Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Swagman XC-Extended bike rack ratcheting arms

The mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.

Wheel Hoops for Recumbent Bikes and Standard Bikes

Swagman XC-Extended XC wheel hoopsSwagman XC-Extended XTC wheel hoops

The XC-Extended bike rack comes with 2 sets of black XC wheel hoops, which are great for carrying standard bikes. It also comes with 2 sets of silver XTC wheel hoops to give you extra length for carrying recumbent bikes. The hoops adjust with a hand knob and slide along the arms of the rack to accommodate each bike's wheelbase. Just loosen the hand knob to swap out the XC wheel hoops with the XTC. They also include rubber straps to secure your wheels to the rack.

Swagman XC-Extended measurements with XC wheel hoops installed

The XC cradles measure 65" outside to outside and 37" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 3-1/2" wide bikes with wheelbases up to 52" wide.

Swagman XC-Extended measurements with XTC wheel hoops installed

The XTC wheel hoops measure 81" outside to outside and 51-1/2" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 2-1/2" wide and wheelbases up to 69". They also include straps that secure your bike's wheels to the rack.

Folding Mast and Bike Trays

You can fold the mast down for easy access to your hatch. Simply pull the pin at the base of the mast and fold it down in either direction. You can also fold the trays up against the mast for storage. Just pull the pins at the junctions where the trays meet the rack, fold the trays up, and reinsert the pins into the provided holes.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Removable Adapter Sleeve

Adapter Sleeve

The rack includes a threaded hitch pin and a clip that work with a built-in anti-wobble device in the shank to eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. You can replace the pin and clip with an anti-rattle lock (sold separately) to secure the bike carrier to your vehicle. It also has a removable aluminum sleeve that lets you convert the rack for use in 1-1/4" hitches.

Swagman XC-Extended Bike Rack for 2 Recumbent Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - S64650-EXT

Rack arrived a day earlier than promised. Very easy to assemble. I did not need the extensions, but glad I have them for the future. The sleeve that fits the 2" receiver is a little loose so whole rack is wobbly, but should be able to correct with some sort of shim. I mounted on front of truck (because I pull a travel trailer) so clearance between inside bike pedal and truck grill really close. I wrapped pedal in towel to (hopefully) to prevent damage to truck grill. Very easy to load bikes on and off. Ratcheting clamp hold the bikes down well. There is a hole for a lock on the ratcheting clamp. So far, very happy with my purchase.

This bike rack comes with a threaded hitch pin to help keep the rack from wobbling inside the hitch receiver, but if youre still seeing too much play, the Quiet Hitch # RM-061
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches
anti-rattle device is another great option to remove slack between the shank and receiver. You could also try securing the top of the bike rack to your tow loops with a ratchet strap like part # 317-402400

After a lot of researching I came to find this Swagman. It was about $100 less than the competitor and I called customer service and they were awesome. They explained what I need to measure on my brakes because I have a recumbent and a regular bike. It came with great instructions and it was easy to put together. It is well-built and easy to use. I always had a bike rack that hung and this is much better. I highly recommend it and once again the customer service was great.

Bought this rack to transport a SWB and A LWB recumbent. Ordered it after reading some reports on it. We were in the middle of a move from Georgia to Wisconsin and had to leave one of our vehicles in Atlanta. I found a SWB in Tennessee and needed to transport it to Wisconsin with our vehicle when I flew back to Atlanta to drive the our vehicle home. I had the carrier sent to my friends home in Atlanta. When I arrived from the airport I was able to install the primary support into the 2" receiver and bolt in place. The bolt tightened down the support so there was no play in the connection. I then took off for Wisconsin with a stop in Tennessee to test drive/purchase the bike and take it home. I had a lot riding on the performance this bike rack. If it didn't work I would forego the purchase of the bike I had found. Got to Tennessee and purchased the bike. Took the components out of the book and assembled them onto the primary support member. Adjustment of the tire holders to fit the wheel base was easy and fast, actually did it in the dark with a flash light. Really liked the removable pins with the ball detents in them. That made the entire process very simple and quick. We had the bike on the rack in less than 10 minutes. I transported the bike more than 900 miles with it on the rack. It performed perfectly at speeds above the posted limits. I have attached a photo showing it in our driveway at home. The only concern I have with the rack is the attachment of the rack to the primary support. This is not a tight compression fit and it wobbles a little. This causes the bike to behave a bit like a rocking horse when it is on the rack. This connection condition, while not critical needs to be a little tighter to make it a rock solid mount. I highly recommend this rack, it performs as promised and is a great value.

Still works just fine. Glad I purchased this.

Thank you again for such excellent customer service. I am including two pics from today showing the bikes mounted on my 2009 Honda Fit with the bike rack we purchased from you. Please feel free to use them in any of your publications, print or web.

Wonderful! We are now carrying TWO recumbents on it. Will get a pic next time I have a chance. - Just to be clear though, there is a weight limit on the rack so make sure you watch that as some recumbent bikes can be heavy. We have Bacchetta Corsas, which are light and fall within the specs of the rack to carry both.

