Question:

What is the measurment from bottom of receiver to ground when installed on 2022 Pathfinder? Concerned about dragging low hanging receiver

Hey Kerry,

When we installed the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C46DR on a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder we found that it measured 13" from the ground to the top inside of the receiver (see attached photo). This means the bottom of the receiver will be about 10-3/4" above the ground when we account for the 2" receiver and the 1/4" of metal.

If that sits too low for your liking, then you might consider going with the EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH53SR instead. I know this hitch has a little bit of sticker shock added to it, but on this model the receiver is removeable so you can remove the receiver (and the ground clearance issue) when you aren't actually using it.

I don't tow often but I did get hitch receivers installed on my 2010 Equinox we used to have (RIP) and our current 2010 Town and Country. I don't like the thought of spending more money, but if ground clearance was a big concern of mine, I'd be willing to spend a little more so I don't have to think about hitting it on the ground whenever I'm pulling into my Church parking lot or the In-Law's driveway.

What are you planning on using the hitch receiver for?

My current 2012 Equinox receiver is 12" from bottom of receiver to ground. Has not been an issue dragging. The 10 3/4 of new hitch is only 1 1/4 " lower than my current receiver. Purchasing a 2022 Pathfinder but noticed the drop down receiver on the curt hitch on that model. Was concerned it could drag on uneven ground. Towing capacity will not be an issue. This hitch will only be used for towing light utility trailer for dump runs etc.

@Kfr In that case, I think you'll be good to go. The only time this would be an issue is turning into steeper driveways and things like that - in those situations you'll want to enter and exit at an angle for better ground clearance. It sounds like you've already got a ball mount, but you'll also need to get basic wiring so your trailer lights can operate. For that I recommend picking up the T-One # TK58VR and the mounting brackets # 18144 and # 18136. Check out the linked video for this wiring kit as well!
