Video Transcript for An In-Depth Look at the Taylor Made Marine Gas Strut for Boat Hatches-3691876-80

Ellen: Hey, everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and we're going to be taking a look at the replacement gas strut. This is an 80-pound capacity, 15-inch strut to replace a broken or damaged one or one that's just worn out and not working effectively, either on your boat, for your motor home or RV, or really any other application that you might need this guy. Basically, it's just going to lift that door or compartment to allow you to load in your equipment, take things out, and not have it whack you in the back of the head or smash your hand or anything like that. So, very important.Take a little closer look at it. It is going to have the socket attachment points.

These are going to be 10-millimeter ball socket attachments. There is a little bit of an adjustment here on the one end. You can thread this out, so if it's not quite 15 inches, you do have a little bit of wiggle room also to adjust the angle between those two ends so you can get it dialed in where you need it to go. This 15 inches is measured from those two attachment points. Let's grab my handy-dandy tape measure and take a look at that.

So you can see from about center to center, that's going to give us 15 inches. This is also when it's expanded all the way, so it'll compress smaller than this, but whenever you take your measurement, you want to do it from your door to the frame when it's open. So that's where you're going to get your measurement from.Again, the compression force for this is 80 pounds. The construction of this is going to be a heat-treated steel with a corrosion resistant coating. So you don't have to worry about this rusting, even in saltwater applications.

It's going to be great for marine use, but also everyday use. RVs and other vehicles encounter a lot of salt as well on the roads, so it's a good idea to have something that is corrosion resistant, because rust is not our friend. Most of the time.Anyway, this is going to be about all there is to it for this. Should be a pretty straightforward install. I hope this video's been helpful in deciding if this is the right one for you.

If not, we do have other struts available in different lengths and also in different compression ratings. So check those out here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching. We'll see you next time.

Needed to replace several boat hatch struts on a 2008 cruiser. etrailer had the right parts and the phone support to help me sort my older boat. Well done.

Worked well to replace cabin door hatch lid strut on a 2005 Hydra Sports 212 WA. Had to move the top mount back about 3/4" to allow the lid to close completely, but when the original part is no longer available, this is the way to go.

I used them to make a lift system for a pontoon rear lid. I rebuiilt a 1988 pontoon. The Gas Struts make it much eaiser!!!

Did a bit of research on how to install these shocks via [online video] and ordered this product and installed in my rod lockers. Great products all around, was offered support but did not need it (got lucky). I need to fish more but so far so awesome.

2008 Grady White boat needed a new hatch lift. Boat manufacturers are not like automobile manufacturers, and many times the customer is on his own to find older parts. This was a perfect fit for the worn out gas strut. Even thought the force was 10 pounds lighter than the original part, it works fine. I was most pleased as the size and connectors fitted perfectly to effect a quick sure fix.

Replaced a hatch strut on a 2015 Stingray. Exact match and perfect fit.

by:

These struts worked phenomenal. I should have added them to our food trailer years ago. We retrofitted a 1972 Shasta Go Tag Along trailer and used real pine wood for a nice warm look. The side windows we cut into her were made of 2x4, plywood and pine wood. They were extremely heave and difficult to open. The struts were added and now they slowly open with by themselves. They are easy to close and only take one hand. Should have added them years ago!!

Exact match for a compartment door on a 2016 Unity Leisure Travel van. Speedy shipping as well.

by:

This gas strut for our boat hatch works perfectly. I received this faster than I thought I would and it was very well packaged. I have ordered things before from etrailer and have always had great results and service! I'm sure there will be other things I will need down the road for our boat...after all...you know what BOAT stands for don't you? It stands for "Bring Out Another Thousand"! :) When it comes to anything else I need....this IS the company I will order from.
Thank you etrailer for your service.

by:

Comparing this to the usual steel gas strut is like day and night. Seems well made, and looks great. More important is my review if etrailer. When my order did not arrive, I sent them email. Shortly, I was notified that it was being tracked. When tracking did not find it, I emailed etrailer again. They expedited delivery of a replacement.

by:

perfect for my toolbox lid.

by:

The struts work great on my motorhome. Customer service was very good when I bought the wrong ones the first time! Thanks etrailer

by:

They were returned due to the wrong size ball mounts. Customer service was nothing short of excellent.

by:

Just what I needed

by:

These worked well for my project. I was putting a concession stand style hatch in the basement wall that separates our play area from the living area. It took some research and a few tries to get them installed at the correct angle. I wanted the hatch to almost, but not quite touch the ceiling.

by:

Worked great on our boat hatch. Always a great experience using etrailer.com when purchasing items for our truck and boat.

by:

Shock worked great on my Ranger bass boat.
I

by:

As always, etrailer delivers a great customer experience. In this case, not only worth a fastest, but in this case they were the only supplier I could find for this particular product, which is usually European.

They always get me my stuff quickly, and I use their website websites videos constantly to purchase and install travel related items. They are welcome discovery in my life.
