Video Transcript for Valterra StayPut Tandem Trailer Tire Changing Ramp Feature Review

Hi, I'm Matt with etrailer. Today we're gonna talk about Valerra's StayPut, a changing tire ramp. This will be nice because it's gonna work with your tandem axle, where you'll drive up on one side and that'll let you have this second tire. It'll be a little bit loose so you can actually change it. Now today we aren't gonna be focusing on how to change a tire. What we will be focusing is on some of the main specs about this, what it's gonna be like to use, and how to use this properly and safely.

Now if you are curious about this, if you have any questions, just let us know at etrailer. And if you do decide to go with it, just let us know in either a comment or review on what your experience is like and what type of sticky situations this has got you out of. So let's start with specs. There's really not gonna be too much to it. So this is gonna be rated for 15,000 pounds.

So just make sure your trailer's gonna work with that. Now also keep in mind that that's not gonna be the full weight of your trailer on here. We're only using about half that weight right here. So pretty much most trailers should be fine with this. Now for the width of it, it's gonna be a little bit over eight inches.

So keep that in mind when you are pulling your tires on here. If your tires are extra wide, then they might not fit, but just double check that measurement. As for the total height this is gonna give you, that's gonna be five and a half inches. It's a decent amount. As you can see right here with my other tire, it's loose, it's still kind of free rolling.

If you have some extra large tires, it might not lift off the ground. So again, just double check the size of your tires. Be free to go on with this. Now, before I actually start using this, let me show off some of the details of it. So you notice here at the very edge, we're gonna have a little bit of grit. And I actually recommend, once you're using this, to push this up against the tire as much as possible. It's gonna help you out along the way. And then this is going to ride up and we're gonna have these circular nibs that help you with that process, give you more traction. And then once you get to the very top, this is what I like the most, is this is essentially just cradling your tire right here. Other styles, you'll see that they're just one kind of continuous shape. And with that continuous shape it's a lot easier to just overdrive and then fall off of the ramp. So let's actually start using this. Now there's really not too much to it. Now I do have a couple tips for you. So when you initially start to use it, just make sure you push it up against your tire as much as possible. The reason why I say that is on the bottom side of this, we're gonna have some teeth that are gonna grip into the ground when you use this. Now I will say when I was attempting to use this, I didn't have it quite pressed up against my tire and it actually skidded this across the ground. It tore it up just a little bit, but it is still very much usable. This would be more ideal if you're on a little bit more rough terrain. Now when I actually put it on, we wanna make sure once this is in place, it's as centered as possible with our tire. Make sure it's lined up properly. And then I'm gonna make sure I loosen up the lug nuts on the tire that I want to replace. Not the one that's about to get rolled up here. Once that's done, then we can pull up a trailer. And now I'm gonna start rolling up on it and we're gonna talk about how that process feels. So I'm just slowly going up here. That is really the key with this. We don't wanna go up too fast. I've done it a few times. I've noticed when you go up too fast, it kind of just scoots out from underneath you, especially if you're on a more of a paved surface because it just won't have too much to grab onto. And from that point you can start chalking up your tires on another sign and take off your old tire. Something else that might help you out with that process, this is something that you can very much do by yourself, but I have a spotter on hand is always gonna help be pretty helpful for the most part. But this one is probably gonna be one of the least required ones to have a spotter for. So in my opinion, I think it's a pretty solid option for the reasons I said earlier. And what I like most about it is, since it does have that cradle at the top, it just gives me more assurance to make sure it is gonna stay put and in place. But I don't think this is gonna be the best one for the job all the time. Now another one I have is gonna be one by Anderson and that's gonna be the Rapid Ramp. And what I like about this one is it's that other side I was talking about, where it's a little bit easy to drive too far but if you have a spotter for it, it can make it pretty doable. But why I think this one is a little bit of a better one for today's use is gonna be because it comes with this rubber pad. And this rubber pad goes a long way on paved surfaces. This be less likely of scooting away from you. Today we did have this scoot away from us a couple times, so I think if we we inchesre on more of a rough surface, whether it was gravel, dirt, I think this one would shine a little bit, not more. So I think it's really gonna depend on what type of environment you mainly driving in. But that was just a look at the StayPut Tire Changing Ramp. I'm Matt, thanks for watching.
