Features to know about

Elevate Your Ride: 5-Inch Rise Hitch Adapter

If you're dealing with low ground clearance on your vehicle, the Hitch Adapter with a 5-inch rise is a game-changer. This adapter lifts your cargo or bike rack, providing ample clearance to navigate dips and driveways without scraping. It's a straightforward solution that brings peace of mind when carrying loads on vehicles like sedans and hatchbacks.

Expand Your Options: 1-1/4" to 2" Receiver Conversion

Many smaller vehicles are equipped with 1-1/4-inch hitches that limit accessory use. This adapter converts a 1-1/4-inch receiver to a standard 2-inch receiver, vastly expanding your options for accessories. Whether you need to attach a cargo carrier or bike rack, this conversion opens up the possibilities for larger and more varied gear.

Built for Versatility: Hollow Shanks for Adaptability

Both shanks have unique features with the 1-1/4" being solid, while the 2" is hollow, providing distinct benefits. This design meets various towing needs, making it suitable for different accessories while maintaining a snug fit.

Perfect for the Road: Lightweight But Solid Design

Don't let its lightweight nature fool you; this hitch adapter is built solid. Crafted to handle up to 300 lbs of tongue weight, it helps reduce the stress on your vehicle. It's perfect for those who need sturdy support without extra bulk.

Enhanced Ground Interaction: Class I and II Compatibility

This adapter is thoughtfully designed to fit Class I and II hitches, making it a versatile choice for small cars and SUVs. It ensures that even vehicles typically limited by hitch class can benefit from extended hitch functionality.

Travel in Style: Powder-Coated Black Finish

Not only is this hitch adapter functional, it's also stylish with its sleek, powder-coated black finish. The durable coat ensures long-lasting use while adding a touch of elegance to your vehicle's hitch setup. It's a small detail, but it adds a layer of sophistication and durability to your travel adventures.

Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise

Today we'll be taking a look at the Brophy Hitch Adapter, 1 1/4 to 2 inch trailer hitch receiver with a 5 inch rise, part number HT5R. The Brophy Hitch Adapter is going to allow you to convert your Class I and II 1 1/4 inch receiver to your 2 inch receiver, allowing you to use any 2 inch accessory. It offers a 5 inch rise, giving us more ground clearance here at the rear of the vehicle for our accessories. We're using a cargo carrier with our adapter here today, but it's also going to work great for your bike racks or any other 2 inch accessories. Now please keep in mind when using this adapter, it does cut your tongue weight capacity in half. It is not recommended for towing use, so no ball mounts. This is a much more economical solution than having two bike racks or two cargo carriers for multiple vehicles and it's definitely cheaper than purchasing a different hitch.

In addition to the rise, it gives us a 7 inch extension. It's also made out of a sturdy steel construction with a black powder coat finish, so it's going to stand up to the elements. It has a 300 pound weight capacity. It's an extraordinarily easy installation. We've got our adapter plugged into our 1 1/4 inch receiver and our accessory plugged into our adapter. The pin and clips are sold separately from the hitch adapter, so you'll need to pick some up here at etrailer.com.

Here at the adapter end, we've got a PC3, this is going to be our 5/8th pin and clip. Here at the hitch end, we've got a PC2, that's going to be our 1/2 inch pin and clip. That's going to complete our look at the Brophy Hitch Adapter, 1 1/4 to 2 inch trailer hitch receiver with a 5 inch rise, part number HT5R.

  • 1-1/4" to 2" Hitch Adapter For Bike Rack On A 2011 Toyota Camry With The Draw-Tite 36416 Hitch
Hello Richard. We do have an adapter, the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R which may work very well for you. This will go in to the 1-1/4" receiver on your Camry and give you a 2" receiver with 5" of rise. It is very important to note that when using this kind of adapter, the weight capacity of your hitch will be reduced by 50%. This means that your Draw-Tite # 36416 hitch will only be able to carry 150 lbs of tongue weight. This is including the weight of the adapter (8 lbs) plus the weight...