Very nice rack for a recumbent long wheel base bike.easy to set up for my bike.easy to load the bike and take off.on a Jeep with a spare tire you can only haul one bike but I only haul one bike. Price was good and shipping was very fast. The best rack for the money that I could find.

It’s working great have had no problems with it, holding up very well.

I have a Cruzbike Silvio and due to their shape, it is difficult to find a carrier. I read about the Swagman XC - Extended platform and ordered it. I am not a handy person or mechanical, yet putting together this carrier was a breeze. The only negative thing was the photos found in the instructions were small and difficult to see so I took a photo with my phone and expanded the photo and that handled that issue. It took me a very short amount of time to put this together and attach it to my truck. Attaching the carrier to my truck is easy and it holds my Cruzbike very well. I typically take my bike to our local bike path. While out riding, I detach the carrier, fold it up, and place it in my truck for safety. I highly recommend this carrier, especially if you have a recumbent bicycle.

- S64650-EXT

5000 miles so far with rack on rear of 5th wheel.Rear camera shows the 2 bikes riding steady with no movement. Quick mounting and dismounting of bikes. Solid and well made. Highly reccommend.

- S64650-EXT

Swagman bike rack arrived yesterday. After removing all contents from the packages and laying them all on my garage floor I placed the universal foot into my Forester hitch receiver and proceeded to assemble the rack there, in-situ. So easy to put together and it took a little more than an hour. It is very well made, solid, does not wobble and looks great. I can't wait to get on the road with our bikes soon. I am confident that this rack will serve us well for many years to come.

- S64650-EXT

I am very happy with my recumbent bike rack. It is super easy to attach and I am enjoying many long hours on the trails now. Thanks so much.

I am still just as satisfied as I was when I got it. I love the ease of loading and unloading. I can do it in about 5 minutes and then off I go to the trail. Thanks again. Great product~

Excellent service! Less than 3 days for free delivery! Fairly easy to put together. Had no problems taking 1 lwb recumbent and 1 diamond frame bike 120 miles. Excellent quality for reasonable price.

- S64650-EXT

I bought this rack for my 50# plus electric bike - it handles the weight no problem. I also like the pin/bolt in the 2" receiver, it tightens to prevent any wobble or rattle.

- S64650-EXT

I purchased this hitch to haul bikes around. I purchased a similar hitch, from another company, a year ago at a much higher price. The etrailer is easily it's equal and less expensive. It is easy to assemble, though the written instructions need improvement. E.g., there are washers included for the bolts and other connections, but the instructions fail to tell you where to place them.

- S64650-EXT

I love this trailer. Only one problem is that the 2" adapter is a bit loose in the hitch. Planning to add a shim to correct that. I have a recumbent and the adjustment wheel brackets work perfect. I highly recommend it to other "bent" riders.

I have two long wheel base recumbents. Would they both fit on the Swagman S64650 EXT? Wheel base is about 70 Thanks, Dale
-- comment by: Dale - 08/21/2013

The maximum wheel base is 66 inches, so your recumbents may be a bit long. Hollywood Racks, part HR1000R, will accommodate up to a 74 inch wheel base and it is a similar design as the Swagman.

- S64650-EXT

This product is just as advertised! Light duty but sturdy enough to handle a 33lb., long wheelbase recumbent and 28lb. mountain bike. Assembly is a very straight forward DIY project! Many thanks to etrailer for excellent service!

- S64650-EXT

This bike rack is the only one that I could find that can be used for a recumbent or a regular bike. That's why I bought it. Actually, I have only used it one time since I did not need my bikes transported but once. The bikes survivied the trip, but there was more wobbling. Maybe I need to adjust my installation. It's quite similar to the way city buses hold the bikes.

Very pleased! I made an adjustment to reduce the wobbling. I adjusted the space between the tires of the bikes. I havent used the rack for my recumbant yet.

- S64650-EXT

Excellent bike rack that accommodates 2 wheel bikes and even LWB recumbent bikes.

- S64650-EXT

Carrier is a wonderful design. I purchased it to transport my LWB recumbent and my wife's mountain bike and it handles both perfectly. It is very easy to install and remove thanks to the fold-up feature. I received this hitch a couple business days after I ordered it. Really fast shippers and great people to do business with. I would recommend this rack from etrailer.com to anyone needing a hitch mount rack.

- S64650-EXT

Best bang for the buck you're going to find anywhere (5*). Fits my long wheelbase recumbent with additional kit (4*). Folds out of the way, very accommodating, I can fit my [email protected] on it with 4" tires (5*). Use the 3/4 hexed bolt for a sturdier connection (4*). If you're anal about your bikes finish, put a sock or sheepskin over the eva padded hook. It will scratch if you do not (3*).

- S64650-EXT

Just received our carrier. Easy to assemble and very solid when mounted on the car. We haven't used it yet but my bikes are very secure. This is exactly what I wanted. Great carrier .

