Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.

You can head out for a big weekend at the lake or campground and leave no toy behind with this all-in-one Swagman Trailhead rack. The bike rack has capacity for a family of bicycles and includes a ball mount so that you can bring along a pop-up camper, a small boat or jet ski trailer, or any other lightweight trailer. The ball mount includes a 3/4" diameter hole for mounting a hitch ball (sold separately).

Dual-Arm Design

Swagman Trailhead dual arms

The hitch-mounted rack features a dual-arm design to provide your bikes with maximum support during transport. The dual arms easily fold down for storage - just pull a pin and tilt for rear access.

Anti-Sway Cradles

Swagman Trailhead Anti-Sway Cradles

The Trailhead has anti-sway cradles that rotate and slide along the dual arms to perfectly position your bikes, reducing the need for a bike adapter bar. The cradles include durable rubber straps to hold your bikes firmly in place on the rack. Because the cradles secure each bike at three places (twice along the top tube and once along the seat post or down tube), rocking back and forth is virtually eliminated, preventing bike-to-bike contact.

Tilt Forward for Rear Cargo Access

Swagman Trailhead dual arms

This versatile rack tilts forward, away from your vehicle, when you remove a pin at the base. This allows easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area.

Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin

Swagman Trailhead Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Pin

It includes a threaded pin and clip to secure the bike carrier to your vehicle and prevent rattle in the hitch receiver. Replace the included threaded pin with Swagman's anti-rattle hitch lock (S64027 - sold separately) to lock your rack to the hitch.

Video Transcript for Swagman Trailhead Towing Tilting 4 Bike Rack Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Swagman Trailhead Hitch Mounted 4 Bike Rack with the towing capability, part number S63390. The Swagman Trailhead has a carrying capacity of 4 bicycles with a weight capacity of 35 lbs per bike. The attached ball mount on the bike rack has a gross trailer weight of 3000 lbs with a 300 lbs tongue weight. The bike rack can also tilt forward to allow you to have access to your rear hatch by forcing to loosen up our black wingnut for our anti-rattle device and then remove the silver pin. With the pin removed, we can tilt the rack down. Then we'll go ahead and reinstall our pin and then tighten down our anti-rattle device. Now with the bike rack like this, it is in a stored position, the arms fold downward so that you can reduce the overall added length of the vehicle. To bring the arms up, we'll pull the silver pin at the top of mast and then we'll simply swing the cradle arms up.

We'll then reinstall the silver pin and clip. The frame cradles on the Swagman Trailhead are made of a nice soft rubber to protect your bikes finish. They also twist or tilt back and forth to accommodate different bike sizes and styles. They also move up and down the cradle arms to accommodate different bike widths, making sure that your bikes don't come in contact with each other. They also feature these nice soft rubber straps which is going to help secure you bike to the bike rack. These straps can easily be removed and used on this bottom section of the cradle to be used as an anti-sway.

The anti-sway strap is going to wrap around the vertical bar of your bike and prevent it from coming in contact with your bike rack and also your other bikes. Now that we've gone over some of the special features, we'll go ahead and show you how to install it. We're begin our installation by simply sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch, we'll then need to line up the pinholes in the hitch, with the pinholes in our bike rack. We'll then thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a socket or a wrench. Then we'll go ahead and take the clip and secure it on the other side. Next, we're going to go ahead and install our anti-wobble device. This black wingnut here, with this black plate is going to screw into this gold threaded hole here.

What this is going to do, is when it's tightened down, it's going to prevent the mast of the bike rack from wiggling back and forth, giving you a nice solid, sturdy hold. We need to make sure that this bracket rests on both sides of these A-shaped plates here, and then we'll go ahead and tighten it down. You can see the mast straighten up and then you know the mast of the bike rack is really straight. Now that the bike rack secured, we'll go ahead and show you how to install the hitch ball. Now the hitch ball is not included, but today for demonstration we'll be using 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, with a inch shaft. Therefore, we'll begin by just sliding the shaft of the hitch ball into the hole of the bike rack.

Then put the lock washer on, and then follow it with the nut. Now we'll go ahead and show you how to load up some bikes. We'll begin by simply placing the frame of our bike into the frame cradles of our bike rack. We'll then go ahead and bring the rubber straps around and secure it on the other side. Now we'll go ahead and take the anti-sway strap to go around the vertical bar of the bike and secure it back to the other side. We'll just go ahead and repeat the same process for the other two straps. Now with our bikes all loaded up, we'll go ahead and secure our trailer and hit the road. That'll complete today's review of the Swagman Trailhead Towing Hitch Mounted 4 Bike Rack, part number, S63390. .

Bought this to use when towing our pop-up camper. Works great with our 3 bikes and is easy to use. Makes for a little bumpier ride when we pull the pop up with it attached but otherwise no complaints. 661959

Product seems sturdy, When i went to assemble it the bolt holes did not line up, had to elongate the holes to get the bolts in. top pin sould not fit with the bike rack up also had to elongate the holes to get the pin in. Was not aware of the threaded pin to attach it to the hitch on my truck, would have been nice to know. (maybe it said on the web site but i didn't see it.) Not as well built as i thought it would be, kind of dissappointed. 20222

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for the Front of an A-Frame Trailer
  • First you will need a receiver on the front of the trailer if you want to use a hitch bike rack. We actually have the Bike Bunk # CC-275 but it is limited to 100 pounds total weight. Otherwise what I recommend is to use # D210 which has a receiver and ball mount platform allowing you to tow the trailer and carrier a bike rack with bikes. We also have some towing bike racks # S64675 and # S63390 you might be interested in. If you keep the bikes on the tow vehicle then you will not be...

