In regards to the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater for Small RVs part # CAM57331, it must be used in a ventilated area per the manufacturer to prevent the build-up of gasses. That said, its not possible to give specifics on this as there are simply too many factors. The vast majority of applications won't be air tight so although cracking a window is not a bad idea, it's not necessarily a requirement. This however will vary by use.
