Exactly what I needed to clear my H2 Hummer spare tire! Very heavy duty product, quick shipping.

by:

I had a problem with my order, which called for the order to be sent again. I received the second order in two days, which was greatly appreciated! The items I received were exactly what I wanted and high quality. The customer service to fix my order problem was excellent!

by:

Worked great ! Solved problem opening tailgate on jeep tj with spare tire mounted. Opens enough to reach in .

by:

Thank you for your email, I was amazed how quick I received my item. Just bought a newtruck I tow an atv and on my old truck I dented up my tailgate from the device that lowers and raises the trailer, this extender did the trick, now the tailgate on my new truck won't get all screwed up.

by:

Exactly what I wanted. Solid Shank with 350lb support. Quick shipping. Thanks for providing a quality product.

by:

Just what it says fits great. eTrailer is fast and easy as always. Great experience shopping with.

Hasnt given me any problems yet

by:

This product is well built and quality! It allows me to use the hitch platform on my Jeep liberty without having to remove the spare tire. Exactly what I was looking for and a quick delivery as well! Great investment.

by:

It is pretty long so works well with exterior spare tire vehicles or if you want access to truck tailgates down with load extenders. Have not used it in that capacity as of yet.

by:

I order a 14" steel (2" type) hitch extension and I received a heavy steel, well-made extension; as advertised. eTrailer found that upgraded faster shipping was available at the same price as regular slower shipping, so they upgraded me. Very nice service!

by:

The weld looks solid, but needs ground down, or the hole drilled in a different location. The weld prevented the holes to line up. I had to go get a grade 5 1/2" bolt to secure it in place, rather than a hitch pin.

by:

Works as expected. I’m happy with the q uality.

by:

This extender does a pretty good job of keeping my bike away from the rear radar system in my Venza so the backup warning system does not engage in error. Beware it’s pretty heavy.

Still working as a year ago.

by:

This hitch adapter has worked perfectly as an extension for using a bike rack that extends past the trailer spare tire.

by:

The items I ordered will allow me to adapt my utility trailer for transporting my sea kayaks. Curt and Hopkins are both quality manufacturers.
On a shipping note, the box arrived at the Post Office broken wide open. Your shipping folks need to wrap small, heavy, items in bubble wrap. Then stabilize it with foam peanuts. Just putting it in a box then stuffing the box with craft paper does not cut it. Items were not damaged so I am good to go.

by:

Super good

by:

Curt’s brand, only the best! USA made, The shaft that goes into the hitch is solid steel not the hollow China crap. I used the hitch extension to make a rear hitch step 12” wide by 38” long for my ford van. I strap my kayaks on top for when we go camping this step just gives me that need height to get them in the kayak saddles before I climb on top to tie them down. I put two kayaks on top so the 38” across comes in handy. With my front hitch I can also put it in the front when I’m working on my van or truck to give me that extra hieght - I’m 6’ and I can’t reach a lot of stuff, even cleaning the windshield.

by:

I have a Can Am Defender and the actual hitch is up under the back end so when I hooked up a trailer, I couldn't raise or lower the trailer without the crank handle hitting the tail gate, now I have plenty clearance and I love it.

by:

Great customer service. Item is exactly as described and works well.

by:

Thank you for processing my order and getting it quickly shipped to Alaska.

by:

Work just the way I hoped. I now can open the back door of my Bronco with the trailer hook up.

by:

perfect length for my specific application. Because the end piece is solid I was not able to insert an anti-rattle device into it. Therefore I will probably weld the extender to the double receiver since it'll be a permanent application.

by:

Works great and reasonably priced. etrailer Customer Service is absolutely the very best. My first shipment arrived missing the hitch extension. Customer Service quickly responded to my communications and shipped a replacement the same day.
As you can see from the photo the hitch extender is perfect for my Polaris Ranger and allows me to use my small lawn n yard implements.
I highly recommend etrailer.

by:

Works great! Does exactly what it’s supposed to do!

by:

Over the years I’ve talked to several different people at etrailer. They have always been very helpful. It’s refreshing to talk to a real person.

