Question:
Hi Bob, thanks so much, this is super helpful. I do have a follow up. I want to use a cargo carrier that I already have for light loads, but its for a 2 receiver. Your item #HT5R, a Brophy expander adapter with a 5 rise, looks like it will do nicely. It will enable me to use the carrier while at the same time also lifting it a little further off the pavement, which is very helpful on this car. So I dont really need the most clearance, I just need enough for this combo. In fact less might be better to have the hitch more recessed when not in use. From that adapters item page it looks like either hitch will do. Those drawings suggest a max pinhole to bumper distance of 3-5/8. The Curt might be cutting it close, but with some curve in the bottom of the bumper it should accommodate the adapter, even with that angled 45 deg. tab thing. What do you guys think? Please take a look. What is your recommendation in this particular context? Thank you!!!

Great questions! When choosing between the Draw-Tite Hitch 1-1/4" # 24920 and the Curt Hitch - 1-1/4" # C11406 for your 2019 Honda Fit, the bumper clearance measurements we have are the result of our install team's specs when they install the hitches on different vehicles; the manufacturers don't provide us with that information. The great news is that we have both bumper clearance measurements for both hitches when installed on your 2019 Honda Fit. I've attached the install videos that go over these different lengths. The measurements are as follows:
- Draw-Tite # 24920: 3 inches from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outside face of your rear bumper
- Curt # C11406: 3-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pinhole to the outside face of your rear bumper
With these two measurements, the Draw-Tite installs 1/2 inch closer to the bumper. When an expert says that a hitch has "better bumper clearance," they mean that the hitch is installed closer to the bumper. With this in mind, I recommend the Draw-Tite over the Curt if you are going for better bumper clearance.
If you are looking for an accessory that is compatible with the hitch you choose, feel free to respond to this answer with your accessory needs, and I will guide you to the right product(s).
