Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most lids, covers, or hatches have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Universal Gas Strut Lift Support Arm. This is gonna replace one lift support arm on your truck cover, boat hatch, toolbox, or other application. This will extend to hold the lid or hatch open, so you're not gonna have to worry about it closing when you don't want it to, and it's also gonna provide a little bit of assistance as you're lifting in it, and this is going to then also gently compress while closing, so you're not gonna have to worry about getting your fingers or gears smashed as you're closing your hatch. This does have these 10 millimeter nylon ball socket connectors that will fit right onto your original 10 millimeter ball fittings or ball studs. You snap right in place and give you a nice firm connection.
Our overall length here from one ball socket to the other is just slightly over 10 inches, call it 10 1/16 of an inch. Our compressed length here, when we are able to compress it, it's going to be about 6 7/16 of an inch, and our stroke is gonna be about 3 5/8 of an inch. This does compress with a 20 to 30 pound force or about a 89 to 134 Newtons of force there. This does feature dampening technology that's gonna help provide a nice smooth operation that eliminates your bouncing and jumping to ensure a nice smooth movement, make sure that no matter what weather conditions you're operating in, it's gonna be nice and frictionless, so it's going to operate properly for you. This does have a nitride-coated steel shaft that is gonna be corrosion resistant, so it will last for a long time, give you great performance for a long time to come.

I called etrailer and talked to Randall V trying to locate a special door shock for my RV. I needed a special length with added pressure rating. The struts fit and delivery was fast. Made in China is always a one to two star deduction.
These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
Install was easy and just want I needed
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
