Can Dual Hitch Adapter Be Used To Flat Tow Jeep and Carry Accessory In Upper Receiver?
Updated 05/05/2021 | Published 05/04/2021 >
Question:
I have a Tiffin open road 2016 Towing a 2018 jeep grand Cherokee and I have a hitch two tier 4” height extension that I’d like to put between the tow bar and the receiver. Putting a 150 lb accessory in a welded box on the top outlet and the tow bar on the bottom. Please advise and how can I strengthen the situation if needed. The capacity is 5000 on the hitch and weight of the keep right at 5000.

As long as you are not exceeding the tongue weight rating of the trailer hitch receiver or dual hitch receiver adapter, you will not have any issues adding your 150lb accessory with the adapter as is, but I do not recommend modifying the adapter in any way as that will void the warranty of the adapter.
If you cannot find the tongue weight rating of your adapter you would be better off replacing it with one like the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter, 6" Drop/Rise # RM-077-6 which has a 10000lb towing rating and a 400lb tongue weight rating which is plenty for carrying 150lbs in the upper receiver while flat towing your Jeep Grand Cherokee.
I included a video of the # RM-077-6 for you to take a look at.
