Jeff Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Taylor Made 12 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat hatch lid or compartment door. It's designed to extend to ease lifting your hatch lid and it will compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It is a nice heat treated steel construction, which is very durable, has a nice corrosion resistant coating. So it won't rust, even in saltwater areas, and it installs onto a 10 millimeter ball socket.
It is a ball and socket installation. Attaches to the ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch. Just sort of zoom in and show you what we're talking about. If you look on each end, you can see there's where it connects to the ball, same way on this end. And it's very easy, very easy to install.
There's no special tools required. All you really need is a small flat tip screwdriver. And what you'll do is after you remove your old strut and you're ready to put this new one on, you'll take your little screw flat tip screwdriver and stick it right under the clip. They have a clip here that goes around half of the end here. So you just put the flat tip screwdriver under, pry open that clip, and you don't have to remove the clip, just pry it up enough to where it releases the pressure.
And then what you'll do is do the same on the other end. And then once you get it over the ball, just put it on the ball, push it onto the ball, and then push that clip down. Once you push that clip down, it'll lock it onto the ball and you're all ready to go do the same on the other end. Now, when installing this strut you want this inner rod to be facing down, and it is always recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. Now the length on this we're going to measure is from the center of this ball hole, or socket, to the center of this ball socket.
So if we get a ruler and go center to center. It's right at 12 inches. Compression force on this is 20 pounds and it is for a quantity of one strut. But that should do it for the review on the Taylor Made 12 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches..
