Video Transcript for Camco Olympian Wave Catalytic Safety Heater Manufacturer Review

Our Olympian heaters are designed and built to provide years of comfortable radiant heat and economical LP gas consumption. Not only are our heaters efficient but they are safe, as well. Because of the integrated double platinum catalytic heating system, no harmful amounts of waste gases are produced. Most heaters are equipped with low-quality materials, which obstruct oxygen flow. This can lead to gas being released without burning, resulting in serious health hazards. The Olympian catalytic heating element features a low-density, spongy texture which allows for perfect transport of the oxygen needed for combustion.

The catalytic heating element is evenly impregnated with platinum. These added safety features ensure proper elimination of the mix of dangerous gas emissions. Olympian heaters produce radiant heat as a result of the catalytic combustion process. Like the sun, Olympian heaters radiate heat directly to people, floors, walls and other objects without heating the air first, so warmth is felt immediately. Radiant heat is absorbed by objects and then emitted into the air and heat the surrounding area. Therefore, your Olympian heater should be oriented to direct its warming rays toward the space to be heated, much like a flood light is positioned to illuminate a desired area. If installing in the interior of your RV or boat's cabin, it is recommended to have a certified technician handle the installation.

This will ensure the installation meets local codes. Please read all directions and warnings in your instruction manual. Keep it in a safe place for future reference. When choosing a location to install, be sure that the heater is located out of traffic and away from furniture and draperies. To assure complete combustion, it is necessary for the room to have an adequate fresh air supply.

Turn heat control knob to Start Off position. Make sure gas supply is turned on and gas is available at the heater. Depress control knob firmly for 10 seconds. This will allow gas to flow into the gas lines, removing any air. You should hear gas flowing to the heater pad.

While continuing to hold the control knob in, press Piezo Sparker button 1 or more times until gas flame spreader is lit. The flame spreader should now be on. If not, repeat pressing Piezo Sparker button until flame spreader is lit. After initial ignition occurs, keep control knob depressed for 45- 60 seconds maximum. Release the control knob, push knob in slightly, and immediately turn it to high heat setting. The initial small blue flames should become extinguished and the catalytic combustion process is now taking place. If catalytic pad ignition fails to start up, wait 5 minutes and try again. Allow the heater to operate on high for 10 minutes to assure even heating of the catalyst pad. You may now set to Low or Medium. To turn the heater off, turn the control knob to the Off position. It is recommended that the heater be kept covered at all times when not in use. Custom made dust covers are available from the factory or your local dealer. .

Started with the Wave 3. Too small for my application. 18' inside length toy hauler. Ended up buying the larger Wave 6. Couldn't return the first one after hooking it up and trying it. Get a larger size than what Camco's application chart recommends. Pros: No battery drain. Works OK. Cons: Less heat than expected. No thermostat, so it's either "on" or "off". Set off the smoke detectors first 3-4 times of use. I mounted the Wave 6 to a TV articulated mount so I could point the heat where I needed it and stow it out of the way when not in use. I made my own custom cover out of vinyl to fit around the mount. 586394

Have not yet installed, nor used my new heater. I have however used these extensively in the past and have confidence this one will work as well. They are great for heating an rv. We had to remove a furnace from our older motor home as there were no parts for it and no newer furnace would fit so decided on the olympian Wave 3, it's going to fit perfect. 351475

Review from a similar Wave Heater in RV Heaters

Took some time before writing to evaluate product. Works as expected. Darn good back up for power outages and extra warmth. -17°F outside of tiny home 65+°F in with addition of small amount of grid electric. Likely would have kept up by its self. Condensation occurs so ventilation is essential for that as well as safe operation. 603638

  • Do Catalytic Heaters Like Camco CAM57331 Wave 3 Heater Put Out Condensation
Catalytic heaters like the # CAM57331 Wave 3 do indeed put out moisture as a byproduct of the heating process, it's unavoidable with that type of heater. After doing some research, I've found that the best bet to keeping a large part of the condensation at bay is having a window or two cracked and a fan to provide air circulation. That, combined with the hanging bags like the # 1000750 we offer looks like the best solution I can come across. If you do a Google search, you will find...

The Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater for Small RVs # CAM57331 that you referenced does require a window be cracked in the RV when being used so that the catalytic combustion has enough fresh air for completion. • Maximum Operational Altitude for the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater
My contact a Camco conformed with me that the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater, # CAM57331 will efficiently operate up to 8,000 to 9,000 feet. After reaching this height you will you will see that this heater will begin to not operate as well due to less O2 in the air.

  • Can Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater Be Used with Hardware Store Propane Tanks
Yes, if the propane tank and its regulator are rated for low-pressure operations (many gas appliances are) then it will work with the Camco propane heater # CAM57331. If you have a propane tank but no low pressure regulator you could use regulator # CAM57703.

  • Thermostatically Controlled RV Heater
The Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater for Small RVs part # CAM57331 does not come with a thermostat. I am not really sure how that would work on a propane heater as such but we do have an electric heater with a built-in thermostat, the Arcon Compact Ceramic Heater with Tip-Over Safety Switch part # AR64409. However, this would not produce nearly as much heat as the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater for Small RVs. Please note the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic...

  • How to Permanently Install the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Heater Part # CAM57331
If you will be permanently installing the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater part # CAM57331 then you would need to run a hose from the heater to the propane manifold. I cannot recommend you tap or splice into an existing line. The fitting on the end of the heater is a 3/8" male flare. You would then need a hose with a female 3/8" flare and then whatever is on your propane manifold. Since you will need to possibly alter or connect to the propane manifold on your trailer I highly...

  • Why Is There a Flame Flare Up While Starting the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater
The flame flare up that you described on the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater part # CAM57331 is caused by the flame spreader. The flame spreader then warms the thermocouple. Once the thermocouple is warm it will send gas to the pad which ignites and expels heat. There is no way to correct it as that is how the unit is designed to operate.

  • Can You Use An Adjustable Regulator with a Low Pressure Propane Heater?
You cannot use an adjustable regulator with the Camco Olympian Wave 3 # CAM57331 since this heater operates on a low pressure gas system and running high pressure gas through it would cause it to function improperly and potentially create a dangerous situation. Instead, you would want to use a hose and regulator like the # CAM57703 which has a 6ft long hose on a low pressure regulator to connect from your gas source. It should be noted that the Olympian Wave 3 has an adjustable heat...
