This hitch-mount rack is perfect for carrying 2 recumbent bikes. It includes 2 sets of wheel hoops so you can transport bikes with extra-long wheelbases and bikes with standard-size wheelbases, and the trays fold up for compact storage.

Specs:
The mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.
The XC-Extended bike rack comes with 2 sets of black XC wheel hoops, which are great for carrying standard bikes. It also comes with 2 sets of silver XTC wheel hoops to give you extra length for carrying recumbent bikes. The hoops adjust with a hand knob and slide along the arms of the rack to accommodate each bike's wheelbase. Just loosen the hand knob to swap out the XC wheel hoops with the XTC. They also include rubber straps to secure your wheels to the rack.
The XC cradles measure 65" outside to outside and 37" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 3-1/2" wide bikes with wheelbases up to 52" wide.
The XTC wheel hoops measure 81" outside to outside and 51-1/2" inside to inside. They hold tires up to 2-1/2" wide and wheelbases up to 69". They also include straps that secure your bike's wheels to the rack.
You can fold the mast down for easy access to your hatch. Simply pull the pin at the base of the mast and fold it down in either direction. You can also fold the trays up against the mast for storage. Just pull the pins at the junctions where the trays meet the rack, fold the trays up, and reinsert the pins into the provided holes.
The rack includes a threaded hitch pin and a clip that work with a built-in anti-wobble device in the shank to eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. You can replace the pin and clip with an anti-rattle lock (sold separately) to secure the bike carrier to your vehicle. It also has a removable aluminum sleeve that lets you convert the rack for use in 1-1/4" hitches.

This hitch-mount rack is perfect for carrying 2 recumbent bikes. It includes 2 sets of wheel hoops so you can transport bikes with extra-long wheelbases and bikes with standard-size wheelbases, and the trays fold up for compact storage.Bought this rack to transport a SWB and A LWB recumbent. Ordered it after reading some reports on it. We were in the middle of a move from Georgia to Wisconsin and had to leave one of our vehicles in Atlanta. I found a SWB in Tennessee and needed to transport it to Wisconsin with our vehicle when I flew back to Atlanta to drive the our vehicle home.
I had the carrier sent to my friends home in Atlanta. When I arrived from the airport I was able to install the primary support into the 2" receiver and bolt in place. The bolt tightened down the support so there was no play in the connection. I then took off for Wisconsin with a stop in Tennessee to test drive/purchase the bike and take it home. I had a lot riding on the performance this bike rack. If it didn't work I would forego the purchase of the bike I had found.
Got to Tennessee and purchased the bike. Took the components out of the book and assembled them onto the primary support member. Adjustment of the tire holders to fit the wheel base was easy and fast, actually did it in the dark with a flash light. Really liked the removable pins with the ball detents in them. That made the entire process very simple and quick. We had the bike on the rack in less than 10 minutes.
I transported the bike more than 900 miles with it on the rack. It performed perfectly at speeds above the posted limits. I have attached a photo showing it in our driveway at home.
The only concern I have with the rack is the attachment of the rack to the primary support. This is not a tight compression fit and it wobbles a little. This causes the bike to behave a bit like a rocking horse when it is on the rack. This connection condition, while not critical needs to be a little tighter to make it a rock solid mount.
I highly recommend this rack, it performs as promised and is a great value.
Rack arrived a day earlier than promised. Very easy to assemble. I did not need the extensions, but glad I have them for the future. The sleeve that fits the 2" receiver is a little loose so whole rack is wobbly, but should be able to correct with some sort of shim. I mounted on front of truck (because I pull a travel trailer) so clearance between inside bike pedal and truck grill really close. I wrapped pedal in towel to (hopefully) to prevent damage to truck grill. Very easy to load bikes on and off. Ratcheting clamp hold the bikes down well. There is a hole for a lock on the ratcheting clamp. So far, very happy with my purchase.
Thank you again for such excellent customer service. I am including two pics from today showing the bikes mounted on my 2009 Honda Fit with the bike rack we purchased from you. Please feel free to use them in any of your publications, print or web.
Very satisfied with the quality, sturdiness and ease of use. The recumbent trays work for our regular bikes with the added feature of the straps for the wheels. Just throw a bike cable through the bike frames and through the hitch frame and you're good to go, nothing else is needed!
After a lot of researching I came to find this Swagman. It was about $100 less than the competitor and I called customer service and they were awesome. They explained what I need to measure on my brakes because I have a recumbent and a regular bike. It came with great instructions and it was easy to put together. It is well-built and easy to use. I always had a bike rack that hung and this is much better. I highly recommend it and once again the customer service was great.
Just received our carrier. Easy to assemble and very solid when mounted on the car. We haven't used it yet but my bikes are very secure. This is exactly what I wanted. Great carrier .
This product is just as advertised! Light duty but sturdy enough to handle a 33lb., long wheelbase recumbent and 28lb. mountain bike. Assembly is a very straight forward DIY project!
Many thanks to etrailer for excellent service!
Easy to understand for newbies using bike racks
Excellent service! Less than 3 days for free delivery! Fairly easy to put together. Had no problems taking 1 lwb recumbent and 1 diamond frame bike 120 miles. Excellent quality for reasonable price.
