Knowing that, I would still buy the product and I would definitely buy it from etrailer. 769493

It's not that we don't recommend Thule or Rhino-Rack bike racks for RV use. It's that many bike racks are not approved by the manufacturer to be used on an RV. Both are 4-bike racks that use Yakima's SuperCush anti-sway cradles and ZipStrip straps. Yakima has bike racks that are rated to be used at the rear of a trailer, but at the rear of a trailer or RV the ride quality is very rough when compared to the ride quality at the rear of a passenger vehicle.
