Get More Utility Out of Your Vehicle

trailer mate hitch installed

You don't need a heavy-duty truck to get out there with your gear. With 1,500 lbs of towing capacity and 150 lbs of tongue weight, this hitch is built for everyday use. It's right at home carrying a cargo tray for a weekend trip, taking bikes out to the trailhead, or even hauling a small trailer to the hardware store. The 2" receiver is what most racks, trays, and ball mounts are designed for, so chances are the gear you already have (or the gear you want) will slide right in. You shouldn't have to hunt for an adapter to make your accessory work. And it's Class III, which means it's strong enough for regular use, not just occasional hauling.

Custom Installation

This hitch bolts directly to the frame using included hardware and the tools most folks already have in the garage. There's no need to drill into the vehicle or weld anything in place, and you won't be cutting up the bumper just to make it fit. It's designed for a simple install whether you're putting it on yourself or having a shop handle it. If you'd rather not DIY, we can help you find a local installer using our dealer locator.

Tested and Proven

This hitch meets SAE J684 standards, so it's been tested to handle its rated capacity under real towing conditions. You may not spend time thinking about certifications, but they matter when you're pulling weight. This one covers strength, performance, and structural integrity, so you're working with something that's actually been proven, not just claimed.

  • Lighted Trailer Hitch For Carrying E-Bikes On A 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid
Hi Deb! There are quite a few hitches available for your 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid and I have the 2" receiver options (best size for what you are wanting) listed below with their corresponding weights. • Will Trailer Mate Hitch Impact Kick Sensor Functionality on 2022 Honda CR-V EX-L Hybrid
Hi Al; any hitch you install on your 2022 Honda CR-V EX-L Hybrid will impact the kick sensor, including the # TMT34FR and the # C13397 you ordered. However, I don't expect the functionality to be lost. The receiver sits in a spot where it will almost certainly block part of the sensor. Placing your foot to either side of the receiver is typically enough for it to work. You wouldn't want to be kicking your foot under the middle with a receiver there anyway. It is a slight adjustment and...

  • Comparing Trailer Mate Hitch For CR-V To etrailer And Curt Hitch
Good afternoon Steve, excellent question. The Trailer Mate hitch # TMT34FR for 2017-2026 CR-V is rated a bit lighter at 1,500 lbs GTW / 150 lbs TW, whereas the Curt and etrailer-branded CR-V hitches go up to 3,500 lbs GTW / 525 lbs TW. For light duty bike racks, cargo trays, small utility trailers the Trailer Mate is a budget-friendly option. If you want more headroom for heavier racks or towing, the Curt/etrailer models give you that. That said, your CR-V is limited to 1,500lbs towing...

  • Will Aftermarket Hitch Install Void Warranty Of 2025 Honda CR-V SUV?
Daniel, rest easy; a properly installed hitch like this one # TMT34FR from Trailer Mate does not void your Honda warranty. By law, a dealer can’t deny warranty coverage unless they prove the hitch caused the issue. Since this is a bolt-on install that doesn’t require frame modification, you’re good to go. This is a great add-on for towing a light trailer or throwing a bike rack on your 2025 Honda CR-V. Do you plan to install it yourself or have a shop do the work? I can help with torque...

  • How Does Aftermarket Trailer Mate 2" Hitch Compare To Dealer OEM Hitch On 2017-2026 Honda CR-V?
Great observation, Luis. The Trailer Mate hitch # TMT34FR is designed with a concealed cross tube, so only the 2 inch receiver is visible. That means you don’t lose much clearance it tucks up nicely under the bumper. Many CR-V owners prefer this over the factory option due to cost, but the quality and fitment will be basically the same. I attached an image which shows a measurement of 13-1/2" from the ground to the inside top of the receiver. Do you plan to use it more for racks or towing?...