- S64650-EXT

Product was delivered as ordered. It was about 1 1/2 weeks later than the original estimated delivery date. Little information was available during the delay, so I had to call twice to get an update on the delivery. Friendly operators, but doesn't change the actual versus expectation gap.

- S64650-EXT

Etrailer has been so very helpful. I have a woman's Giant Cypress bike that hangs very low on a rack - especially on a car. I sent pictures and measurments and etrailer examined the hitch and bike then made a recommendation for a Swagman platform bike rack. (The swing away's would not work) It was fairly easy to put together. We effortlessly put the two bikes on and it felt very secure with plenty of room above the ground. On the highway I watched it from the back window and felt confident that the bikes would not come loose. We traveled about 80 miles with no problems. The only complaint I have would be it was difficult to unhitch the bike hooks; the latch seemed to stick a bit. I was very pleased with our first voyage.

- S64650-EXT

Great bike rack for recumbent bikes with a long wheelbase. Had to add a few locks but the rack works great.

- S64650-EXT

Good Product. There is a bit of play between the hitch and rack. I think there should be a place to LOCK the rack to the hitch so that it cannot be stolen...instead I just pack up the rack and keep in locked in my car, while riding. The lock I did get, I will return because it was WAAY to long to keep the bike steady...too much play when driving. This hitch and rack work really well on my Honda fit when considering that i am putting a 2 wheel recumbent on it. I'll know better in the fall how well it works...I live in AZ. and it is now way to hot to ride. All in all, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to carry a bike on a small car. It is really well made.

- S64650-EXT

I bought the Swagman Extended platform rack because I have a very long recumbent bike. The bike fits onto the rack perfectly and very securely. The rack is solid and very well-made--there is nothing cheap about it. It is a quality product. When I had an installation problem, Jamie at etrailer was incredibly helpful--she even had a Swagman representative call and help me. Incredible customer service! Thanks Jamie & Ian.

- S64650-EXT

This is exactly what Received this very quickly and no parts were missing .We did have to watch a video on assembly due to the vague instructions but went together with no problems. Feels sturdy and bikes ride with very little movement.

  • Will a 13 Inch Wheel on a Recumbent Bike Fit the Wheel Hoops of the Swagman XC Extended Bike Rack
If you measure the diameter of your 13 tire and it is over 16 inches in diameter then the Swagman XC Extended bike rack, # S64650-EXT will work but if it is less than 16 inches the wheel loop would be too large to support the tire. This bike rack is going to be the best option for carrying a 2-wheeled recumbent bike. I have included a link to a video review for you.

  • Weight of Swagman XC-Extended Bike Rack and Compatibility with Crank Forward Bike
The Swagman XC-Extended Platform-Style 2 Recumbent Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # S64650-EXT weighs 38 lbs. This bike carrier will work well with your Rans Crank Forward bike's wheel base and design. To secure this rack to your vehicle and the bike to the rack, I also recommend the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable for Swagman Bike Racks- 7' # S64031.

  • Measuring a Bike's Wheelbase to Confirm Fit on the Swagman XC Bike Rack
I have a solution for you, however the Swagman XC, part # S64650 will not fit a bike with a 69 inch wheelbase. If the 69 inch measurement is from the front of the front tire to the back of the rear tire, then the wheelbase will be less and the XC will likely fit. Measure between where the tires actually touch the ground. If this is less than 51-1/2 inches the XC will fit your bike. If the base...

Yes, I have the Swagman XC-Extended Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier, part # S64650-EXT. This is a hitch bike rack that comes with two types of wheel hoops to fit different bike lengths. One set of wheel hoops will accommodate bikes with extra-long wheelbases, like your recumbent bike. The other set of wheel hoops can be used for bikes with the traditional wheelbase. This bike rack will fit both 1-1/4 inch and 2-inch hitch receivers. I am including a link to a video review on the Swagman bike...

  • Can Swagman XC-Extended Platform Rack Fit Bacchetta Giro 20 and Trek 7500 Hybrid Simultaneously
In my research, I have found that your Bacchetta Giro 20 has a wheelbase of 47 inches and your Trek 7500 Hybrid has a wheelbase between 42.2 and 43.4 inches. With this being taken into consideration, the Swagman XC-Extended Platform # S64650-EXT will work beautifully for your two bikes. Because the attachment arm lowers all the way down to the base of the bike rack, your Bacchetta will load closest to your vehicle. This rack comes with an adapter sleeve so you will be able to use...

  • Availability of 4 Bike Rack to Carry Lightning Recumbent and Road Bikes
The Swagman XC extended rack, # S64650-EXT, is a 2 bike rack that can accommodate bikes with wheelbases up to 68 inches. If your two wheeled recumbent falls within those parameters, it will fit on the rack. We do not have any 4 bike racks that can accommodate a recumbent bike. If you would care to respond with the year, make and model of your vehicle, I can suggest alternatives that would allow you to carry all 4 bikes using the hitch and some roof mounted racks. For installation...