I love this trailer. Only one problem is that the 2" adapter is a bit loose in the hitch. Planning to add a shim to correct that. I have a recumbent and the adjustment wheel brackets work perfect. I highly recommend it to other "bent" riders.
The maximum wheel base is 66 inches, so your recumbents may be a bit long. Hollywood Racks, part HR1000R, will accommodate up to a 74 inch wheel base and it is a similar design as the Swagman.
--Very nice rack for a recumbent long wheel base bike.easy to set up for my bike.easy to load the bike and take off.on a Jeep with a spare tire you can only haul one bike but I only haul one bike. Price was good and shipping was very fast. The best rack for the money that I could find.
Etrailer has been so very helpful. I have a woman's Giant Cypress bike that hangs very low on a rack - especially on a car. I sent pictures and measurments and etrailer examined the hitch and bike then made a recommendation for a Swagman platform bike rack. (The swing away's would not work) It was fairly easy to put together. We effortlessly put the two bikes on and it felt very secure with plenty of room above the ground. On the highway I watched it from the back window and felt confident that the bikes would not come loose. We traveled about 80 miles with no problems. The only complaint I have would be it was difficult to unhitch the bike hooks; the latch seemed to stick a bit. I was very pleased with our first voyage.
Carrier is a wonderful design. I purchased it to transport my LWB recumbent and my wife's mountain bike and it handles both perfectly. It is very easy to install and remove thanks to the fold-up feature. I received this hitch a couple business days after I ordered it. Really fast shippers and great people to do business with. I would recommend this rack from etrailer.com to anyone needing a hitch mount rack.
Great Bike Rack! Easy on and off. Great price too!
Great rack.. holds two bikes soundly with no wobble.
The product itself seems excellent--well-crafted, solid construction with quality materials. Time will tell of course, but it looks and feels good. It fits into the back of my tow hitch, and my long wheelbase recumbent fits on it using the extended wheel wells.
I had one significant assembly issue, but figured it out. I was instructed to insert two screws into part of the item that had holes, but the holes were not threaded. For a few minutes I was afraid that the product was defective. Then I noticed that a solid block of metal with two threaded holes had slipped out of position, almost invisible. With some tapping from a wooden mallet and working it with a screwdriver I got the block of metal into position and completed the assembly.
I bought the Swagman Extended platform rack because I have a very long recumbent bike. The bike fits onto the rack perfectly and very securely. The rack is solid and very well-made--there is nothing cheap about it. It is a quality product. When I had an installation problem, Jamie at etrailer was incredibly helpful--she even had a Swagman representative call and help me. Incredible customer service! Thanks Jamie & Ian.
I have a Cruzbike Silvio and due to their shape, it is difficult to find a carrier. I read about the Swagman XC - Extended platform and ordered it. I am not a handy person or mechanical, yet putting together this carrier was a breeze. The only negative thing was the photos found in the instructions were small and difficult to see so I took a photo with my phone and expanded the photo and that handled that issue. It took me a very short amount of time to put this together and attach it to my truck. Attaching the carrier to my truck is easy and it holds my Cruzbike very well. I typically take my bike to our local bike path. While out riding, I detach the carrier, fold it up, and place it in my truck for safety. I highly recommend this carrier, especially if you have a recumbent bicycle.
Best bang for the buck you're going to find anywhere (5*). Fits my long wheelbase recumbent with additional kit (4*). Folds out of the way, very accommodating, I can fit my [email protected] on it with 4" tires (5*). Use the 3/4 hexed bolt for a sturdier connection (4*). If you're anal about your bikes finish, put a sock or sheepskin over the eva padded hook. It will scratch if you do not (3*).
This rack worked great with my recumbent bike (Rans Rocket) and my wife's road bike. I searched for weeks to find a rack that would work with both bikes and finally lucked out and found this one. The extended loops gave it just enough room for both bikes. And, the bikes are rock solid on the rack with just one quick lock of the sliding hook. Time from set up to driving off with the bikes is less than five minutes. This includes attaching the rack to the vehicle. Great bike rack. Very easy on the back too!
I am very happy with my recumbent bike rack. It is super easy to attach and I am enjoying many long hours on the trails now. Thanks so much.
5000 miles so far with rack on rear of 5th wheel.Rear camera shows the 2 bikes riding steady with no movement. Quick mounting and dismounting of bikes. Solid and well made. Highly reccommend.
The unit is well engineered and the quality is excellent. Easy assemble and all the parts were there. I recommend this to anyone with a recumbent bike.
With the unit collapsed, it doesn't have sufficient clearance with my spare tire to be able to open the rear swinging door. 2" more would do it. Spare tire size might be the reason.
This bike rack is the only one that I could find that can be used for a recumbent or a regular bike. That's why I bought it. Actually, I have only used it one time since I did not need my bikes transported but once. The bikes survivied the trip, but there was more wobbling. Maybe I need to adjust my installation. It's quite similar to the way city buses hold the bikes.
Swagman bike rack arrived yesterday. After removing all contents from the packages and laying them all on my garage floor I placed the universal foot into my Forester hitch receiver and proceeded to assemble the rack there, in-situ. So easy to put together and it took a little more than an hour. It is very well made, solid, does not wobble and looks great. I can't wait to get on the road with our bikes soon. I am confident that this rack will serve us well for many years to come.
