Features to know about

Built for Long Wheelbases: Carries Recumbents up to 69"

Recumbent riders finally get a hitch rack that actually fits. The Swagman XC-Extended handles wheelbases up to 69" using the included silver XTC wheel hoops, while the black XC hoops cover standard setups up to 52". Both adjust with hand knobs to match each bike’s exact length, and rubber straps keep the wheels snug. Two recumbents, two regular bikes, or one of each—it’s ready for either.

Secure Frame Hold: Independent Padded Ratcheting Hooks

Each bike locks in place with its own padded hook, gripping the frame without scuffs or scratches. The ratcheting arms move independently, so different bike shapes and tube styles load side-by-side with no fuss. Once set, the hooks stay tight for the drive, keeping everything stable even on bumpy routes.

Easy Access and Compact Storage: Folding Mast and Trays

When you need to reach your rear hatch or store the rack, pull a pin and fold the mast down or the trays up. Both actions take seconds and save space in the garage or driveway. The compact fold makes it easy to keep the rack mounted without it sticking out or getting in the way.

Steady Ride: Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Convertible Shank

A threaded hitch pin and clip tighten the rack to the receiver, cutting out sway and vibration while you’re on the road. The removable aluminum sleeve lets you swap between 1-1/4" and 2" hitches without extra parts. This all-steel rack weighs 38 lbs, has a 35-lb capacity per bike, and features a rust-resistant black powder coat for long-term durability.

Simple Strength for Everyday Use: 2-Bike Platform Design

Load up two bikes and go—no balancing acts or complicated clamps. The platform design makes it easy to roll bikes into the wheel hoops, secure the hooks, and hit the road. Whether it’s recumbent miles or casual rides, the XC-Extended’s solid steel frame and 3" shank rise keep everything stable from start to finish.

Carrier is a wonderful design. I purchased it to transport my LWB recumbent and my wife's mountain bike and it handles both perfectly. It is very easy to install and remove thanks to the fold-up feature. I received this hitch a couple business days after I ordered it. Really fast shippers and great people to do business with. I would recommend this rack from etrailer.com to anyone needing a hitch mount rack.

by:

5000 miles so far with rack on rear of 5th wheel.Rear camera shows the 2 bikes riding steady with no movement. Quick mounting and dismounting of bikes. Solid and well made. Highly reccommend.

by:

Just received our carrier. Easy to assemble and very solid when mounted on the car. We haven't used it yet but my bikes are very secure. This is exactly what I wanted. Great carrier .

Great bike rack. Adjusts to fit my oversize bike and wifes avg size bike at the same time. Very sturdy

by:

Good Product. There is a bit of play between the hitch and rack. I think there should be a place to LOCK the rack to the hitch so that it cannot be stolen...instead I just pack up the rack and keep in locked in my car, while riding. The lock I did get, I will return because it was WAAY to long
to keep the bike steady...too much play when driving.
This hitch and rack work really well on my Honda fit when considering that i am putting a 2 wheel recumbent on it. I'll know better in the fall how well it works...I live in AZ. and it is now way to hot to ride.
All in all, I would recommend this to anyone wanting to carry a bike on a small car. It is really well made.

First rate. EZ to assemble, install. Reliable carrier. Fairly light, but sturdy. Love it!

Etrailer has been so very helpful. I have a woman's Giant Cypress bike that hangs very low on a rack - especially on a car. I sent pictures and measurments and etrailer examined the hitch and bike then made a recommendation for a Swagman platform bike rack. (The swing away's would not work) It was fairly easy to put together. We effortlessly put the two bikes on and it felt very secure with plenty of room above the ground. On the highway I watched it from the back window and felt confident that the bikes would not come loose. We traveled about 80 miles with no problems. The only complaint I have would be it was difficult to unhitch the bike hooks; the latch seemed to stick a bit. I was very pleased with our first voyage.

by:

I received the bike rack and it was not hard to put it together. As I adjusted it to place my wheels on it they would not fit. The bars are not long enough for the bike. My recumbent is an EZ Sport EX .

You mentioned that the bars are not long enough for your bike. Can you tell me what the wheel base measurement - the center from one wheel to the next wheel - is on your bike? Is it the length of the bike rack bar that is too short or the hooks?

I received the other box today every thing is good. I didnt realize that there were two boxes. It works great.

This bike rack is the only one that I could find that can be used for a recumbent or a regular bike. That's why I bought it. Actually, I have only used it one time since I did not need my bikes transported but once. The bikes survivied the trip, but there was more wobbling. Maybe I need to adjust my installation. It's quite similar to the way city buses hold the bikes.