  • Which Hitch For 2020 CRV With Cargo Carrier Loaded With Generator + Camping Gear
Maria, 150 lbs is actually a perfect match for a 2020 CR-V cargo setup. Most 2 inch hitch-mounted carriers weigh around 40–60 lbs, which leaves you with about 90–110 lbs left for gear. Just be mindful not to overload it, since leverage at the back of the vehicle can feel heavier than you expect and the limit of your CR-V is 150lb. The Trailer Mate # TMT34FR you were looking at also maxes out at 150lbs so it's a good match! Do you already have a cargo carrier picked out, or are you still...

  • Is Rear Bumper Removal Or Drilling Required To Install Trailer Mate Hitch On 2017-2026 Honda CR-V?
Sharon, no bumper removal required here. The Trailer Mate hitch # TMT34FR uses existing frame holes and only asks that you enlarge one access hole on each side of the frame rail so you can feed the carriage bolts and spacers inside. A step bit or rotary tool works great - many DIYers get it done in under an hour. You’ll also temporarily drop the exhaust off its rubber hangers to make space, supporting it with a ratchet trap or something similar, but that’s a quick step and everything...

  • Will Hands Free Trunk LiftGate Be Impacted By Trailer Mate Hitch Install On 2026 Honda CR-V Touring?
Yes, Karen, Trailer Mate confirmed this 2" hitch # TMT34FR for all trims through 2026, including Touring models with the hands-free liftgate. The only note is that the hitch receiver may partially interfere with the foot sensor, making the liftgate less sensitive. Most folks just have to swipe their foot a little off to the side of the receiver and it still works. Do you use the liftgate sensor often, or is that less of a priority for you? Other hitches will have this same situation so...

  • Can 2019 Honda CR-V Pull A Pop-Up Camper Weighing 1,200 Pounds With Trailer Mate Hitch?
You’re right to look into these towing numbers carefully. The Trailer Mate hitch # TMT34FR itself is rated for 1,500 lbs GTW and 150 lbs tongue weight, so on paper it lines up perfectly with Honda’s factory tow rating for your CR-V which is also 1,500lbs GTW and 150 lbs tongue weight. Normally we say to stay within whichever rating is lower, but in this case, they are the same so you’ll be in good shape. Don’t forget you’ll also need a wiring harness so your trailer lights sync with the...

  • Can I Use Weight Distribution Hitch With Trailer Mate 2" Receiver On 2025 Honda CR-V?
Good question, Nick. This Trailer Mate hitch # TMT34FR, along with all other options for the CR-V, is not rated for use with weight distribution systems. The frame and tongue capacities of the CR-V are simply too light-duty for that setup. If you’re towing a small trailer, stick with a regular ball mount and make sure you’re within Honda’s 1,500 lb tow rating for non hybrid models (double check your specific owner's manual). What trailer are you planning to pull? I can help suggest the...

  • What Hardware Comes With Trailer Mate Hitch TMT34FR For 2022 Honda CR-V?
Bill, the hardware kit include in the Trailer Mate 2" Hitch Receiver # TMT34FR has 2 7/16-14 GRD8 bolts and 1 1/2-13 carriage bolt paired with spacer blocks, and Trailer Mate provides fishwires to pull them into place. So, you don’t need to buy any special tools beyond a basic socket set and torque wrench. Other DIYers, did you stick with the included fishwires, or did you use a different method to get the bolts in place?

  • Affordable 2" Trailer Hitch For 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid With Thule 2-Bike Rack
Yes, Jeff, this Trailer Mate hitch # TMT34FR is confirmed to fit all 2017–2026 CR-V models, including the Hybrid and even the FCEV (hydrogen fuel cell) variant. With its 2 inch receiver and 150-lb tongue weight rating, it’s perfectly suited for a platform bike rack like your Thule. Just keep in mind that Honda’s own tongue weight limits may be lower than the hitch itself, so always go by whichever rating is lower. My research tells me the CR-V is likely rated to 150lbs tongue weight just...
