Video Transcript for Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster line of dual hitch receiver adapters. Most motor homes are going to have a hitch on the back, and it's going to come in handy whenever we've got to flat tow our vehicle. But another problem arises. Once we hook it up and we have our tow bar in place, where are we going to put our bikes We don't want to take up any more room than we have to on the inside, and putting a bike inside our vehicle can be a problem, as well. That's where our Roadmaster Dual Hitch Adapter's going to come into play. Now, this can be either in the rise or drop position.

Our Roadmaster series of dual hitch adapters are going to fit into a 2" by 2" receiver tube opening, so they'll fit your RVs that have a 2" hitch on it. And they're also going to provide us with two more receiver tube openings, that way we can carry a bike rack or a cargo carrier while flat towing our vehicle. Each one in the line is going to have a 400 lbs tongue weight, along with a 10,000 lbs gross trailer weight rating. Now, keep in mind that these are designed to work with tow bar set ups to flat tow your vehicle, and they shouldn't be used with trailers. So we did put our hitch adapter in the rise position, so we put that 4" on top, but since it does provide us with that 2" rise or drop on the other side, it dropped it down 2", which made it almost perfectly level. Making sure your flat tow set up is nice and level is always important because we don't want any extra stress, either on our front suspension of our car or pulling down on the hitch on our motor home, that way we have a nice even pulling weight when we're going down the road. Now, each one of our Roadmaster dual hitch adapters is going to provide you with a 2" drop or rise on one end, and on the other end it will have varying height differences, depending on which one you pick up.

There's going to be several different sizes available: 2-1/4" rise or drop, a 4" rise or drop, there's going to be a 6" rise and drop, and also an 8" rise or drop. So we'll go ahead and show you how to measure for the appropriate rise or drop for your flat tow set up.Most tow bar manufacturers are going to want no more than a 3" difference between the connection point of the motor home and the connection point of the car, so you want to try to get it as level as you can. The way we're going to measure, is you want to make sure that your motor home is on nice, flat, level ground, and that if you do have air suspension, make sure it's aired up at the traveling height. Then we're going to take a tape measurer, and we're going to measure from the ground just right to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, and in our case, it's just a little bit over 22-1/2". Now we can move over to the car side. Now again, on the car, you want to make sure that it's on nice, level ground, and we'll go ahead and park it.

This time we're going to be measuring right to the center of where our tow bar is going to attach at. So here you can see it's just under about 19-1/2", so we're right at that 3" difference, maybe a tiny bit over. So in our case, since the car connection point is lower, we're going to need a drop, but if yours was higher, you would get a rise. So there is that 3" difference there, so we're going to need anywhere up to a 3" drop to make it nice and level. And in our case, we're going to put it in the rise position, so we can just slide the shank into the receiver tube and line up the pin holes. Now, our dual hitch adapter does not come with a hitch pin, but you can pick those up here at etrailer.com, as well as any locks if you'd like to purchase those.

It is going to accept a standard 5/8" pin and clip, so we can just put it in and much sure everything's secure, and then we can load our bikes up. So now that we have our bikes hooked up, we have a spot down here below that we can hook our tow bar up to, so we'll go ahead and do that now as well.So as you can see, we have our bikes loaded up, as well as the tow bar being hooked up to our car, that way we can take our bikes with us and we can hit the road and start our adventure. And that'll finish up your look at the Roadmaster line of dual hitch receiver adapters.

Needed double box so bikes could be carried outside the car in tow. I have not traveled with it yet but from the information I got from etrailer this with the 2.0 Swagman rack should be perfect. The rack is on the back of the Pick Up getting a good shake down and a re-torque of the nuts and bolt before the winter travel. 547091

Great product exactly as ordered. This is the perfect setup for a gas motorhome towing a Jeep with a bike rack. Salesperson was top notch and kept me apprised at each step of the process. Thank you etrailer! 669536

This product doesn’t accommodate my bicycle rack but does for my tow bar. They are both 2”. The bike rack fits in my motorhome receiver and my old drop down hitch adapter that I purchased from Roadmaster. I had to grind the corners down a little off my 2” bike rack male 2” tube. I’m sure that I can’t be the only person that has encountered this. Other than that I like it. Thank you 657663

We have used this hitch for a year, now, and it has shown little sign of wear. No issues....which is how we like it since traveling in a motor home presents enough issues on its own! 646687

  • Trailer Hitch Adapter to Carry Bike Rack for Electric Bikes and Flat Tow Behind Motorhome
  • To use a bike rack while you flat tow a vehicle behind your motorhome all you will need is a dual hitch adapter. There are three of these that could work depending on the rise or drop you need. • How to Carry a Bike Rack and Flat-Tow a Vehicle
  • There is not a maximum length ball mount or hitch extension that can be used in a flat-towing setup. However, the further out you go, the less tongue weight the ball mount or extension will be able to carry which is not really an issue for a flat-towing setup but is something you need to keep in mind. The best option we have for you to flat-tow your vehicle and carry a bike rack is with the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter part # RM-077-2 for 2-1/4" rise/drop, part # RM-077-4...

The EasyFold XT has a weight capacity of 65 lbs per bike which will accommodate your needs, and the fenders will not be an issue because the EasyFold uses ratcheting straps to secure the wheels and has independent arms that...

If you are needing the dual receiver in order to carry an accessory at the back of your RV while also flat towing a vehicle behind the RV then there are some options that will work for you such as Roadmaster dual receiver adapter # RM-077-2 (2 inch rise/drop), # RM-077-4 (4 inch rise/drop), # RM-077-6 (6 inch rise/drop), or # RM-077-8 (8 inch rise/drop)....

  • Can Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter be Used with a Winch
  • I do have a solution for you but when I reached out to my contact at Roadmaster they did not recommend using the Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter # RM-077-6 with a winch. Instead what I recommend using is a Gen-Y Hitch. We have part # 325-GH-313 which has a 5" rise/drop and part # 325-GH-314 which has a 7-1/2" rise/drop which you can use. These are much more heavy-duty than the adapters used for flat towing so you can definitely use it with your winch on a mounting bracket like part # BDW20011...

  • If you use a hitch adapter like the part # RM-077-6 you do cut the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. This is true regardless of the capacity of the adapter. If the capacity reduction is fine it can be used with the Curt cargo carrier part # C18153.

You can then add a hitch ball part # 63845 for 2" or part # 63847 for 2-5/16". The reason that this will be the best option for you is because it will not limit your towing capacity like other dual hitch adapters will.
