Question:

Good afternoon, I have a 2023 Toyota Camry and am using a 1 1/4 in class 1 hitch. I have a Thule apex xt and sometimes scrapes on the ground when going over speed bumps or dips in the road at a moderate speed. I would like to know if their is a 3-6 in riser I can as my Thule apex comes with a two inch adapter and what I would need to get to reduce the extra rattling from using the adapter. Additionally I also have a Thule t2 xtr in the 1 1/4 in version and would also like to know if I can fit a riser adapter and what I can get to reduce the rattling.

Hey Freddy, we have just what you are looking for with the hitch rise adapter part # e93YR. This will give you a 5 inch rise for your Thule Apex bike rack # TH9025XT and will prevent the scraping. You will need to use the 2 inch hitch adapter you have with the Apex.

To take the rattle and movement out of the adapter you would want a u-bolt adapter like the part # RM-061-125.

We don't have any similar hitch adapters that would have a 1-1/4 inch hitch opening that also has a rise built in.

What would be the maximum weight I can carry using the Thule apex, hitch rise adapter and the class 1 hitch?

@FreddyS The hitch adapter will cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. Most Class I hitches are rated for 200 lbs so you'd be limited to 100 lbs.

I got this setup for exactly this reason, to fit Thule bike rack to my Honda Odyssey and avoid scraping uneven ground. The adaptor works well and there are no rattles once the Quiet Hitch bracket is added. Without the Quiet Hitch it would have some play so that's important. Its a higher lift to put the bikes on but I can live with that. Also important to account for the load reduction on the hitch due to the added leverage from the extension.
