Features to know about

Get More from Your Vehicle: Class III Strength and Everyday Versatility

This Curt trailer hitch receiver makes it easy to haul what you need, whether that’s a small utility trailer, a light camper, or a bike rack for weekend rides. With a 3,500-lb maximum gross trailer weight and a 350-lb tongue weight (or up to 5,000 lbs GTW and 500 lbs TW when used with weight distribution), it’s built to handle most day-to-day towing and gear-carrying needs. The 2" x 2" receiver opening means it works with the most common accessories like ball mounts, cargo carriers, and bike racks.

Solid Build That Lasts: Fully Welded Steel with Protective Coating

You can feel how solid this hitch is the moment you pick it up. The precision robotic welding gives it strength and consistent alignment, while the sturdy square-tube design adds a heavy-duty feel. A gloss black powder coat over a protective base coat keeps rust at bay and helps it hold up against years of weather and road grime.

Easy, Straightforward Install: Bolt-On Design with Included Hardware

This hitch bolts directly to your vehicle’s frame — no welding needed. It comes with the hardware kit and installation instructions so you can get the job done in your garage without special equipment. The mounting points line up cleanly for a precise fit, meaning less time under the vehicle and more time out using it.

Built for Real Use: Secure Fit for Bike Racks and Trailers

Owners love how simple it is to attach their racks or trailers to this hitch. It’s steady under load, lines up perfectly with factory holes, and stays tucked in for a clean look. Even though it’s not a hideaway style, it’s still discreet once installed — giving you solid towing capacity without taking away from your vehicle’s appearance.

by:

Perfect fitting product and relatively easy and I am very experienced. There is a little bit of trimming of the bumper cover to make it fit exactly right, but this can be done with a hack saw.

by:

Super easy and straight forward. Had the hitch installed in 20 minutes. No fuss. You will need a helping hand. A bit much for someone alone. We are always happy with Curt products. And like always, eTrailer is AWESOME!

by:

Thank you for the follow up. I love the trailer hitch exactly what I needed and it looks great.

by:

etrailer made it a simple process for a good price. They didn't have the hitch I ordered in stock and with a simple phone call the replacement hitch was on it's way with no issues.

by:

I bought this hitch for use with a bike rack on my Volvo XC90. It was very easy to install and works great. The online video instructions from eTrailer were very helpful.

by:

Installation was a bit of work but not too bad. Probably took 2hrs at most. It is a snug fit and you have to trim a bit of fascia out of the way. I am happy with the look and function of the receiver. Overall very satisfied.

by:

I installed on a 2004 volvo xc90. I watched install video went exactly as shown. Only hiccup was I had a bumper support that I had to trim/grind 1/8 of inch or so. Also if you are laying underneath car best having 2 people. I managed with a jack but wasn't easy.

by:

Fast Shipping. Fits and installs as ad vertised.

Works fine. No issues

by:

The product was of great value and construction. Instructions were simple and installation was easy. On the 2007 XC 90 we had to pop the rivets that hold a plastic piece of the bumper to keep it from virbrating. We did that, used zip ties with the same holes and wrapped around the bumper. I drove 600 miles and no noise. Excellent product.

by:

Installation of the hitch took 45 minutes in my driveway with hand tools and a jack, fit exactly as it should and the instructions offered ample detail.
The muffler on my particular model ended up sitting directly against the hitch but I don't foresee any issues and it could be easily remedied by a muffler shop for a few bucks.

by:

This hitch was perfect on my 2013 Volvo XC90 - we loved it and used it a lot! The guys at our local gas station and service garage installed it easily. We just sold our car, and unfortunately the hitch would not fit on our new car - this was the hardest thing to give up!

by:

Needed a tow hitch for xc90 to pull a car from Florida to Texas. Quality of products were too notch , shipping was fast, and installation was breeze. If I ever need another hitch for another vehicle. This is the only place I'm buying them from.

by:

Ordered the Curt hitch and T-tap wiring harness for the 2005 Volvo xc90. Everything shipped quickly and came packaged together. I appreciated the emails telling me when teh package shipped and tracking information. The hitch went in smoothly and without and problems. All hardware was included and the holes lined up perfectly. The wiring harness could not have been easier. simply unplug the existing light connections and snap the new harness inline. A cordless drill is a must to secure the ground screw, even though it is self tapping. The kit included everything I needed, including wire zip ties.
I would recommend etrailer.com to anyone looking for a hitch related product; good product and great online videos to walk you through an install.

by:

Ordering from etrailer.com was fast and easy. Received my hitch receiver in a couple of days. Installation was easy and instructions were straight forward. Took about an hour but would have been faster if I didn't mess around with trying to put the factory tie down back in place. I then decided to leave it off as it's not needed anyway with the hitch receiver installed. Fascia trimming was easy, I used oscillating multi tool. I did not remove the rubber exhaust hanger, i just unbolted the mount and rotated it out the way. Its a sturdy quality receiver.

by:

All parts arrived the next day. Everything fit per installation instructions. Wish everything I order online worked as well. Thanks again for carrying products made in USA.

