Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the tailor-made 17 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatches. How this gas strust is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat, hatch lid, or even on your compartment door. It'll extend the ease lifting of your hatch lid and it compresses to gently close your hatch without slamming. It has a heat treated steel construction, which makes it very durable. It has a nice corrosion resistant coating on it, so it won't rust even in saltwater areas. It easily installs in minutes, there's no special tools required.
It's basically a ball and socket installation. Each end will attach to ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch or compartment door. Now, when you do install this, you want to make sure this inner rod is always facing down and it is recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. The connection type on this is they fit onto a 10 millimeter ball socket and the way you install them. Actually, the way you'll take off the old one is you get a flat tip screwdriver, stick it under this clip on each end, and then you pry open that clip. You don't have to remove the clip, you just pry it open and it releases the pressure in the ball socket there.
You can take the one end off, do it on this end, take that bolt off.And then, to put the new one on, same way. You'll just put the screwdriver tip under the clip, raise it up. You don't have to pull it off, just raise it up. And then, you'll just push that onto the ball, and then once it's on the ball, push that clip down, it'll secure it into place. Now, the length on this is 17 inches. The length is always measured from the center of one ball socket to the center of the other.
So, you can see center to center is right at 17 inches. Compression force on this is 20 pounds and it is for a quantity of one strut. That should do it for the review on this tailor-made 17 inch long steel gas strut for the boat hatches.