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring and Ball Mount for 2017 Ford Mustang
There is a potential way for you to haul an electric wheelchair with a 2017 Ford Mustang, although there is not an adapter that is going to work. The reason for that is there is just one 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter with rise that works with a Class I hitch, and that adapter, the Brophy # HT5R, has a 5 inch rise, which doesn't meet your needs. Additionally, the use of any adapter will reduce the weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent, and since there are only Class I hitches with a...

  • What is the Bumper Clearance Measurement of the Draw-Tite # 24920 and the Curt # C11406?
Great questions! When choosing between the Draw-Tite Hitch 1-1/4" # 24920 and the Curt Hitch - 1-1/4" # C11406 for your 2019 Honda Fit, the bumper clearance measurements we have are the result of our install team's specs when they install the hitches on different vehicles; the manufacturers don't provide us with that information. The great news is that we have both bumper clearance measurements for both hitches when installed on your 2019 Honda Fit. I've attached the install videos that...

  • Recommended Hitch Adapter for a 1 1/4" Hitch and a 2" Bike Rack
Hey Lutz, 8-10" is quite a big ask. The closest I was able to find is the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R which will go into a 1 1/4" receiver and convert it to a 2" and also give you 5" of rise. Please note that whenever you use a hitch adapter that your hitch's capacity is cut by 50%. If there is anything else I can help you with, please feel free to let me know in the comments and I'd be happy to help!

  • 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Adapter for Bike Rack on 2008 MazdaSPEED3
We have exactly what you need, although technically the adapter will not turn the Class I hitch into a Class II hitch, it will simply give your 2008 MazdaSPEED3 a 2" receiver. The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R will convert your Mazda's Class I, 1-1/4" receiver into a 2" receiver and will also give you 5" of rise. This adapter will also reduce your hitch capacity by 50 percent, so if you had the Draw-Tite # 24816 hitch, for example, its maximum tongue...

  • Does etrailer Sell a 1 1/4" to 1 1/4" High to Low Adapter
Hey Glenn, unfortunately we do not. We have high to low adapters like the Brophy Hitch Adapter # HT5R which is a 1 1/4" to 2" adapter, but nothing that goes from 1 1/4" to 1 1/4". I'd instead recommend measuring your rise and drop to find out what you need, and order a ball mount that has the rise/drop you need, that way you don't need the adapter. I've attached a quick FAQ which goes into how you can measure your rise/drop for you to check out. If you need a little help after you've...

  • 1-1/4 Inch to 2 Inch Inch Hitch Adapter With Rise That has Most Clearance
The 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter with rise that has the most clearance from the pin hole to the back of the adapter is the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R. This adapter is approximately 3-3/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the adapter. So there is nothing that is 4 inches with a rise, and the use of any adapter will reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. So for example if you had a 2019 Buick LaCrosse with...

Yes, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11076 is a confirmed fit for your 2000 Volkswagen Passat Wagon with 4Motion so long as you do not have the 4.0L W8 engine. If you do have the 4.0L W8 engine then we would not have a trailer hitch for this vehicle and you would need to reach out to your local dealer. I have attached an install photo and video for you on a similar Volkswagen Passat Wagon with 4Motion.

  • Is there a 2 inch Hitch for a 2012 Toyota Camry?
Hey Jim! I checked with all of our vendors and I am sorry but the only hitches available for the 2012 Toyota Camry are class II ones with 1-1/4" receivers like the Curt item # C12107. This hitch has a 300 lbs tongue weight capacity but you'll need to use an adapter like the item # HT5R for a wheel chair carrier. The issue with any adapter is it cuts your hitches capacity by 50% so you're only left with 150 lbs to spread out amongst the chair and carrier.

  • Hitch Adapter to Raise Bike Rack
There are no hitch adapters that offer just rise for a 1-1/4" hitch. What bike rack do you have? If it is one we carry we may be able to find you something to convert it to a 2" rack, or there is also the possibility of a new rack with a shank that has rise. If you let me know what rack you have I may be able to find a solution for you.