Very pleased! I made an adjustment to reduce the wobbling. I adjusted the space between the tires of the bikes. I havent used the rack for my recumbant yet.

by:

it was easy to put together. My 66" wheelbase recumbent fits! Good price.
I have been looking for a bike rack that fits for awhile. FOUND IT!

by:

I love this trailer. Only one problem is that the 2" adapter is a bit loose in the hitch. Planning to add a shim to correct that. I have a recumbent and the adjustment wheel brackets work perfect. I highly recommend it to other "bent" riders.

The maximum wheel base is 66 inches, so your recumbents may be a bit long. Hollywood Racks, part HR1000R, will accommodate up to a 74 inch wheel base and it is a similar design as the Swagman.

Very nice rack for a recumbent long wheel base bike.easy to set up for my bike.easy to load the bike and take off.on a Jeep with a spare tire you can only haul one bike but I only haul one bike. Price was good and shipping was very fast. The best rack for the money that I could find.

This product is just as advertised! Light duty but sturdy enough to handle a 33lb., long wheelbase recumbent and 28lb. mountain bike. Assembly is a very straight forward DIY project!

This is truly a nice product. It is light duty but easily handles 60lbs. After a year of use in all weather conditions there are no paint failure or corrosion issues. Great versatility!

This rack worked great with my recumbent bike (Rans Rocket) and my wife's road bike. I searched for weeks to find a rack that would work with both bikes and finally lucked out and found this one. The extended loops gave it just enough room for both bikes. And, the bikes are rock solid on the rack with just one quick lock of the sliding hook. Time from set up to driving off with the bikes is less than five minutes. This includes attaching the rack to the vehicle. Great bike rack. Very easy on the back too!

After a lot of researching I came to find this Swagman. It was about $100 less than the competitor and I called customer service and they were awesome. They explained what I need to measure on my brakes because I have a recumbent and a regular bike. It came with great instructions and it was easy to put together. It is well-built and easy to use. I always had a bike rack that hung and this is much better. I highly recommend it and once again the customer service was great.

Great!!!!!

by:

Well, I like the rack. It was sold as a low sway rack but it is not. The movement is mostly where the bar that comes out of the hitch receiver and hooks onto the main bar of the rack I think this connects with a pin so there’s a lot of movement here. My other problem is getting a replacement part. I lost the long hook /ratcheting handle that holds the bike on the rack. I’ve been trying to get a replacement from swagman and their website says that it is out of stock and has been so for several months. So my bike rack is now just a paperweight. I would have given it another star if I could get the replacement part.

by:

Excellent service! Less than 3 days for free delivery! Fairly easy to put together. Had no problems taking 1 lwb recumbent and 1 diamond frame bike 120 miles. Excellent quality for reasonable price.

by:

Overall the rack seems of good quality. Long recumbent loops are of higher quality than the standard loops. Hitch pin is too short for my truck's receiver. The threads on the pin are NOT standard (1/2-12), so finding a longer bolt would be a problem. They want you to buy the longer (expensive) locking hitch pin.

by:

We just wish the hitch bar was a little longer so I could mount the recumbent on the inside without the seat hitting the rear hatchback. This is our second Swagman and there are no real improvements over the last one except a long width to accommodate the longer bike.

by:

I just installed it. I haven't had the opportunity to use it to take my recumbent to the trail, but I am looking forward to it!

by:

Thank you again for such excellent customer service. I am including two pics from today showing the bikes mounted on my 2009 Honda Fit with the bike rack we purchased from you. Please feel free to use them in any of your publications, print or web.

Wonderful! We are now carrying TWO recumbents on it. Will get a pic next time I have a chance. - Just to be clear though, there is a weight limit on the rack so make sure you watch that as some recumbent bikes can be heavy. We have Bacchetta Corsas, which are light and fall within the specs of the rack to carry both.

by:

Rack arrived a day earlier than promised. Very easy to assemble. I did not need the extensions, but glad I have them for the future. The sleeve that fits the 2" receiver is a little loose so whole rack is wobbly, but should be able to correct with some sort of shim. I mounted on front of truck (because I pull a travel trailer) so clearance between inside bike pedal and truck grill really close. I wrapped pedal in towel to (hopefully) to prevent damage to truck grill. Very easy to load bikes on and off. Ratcheting clamp hold the bikes down well. There is a hole for a lock on the ratcheting clamp. So far, very happy with my purchase.

This bike rack comes with a threaded hitch pin to help keep the rack from wobbling inside the hitch receiver, but if youre still seeing too much play, the Quiet Hitch # RM-061 anti-rattle device is another great option to remove slack between the shank and receiver. You could also try securing the top of the bike rack to your tow loops with a ratchet strap like part # 317-402400.