Great. Made in America made even better

by:

I haven't been able to find a email related to the receiver hitch that I purchased from you and that is the item that I was considering writing the reviews for. When I received the box I didn't notice any damage but when I went to install it. It was bent and would not install.

Well it sounds to me like you have experienced a flexed hitch. This is very common when shipping hitches. We recommend using some sort of vise to bend the wings back into place. I have a link below for more information and your reference.

by:

The Curt hitch I bought from etrailer was a great price, shipped fast and I installed it in about 15 minutes. Great shopping experience.

by:

This is my second order from trailer in the past month. Not only is the customer service better than anywhere else, but the price is very competitive with other retailers. Packaging was very secure. Will deffinitley be ordering from these guys again!

The product was exactly as advertised. it worked perfectly for towing my jetski.

by:

Great product and price. This is a robust product with good welds and a good paint job. That’s what matters with a hitch right. You want it to last and look good. Very happy with the purchase.

by:

This is a beefy hitch receiver that works great and is much stronger than some of the more flimsy competitors. Installation took a little effort on my 2005 Volvo XC90, but very doable.

by:

Failed installation. Lowered muffler and removed tow eye on my 2013 xc90 , with right side two bolted left side bolt holes on hitch are 8mm too far inboard. Measuring width of the two sides of the hitch shows a 19mm difference. Package was in excellent shape so I suspect bad tolerance over damage. I will reach out to etrailer customer support.

by:

The hitch fit my 2011 XC90 perfectly. Instruction say to remove and replace the rubber muffler mount, but you don't have to fully remove it, just take the bolts out and rotate the whole mount straight down to the ground on its rubber. Then put up the hitch, and rotate the mount back up and put the bolts in. It was EASY! Also cutting out the XC90's plastic valance was no problem. You just draw a rectangle with a Sharpie. I used a sawzall, but a hacksaw or even tinsnips could do a good job. Cutout is about 2 inches by 5 inches and it's below the car, the cut area is not visible at all. I included a pic.

by:

The hitch is heavy duty and fit perfectly as advertised. I also bought the bed extension adapter and I turned my SUV into a truck. etrailer has great products and great people! I'm a customer for life.

by:

I've bought numerous hitches and accessories from etrailer and Curt and have always liked the quality. With this hitch, however the square receiver is a little bit off of being truly perpendicular to the hitch frame. It's about 1/8" but noticeable when in my bench prior to install. It obviously slipped past the QC people. I did not have time to return it but want to let them know in the interest of improving their product and your reputation.
Thx Bill!

Amazing value! Great piece of kit!
Very
well made and simple to install. Comes with hardware and instructions.
This is a fraction of the cost of the a factory receiver. Attaches to the factory mounting points. And has a higher tow rating than the factory hitch receiver. The factory receiver is a hideaway, but you sacrifice towing capacity.
This, though not a hideaway, is pretty discreet and has better towing capacity.

I did have the luxury of using a lift during my install, and did my brakes at the same time. Removal of the rear tires isn't necessary to install this hitch receiver.

One year later: Still doing well. I pulled a 6x12 dual axle U-Haul trailer from South Carolina to Florida, about an 8.5 hour drive. Everything went really well. This receiver is well made and handles everything weve thrown at it, so far. Highly recommended for a 1st Gen XC90.

  • Best Trailer Hitch for a 2004 Volvo XC70
I do have a trailer hitch receiver that will fit your 2004 Volvo XC70 but it has a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening, not a 2" receiver tube opening. They do not make one with such for your Volvo and the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13559 that you referenced will not fit. The correct trailer hitch I recommend for you is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C12318 which as previously mentioned has a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. The 1-1/4" receiver tube opening however can still do mostly...

Hey Ryan, The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75152 is on extended backorder with no expected in-stock date so it's harder to find on the site to prevent people from purchasing it and then being disappointed that they have to wait forever. The etrailer # e45KR and Curt # 13559 are the only two options that we currently have available. • Can Trailer Hitch from 2010 Volvo XC60 Be Used on 2012 XC90?
We do have a hitch fit for the 2012 Volvo XC90, but unfortunately the 2010 Volvo XC60 and and a 2012 XC90 use different hitches. For the 2012 XC90, I'd recommend the Curt Class IIl hitch, part # 13559. If you'll be towing with the hitch, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness, part # 118411, a # C45010 ball mount and for a trailer ball, use # 40038 for a 1-7/8 or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.

Hey Randy, The 2 hitches offered for your 2008 Volvo XC90 are very similar with 1 main difference. The Curt # 13559 and the etrailer # e45KR are going to offer the same 350lb tongue weight capacity and 3,500lb towing capacity. In terms of what they are capable of, it is the same.
