1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Adapter for Bike Rack on 2008 MazdaSPEED3

Published 06/26/2018

Question:

Thanks, Kyle! I had seen that but I was concerned that it would not be long enough since once the hitch is mounted the Mazdaspeed3 needs close to 6" to clear the lower bumper diffuser since the hitch is recessed. I'll have to measure again when I get home, but it looks like this riser only has 2.5" from the hole on the hitch the point where the rise starts and I'm afraid that will not be enough.

We have exactly what you need, although technically the adapter will not turn the Class I hitch into a Class II hitch, it will simply give your 2008 MazdaSPEED3 a 2" receiver.

The Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver with 5" Rise # HT5R will convert your Mazda's Class I, 1-1/4" receiver into a 2" receiver and will also give you 5" of rise. This adapter will also reduce your hitch capacity by 50 percent, so if you had the Draw-Tite # 24816 hitch, for example, its maximum tongue weight would be 100 lbs. For your particular set-up this will not be a problem seeing as how your rack and bike together weigh less than 70 lbs, but I did want to mention it should you ever want to haul more than one bike.

Happy to try and help, but if Hitch Adapter # HT5R does NOT extend far enough, you need Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HTAD which does not have a rise, but is the only other adapter that will work with a Class I hitch. Like with the previous adapter, this one will reduce your tongue weight by 50 percent, and the other thing to keep in mind is that with this adapter your bike rack cannot be more than 3-3/8" long from the center of its hitch pin hole to the end of the shank. Additionally, you will need Pin and Clip # PC2 to hold the adapter into place on your 1-1/4" receiver.