  • Recommended Hitch Extender for Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch and 2 Inch Bike Rack
The Draw-Tite # 24857 for your 2008 BMW is only rated for Class I. This means the only options to have your bike rack fit are the # HTAD or the # HT5R that are compatible with Class I hitches. You will limit the 200 lb tongue weight capacity of your hitch to 100 lbs because the adapter will reduce the hitch's tongue weight by 50%. That new 100 lb capacity will need to include the weight of your bike carrier as well as the loaded bikes. I also recommend using a hitch lock like # e98880...

The maximum tongue weight of this adapter is 300 pounds. Please be aware when using any hitch adapter the tongue weight capacity of your hitch will be decreased by 50 percent. According to Brophy, the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 to 2 inch Adapter # HT5R the weight capacity of the adapter will exceed the weight capacity of the 1-1/4 inch hitch. Therefore the capacity of the hitch will be the limiting factor. For example if the hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 300 pounds then the hitch adapter...

  • Which Brands of Class I Hitch for 2014 Toyota Corolla Have Internal Stopper Tab
Curt Class I hitches like # C11265 do not have the internal stopper that is present on other brands of hitch like the Draw-Tite # 24913 and Hidden Hitch models. Keep in mind that use of any hitch adapter/extender, such as Brophy # HT5R, will reduce your hitch capacity by 50-percent. So a Class I hitch rated for 200-lbs of tongue weight will have only a 100-lb TW when used with any adapter.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver For Carrying 2" Bike Rack With a 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid

This adapter has a 5" rise that will help you gain additional ground clearance for your bike rack to clear driveways and curbs. The adapter will reduce the weight rating by 50% lowering the receiver tongue weight from 350lbs to 175lbs. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118763 will give you a 4-way connector. • Kuat Sherpa Bike Rack Partially Melted from Exhaust When Folded
You could use an adapter like the Roadmaster # RM-070 to achieve a 4 inch rise, which would work pretty well for you. Keep in mind that using an extender/adapter like this will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50% due to the fact that the adapter would move the load further away from the vehicle and exert additional leverage on the hitch and its attachment points to the vehicle.

  • Which Adapter to Use 2 Inch Hitch Mounted Accessories in a Class I 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Receiver
I'm assuming you're needing an adapter that would allow you to use an accessory for a 2 inch hitch in the 1-1/4 inch Draw-Tite # 24882 on your Chevy Cruze. We offer 2 adapters that are compatible with a Class I hitch like what you have. The CR Brophy # HT5R would provide a 5 inch rise for additional ground clearance and their # HTAD is a straight adapter. Using either adapter will reduce the 200 lb tongue weight (maximum amount of downward force that can safely be applied to the hitch)...

  • Can Two Hitch Extenders Be Used Together
The thing about hitch extenders is that with each one you use you end up cutting the hitch's capacity in half. Since you would be using two of them you would end up cutting the capacity by 75 percent. When you combine that with the fact that the # HT5R specifically states that you shouldn't use it with any other hitch extenders I can not recommend you use this setup. If you can get by with just using the # HT5R or just the # hes6 and would still have the needed capacity after being reduced...

  • Recommended Hitch Adapter for 1.25" Hitches
Yes, you can use a hitch adapter like this one from Brophy # HTAD which fits into a 1-1/4" hitch receiver and has a 2" receiver on the other end. If you want an adapter with a rise, there's also # HT5R which gives you a lift of 5 inches. The main issue with hitch adapters though is that they reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50%. That means if your hitch used to have a 250lb weight capacity, whenever you use the hitch adapter you now have 125 lbs to work with. Just keep that in mind...

  • What Do You Recommend for Adding Rise to Have a Higher Ground Clearance for a Cargo Carrier?
I have a solution for you. When it comes to hitch adapters that provide rise to your trailer hitch for your cargo carrier, we only carry adapters that add rise for 2-inch hitch receivers. However, with that being said, we do carry adapters that enable you to carry 2-inch accessories on a 1-1/4 inch receiver that add rise.