  • Can Hitch Extension Help Allow Truck to Lower Tailgate When Towing
A hitch extension does cut your trailer hitch capacity by 50 percent, but for as light of a trailer as you have and how heavy duty your tow vehicle is that wouldn't be an issue. So yes, a 14 inch hitch extension like the # C45795 would be a solid choice to allow you to drop your tailgate!

  • Recommended Hitch Extender to Clear a Spare Tire on a Thor Tellaro Motorhome
Hey David. You definitely need a hitch extender not a swing away. Those aren't for towing, only accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. To clear the spare tire on your Thor Tellaro, I have a couple of options depending on how long of an extension you need and how heavy your trailer is. I recommend the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers item # C76DR if an 8" extension will get you clear of the spare tire and your trailer weighs up to 3,500 lbs. It has a 350 lbs tongue...

This will not be long enough to even clear your bumper with some of the hitches available for your 2014 Honda Odyssey as you can see in the attached video. Yes, in order to carry a bike rack or cargo carrier on the rear of your 2018 Jay Flight SLX 184BS I highly recommend the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13702 which is specifically designed for trailers and RV's and will give you a 2" receiver tube opening. As long as the frame rails on your Jay Flight do not measure to be more than 51" apart outside to outside then this hitch will be perfect for you. Please keep in mind that bike racks used on the back of a trailer will...

  • Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier For Sprinter RV With Rear Mounted Spare Tire
We do offer some hitch-mounted carriers that may work for you on the back of your Sprinter RV. Using an extender in any hitch will reduce the weight carrying capacity of the hitch by 50 percent so we do not typically recommend using those. One carrier you might want to check out is the Pro Series Cargo Carrier, part # 63153. This carrier's outside dimension are 61-1/2 inches long x 25-1/2 inches wide x 5-1/2 inches tall. • Will The Swagman XC2 Fit With The Spare Tire On A 2017 Jeep Wrangler?
The measurement from the center of the hitch pin to the closest hoop is 10 inches. Measure from the center of your hitch pin to the end of the spare tire. If that measurement is less than 10 inches then you will be fine. If not you want to get an extender like # C45795. If I owned a Wrangler, I would get a swing away system like the Kuat Pivot # PVP20B. This will allow you to have FULL access to the back of your jeep!

  • Is There A Standard Size for a 2 Inch Receiver
As you've discovered, a 2 inch receiver doesn't always measure exactly two inches by two inches. There is a manufacturing tolerance involved that allows the receiver to be a few hundredths of an inches larger or smaller than 2 inches, but still be within tolerance. Due to the fact that the connection between a hitch receiver and the shank of a ball mount or hitch mounted accessory isn't meant to be a precision fit, the tolerances are generous. These tolerances are common in manufactured...

From the center of the hitch pin hole this rack is 7 inches to the closest part of the rack when in position to carry bikes and when folded is 5 inches to closest part. This is an excellent bike rack, so I recommend using the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795. • How Much Does Hitch Extender Reduce Tongue Weight Capacity
The answer is actually pretty simple, because using any type of hitch adapter, including a hitch extender, reduces the capacity of your trailer hitch by 50 percent, and that includes both the towing capacity and the tongue weight capacity. I am not certain what the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on your 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 is, but using the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 14" Long # C45795 or the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Receivers -18" Long # C45796 will reduce that...

The Curt is only rated for 3,500lbs of trailer weight and 350lbs of tongue weight. It also only comes with a 1-year warranty. For weight the Gen-Y only weighs 16lbs while the Curt weighs 18lbs.

  • Solution for Clearing Spare Tire on Jeep Wrangler for Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
We do have a large selection of hitch extenders that are designed for exactly the situation you described in your question. The particular extender you choose will depend on how much distance you are needing in order to clear the spare tire on your Jeep Wrangler.
