Can the Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter be Used w/ a Winch?

Updated 02/22/2024 | Published 02/18/2024

Question:

Hi: I would like to tow with the 2inch and use the 6inch riser for a winch to pull vehicle onto my flatbed trailer. The towing portion is not a major concern since I will never tow more than 7k. Can the 6inch riser of this hitch adapter handle a winch pulling a 5k vehicle onto my trailer? Thanks, John

No, it definitely can not handle a winch! We have encountered this question before and Roadmaster has repeatedly shot it down. The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter item # RM-077-6 can only be used while flat towing and using an accessory like a cargo carrier or bike rack.

Gen-Y on the other hand has a ball mount that will work great for exactly what you're wanting to do. It is the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers item # 325-GH-314. This is built for a more heavy-duty application like yours then the adapters used for flat towing. It has a 10,000 lbs capacity and up to a 7-1/2" drop or rise. The four built in 2" receiver slots will give you adjustability and includes a 2" and 2-5/16".

Phew! Thanks. That is what I was afraid of. I'll just go with plan B to weld a winch plate to my trailer.
