Geoff: Hello, everybody. This is Geoff at etrailer.com.Today, we're going to take a look at this tailor-made, 17" long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now, this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat hatch lid or compartment door. It extends to ease lifting your hatch lid. And it'll compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It is a heat-treated steel construction which is very durable.

Has a corrosion-resistant coating so it won't rust even in saltwater areas. And it easily installs in minutes, no special tools are required. It is a ball and socket installation. It attaches to the ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch or compartment door. And when you install this, you do want to make sure that the inner rod, right here, is facing down and it is always recommended to replace the gas shocks in pairs. We had mentioned the connection type on this.

It's a 10-millimeter ball socket. What I am going to do is zoom in here just so we can look . there's your ball socket. That'll go over a 10-millimeter ball. And the way you go to install this, there's a clip over it.

So, on your old one, you'll take a little flat tip screwdriver, put it under the clip, raise that clip up. You don't have to remove it, just pop it up enough to release it. And then you can remove that end and do it on the other end. And then when you go to install this one, same way, pop this clip up, that'll relieve the pressure and then push it onto the ball and then just push that clip down and it'll secure it to the ball socket.Total length on this, going to measure it for you. And that's measured from the center of this ball socket to the center of the other ball socket.

So, it's going to be right at 17" in length. Compression force on this is 10 pounds and it is for a quantity of one strut. But that should do it for the review on the tailor-made 17" long steel gas strut for boat hatches.

  • Different Weight Ratings of 17 inch Long Boat Hatch Shocks
We have 17 inch boat hatch shocks with as little as 10 lbs of force like the part # 3691830-10 all the way up to 120 lbs of force with # 3691834-120. It really depends on the weight of your deck lid on your Nitro bass boat. I attached a link to a page that has all of the ones we carry as well. You'd want to determine how much one side of your deck weighs (how much you have to lift) and then go with best rated option.