Bought this rack to transport a SWB and A LWB recumbent. Ordered it after reading some reports on it. We were in the middle of a move from Georgia to Wisconsin and had to leave one of our vehicles in Atlanta. I found a SWB in Tennessee and needed to transport it to Wisconsin with our vehicle when I flew back to Atlanta to drive the our vehicle home.

I had the carrier sent to my friends home in Atlanta. When I arrived from the airport I was able to install the primary support into the 2" receiver and bolt in place. The bolt tightened down the support so there was no play in the connection. I then took off for Wisconsin with a stop in Tennessee to test drive/purchase the bike and take it home. I had a lot riding on the performance this bike rack. If it didn't work I would forego the purchase of the bike I had found.

Got to Tennessee and purchased the bike. Took the components out of the book and assembled them onto the primary support member. Adjustment of the tire holders to fit the wheel base was easy and fast, actually did it in the dark with a flash light. Really liked the removable pins with the ball detents in them. That made the entire process very simple and quick. We had the bike on the rack in less than 10 minutes.

I transported the bike more than 900 miles with it on the rack. It performed perfectly at speeds above the posted limits. I have attached a photo showing it in our driveway at home.

The only concern I have with the rack is the attachment of the rack to the primary support. This is not a tight compression fit and it wobbles a little. This causes the bike to behave a bit like a rocking horse when it is on the rack. This connection condition, while not critical needs to be a little tighter to make it a rock solid mount.

I highly recommend this rack, it performs as promised and is a great value.

Still works just fine. Glad I purchased this.

by:

Does the job. I purchased this bike rack for transporting a recumbent bike and is does fit the recumbent securely. The frame holder works well, however I still used a strap for additional security. Now some of the issues with this bike rack. 1) There is no loop anywhere to lock the bikes on the rack. 2) The hitch is made for a 2" reciever and instead of using a standard 5/8 hitch pin , the rack is supplied with a screw that you are suppose to screw through the receiver pin hole. The screw has a hole on one end to secure the screw with a pin. The problem is if you have a 2 1/2" receiver ( As most HD trucks) with a reducer the screw pin is not long enough to be secured by the pin. I had to drill a 5/8 hole to hollow out the screw hole and used a standard hitch pin. I know the screw is used to help reduce rattle, but a better design is needed or supply two screws of different lengths. This is not a Hollywood Bike rack, but it also does not cost what a Hollywood does and it does the job.

I used my Swagman recumbent bike rack for the first time today. It worked perfectly with my bike. It looks really wide from the back. But doesn’t stick out that much from the driver’s seat. I am very happy that I can left the bike off and on the rack. I am a bit concerned with the sway on certain roads. I am going to try bungee cords ti my hitch the next time I am out to see if it bobs around less.

Hello Jim, thanks for reaching out. We do have one bike rack that can be used with recumbent bikes like your Bacchetta Bella. Take a look at the Swagman XC-Extended Bike Rack for 2 Recumbent Bikes # S64650-EXT. This has an attachment that allows it to work with recumbent bikes with wheelbases up to 69". As long as the wheelbase doesn't exceed 69", and your bikes aren't more than 35 lbs each, this bike rack will work. It does look like some versions of the RANS Stratus LWB have a 71" wheelbase so I would double check that. • Can I Use Swagman Straddler To Tow Swagman XC S64650-EXT Bike Rack On Travel Trailer
Yes, you can use the Swagman Straddler part # S80503 to mount your Swagman XC-Extended Platform-Style 2 Recumbent Bike Rack part # S64650-EXT on the front of your travel trailer as long as you have the space and you do not exceed the Straddler weight capacity of 100 lbs. The weight of the Swagman XC-Extended Platform Style is 38 lbs itself and it's total weight capacity is 70 lbs so you could only use 62 lbs of that weight while using the straddler. The Straddler features an elevated hitch...

  • Measuring a Bike's Wheelbase to Confirm Fit on the Swagman XC Bike Rack
I have a solution for you, however the Swagman XC, part # S64650 will not fit a bike with a 69 inch wheelbase. Wheelbase is normally measured from the point where the front and rear wheel touch the ground. If the 69 inch measurement is from the front of the front tire to the back of the rear tire, then the wheelbase will be less and the XC will likely fit. Measure between where the tires actually touch the ground. If this is less than 51-1/2 inches the XC will fit your bike. If the base...

  • Modifying Bike Rack to Carry Recumbent Bike
It sounds like you are wanting to alter a Swagman XC # S64650 rack to accommodate a recumbent bike, is that correct? Swagman does offer a replacement fold down arm, but it would simply be a replacement for the original arm, and would not be long enough for your needs. Typically, a recumbent bike is also wider than a regular bike, so in many cases simply increasing the wheelbase capability of the rack (if possible) would not do the trick anyway. A rack specifically designed for recumbent...
