Anti Rattle for Use with 2" to 1-1/4" Adapter
Updated 10/13/2026 | Published 10/06/2026 >
Question:
Hello. I was given a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 bike rack with the 1-1/4 hitch shank. My 4runner has a 2 inch receiver. I was looking at the Curt 2 to 1-1/4 adapter sleeve, but I am also wondering how to approach the Anti-Rattle dilema. The Sherpa 2.0 has a Cam and Ball system for anti-rattle, but this will only apply pressure against the 1-1/4 sleeve. What can I do to prevent the Curt adapter sleeve from rattling within the 2 hitch? Any idea other than the old U-bolt style pressure plate? Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out Ian. Rather than using a universal reducer sleeve like the Curt Reducer Sleeve - 2" Hitch to 1-1/4" Shank # C49WQ, I'd recommend the Kuat Bike Rack Shank Adapter # D101. This adapter is designed specifically for compatible Kuat bike racks, including your Kuat Sherpa, and allows you to use your existing 1-1/4" bike rack shank in a 2" hitch receiver. The biggest advantage of using the # D101 instead of a universal reducer sleeve is that it allows you to retain the bike rack's built in anti-rattle system. This helps keep the rack secure in the receiver and minimizes unwanted movement while traveling. I'm including a graphic that shows the # D101 used with a 1-1/4" receiver.
What type of bikes are you going to be using the rack for?

Hi Ian, satisfied customer here! I did exactly what Christopher H is suggesting and it works perfectly! I was a little skeptical but the adapter screws right to the Kuat rack and the anti rattle design of the rack just like it does in a 1.25 receiver. I am supper satisfied with the result. Mike M

Agree with the other comments. I had a Volvo which had the 1-1/4 receiver and when I switched vehicles that had a 2” receiver I bought the Kuat adapter. It works great! Plus due to the fact that my Defender has the full-size spare on the rear door I purchased the Kuat Hi-Lo Extension which gives 7” or 10” added length. The beauty of this is the screw-in pin (which can be fitted with a Kuat lock) making everything tight without wobble….as well as secure. And yeah….i get it….if someone really wants to steal your bike and rack….they probably can. But at least you made it difficult so they might skip your rig an go for another schmoes bike.

Get the Kuat 1.25 to 2" receiver adapter. Allows you to tighten the rack as designed. Worked great for me.

I bought this adapter for my new RAV4. I used to have a Camry with a 1-1/4" hitch but the RAV4 has a 2" hitch. The adapter was exactly what I needed. It fit perfectly and was easy to install. I love my Kuat rack so I'm glad I can continue to use it. etrailer is the best!