  • Towing a Trailer and Carrying Bikes at the Same Time with a 2012 Toyota RAV4
  • Yes, there are ways to carry bikes and tow a trailer at the same time. First we need to look at the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle. I checked the 2012 Toyota RAV4 owner's manual and for the V6 with tow package the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is 350 pounds. This is important because the combined weight of the trailer's tongue weight and the weight of the loaded bike rack cannot exceed 350 pounds. The weight of your 2004 Starcraft 2107 trailer is 1,758 pounds. That would...

  • What is the Weight Capacity of the Swagman Trailhead 4 Towing Bike Rack # S63390
  • I reached out to my contact at Swagman to verify the weight capacity of the Trailhead 4 Towing Bike Rack, # S63390, and he told me that this bike rack was originally rated at 100 lbs because they wanted to take the tongue weight of a trailer into consideration. The actual weight capacity of this bike rack is 35 lbs per bike, or 140 lbs. When loading bikes on this bike rack, it is important to keep the tongue weight of your trailer in mind. The total tongue weight capacity of this bike...

  • Reducing Play and Rattle when Using Swagman Trailhead Towing Bike Rack for 2 Inch Trailer Hitches
  • The Swagman Trailhead Towing Bike Rack, # S63390, comes with a threaded hitch pin that, when tightened, pulls the shank tight to the receiver and should eliminate any movement of the rack. Since you are experiencing excessive movement of the Swagman Trailhead Towing Bike Rack # S63390, make sure that you are tightening the pin down to the specifications in the instructions. If this is not enough to reduce the play between the shank and hitch, a supplemental anti-rattle device could be...

  • How Do Bikes Install on the Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike Rack
  • Childrens bikes typically have smaller frames that make them more difficult to load onto a hanging bike rack. I believe I have a solution for you, but you will need to measure the length of the top tube of your bike frame. The Swagman Bike Adapter Bar # S64005 can fit frames with top top tubes from 16 inches up to 29-1/2 inches and should help considerably to install a childrens bike on your rack. • Swagman 4 Bike Recommendation That Allows Small Trailer be Towed Behind It
  • The Swagman Towing Trailhead part # S63390 is designed exactly for what you are looking to do. It will carry up to 4 bikes and allows you to tow a trailer behind it as well that weighs up to 3,000 lb so your 500 lb trailer would be a piece of cake.

  • To determine if the Swagman Original 4 Bike Towing Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches - Tilting Item # S64675 will clear the spare tire on your 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited there is one important measurement needed. On your Jeep's trailer hitch measure from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the spare tire. If that distance is less than 6 inches the rack will clear the spare tire. Another option for a towing rack is Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike Rack...

  • Hitch Adapter And Bike Carrier For 4 Bikes That Allows Towing On 2007 Toyota Highlander
  • We do have an adapter that may do exactly what you want. It is the MaxxTow Dual Hitch Extender, part # MT70070. This installs on your 2 inch receiver on your 2007 Toyota Highlander, and gives you two 2 inch receivers, one for towing and one for an accessory like a bike carrier as you mentioned. • Towing Style Hitch Bike Rack for Transporting 4 Bikes While Towing Trailer
  • If you want to both tow a trailer and carry bikes using a 2-inch rear-mounted hitch like # 75235 on your 2008 RAV4 then the best option is a towing style rack. Swagman makes two 4-bike carriers that allow this multi-tasking. The Trailhead 4 Bike Rack # S63390 has a long shank that, like a standard ball mount, has a 3/4-inch hole to accept a hitch ball like 1-7/8-inch ball # 19256 or 2-inch ball # 19258. Towing capacity is 3,000-lbs gross trailer weight (GTW) and 300-lbs tongue weight...

  • Carrying Bikes and Towing Trailer With 2012 Toyota Sienna
  • As a first step, I recommend taking a measurement to determine the exact rise you need in a ball mount. Measure from the top of your receiver (outside of tube) down to the ground. When we installed Curt Class III # 13105 on a 2012 Sienna, we found this measurement to be 12 inches. Then with the trailer up on its jack and level, measure the coupler height by measuring the distance from the underside of the coupler to the ground (17 inches is typical). The difference between these two measurements...

  • The Swagman Trailhead 4 Bike Towing Rack, # S63390, will most likely fit with your pop-up camper, but you will want to do some measuring first. Clearance for the jack and propane tank will depend on how far they are from the front of the trailer coupler. The arms of this rack measure 26 inches from the center mast and 13 inches from the center mast to the center of the hitch pin hole. This means you will need about 13 inches of clearance from the front of the trailer coupler to the...

The only possible drawback to using a towing bike rack is the fact that when towing with it, the tongue weight capacity of the rack is pretty low, 300 lbs.
