Video Transcript for Erickson Horizontal E-Track Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Erickson horizontal E-track track system. This is available in many different lengths to fit a wide variety of applications. Here you can see our E-track in action. As we're driving around, you can see all of our items are staying in place very, very well. You're not going to have to worry about shifting, things going from one side to the other and causing issues or making a mess when you get to your final destination. Now the E-track system is easily the most popular cargo control system that we have available. Essentially you can mount this just about anywhere. We're in an enclosed trailer today.

We've got two rows of it mounted here on the side of the trailer. Two on the bottom, two on the other side. This is going to give this customer hundreds of attachment points for just about any type of accessory, straps, different hooks and stuff that'll work out great. You can see even here on the front of the Ranger, right around the tires, they've got chocks. So you know you're getting your Ranger in the right spot every time or any other vehicle for that matter. And not only is this going to work out well for enclosed trailers like this.

But we see people that mount these on the wall in their garage, on open utility trailers. Maybe in the bed of your truck, if you haul a little four wheeler around or something like that. So it can really give you a very good way to get everything nice and secure and not be limited on the attachment points you have and have to kind of finagle things to get it strapped in properly. In this case, you'll be able to have an attachment point exactly where you need it all the time. Here's one example, you can see there's just a nice clip in ring that's available. This can click in any slot on the E-track and those are going to be on two inch centers from one to the other.

You can see that's going to come out. We can move it anywhere along the line we want. So if we're trying to pack a larger item, we can spread it out wider. A narrower item, we can bring them in closer together. You'll see how that's going to work.

You just push down on that tab, the sides going to go in first. Rotate the bottom in and just allow it to come down, that's going to click back in, gives us a good secure attachment point that then we can get all of our gear kind of secured with. Here you can see another good example. We've got our E-chock in right here. That clips again right into the E-track. Then we're able to bring one of the E-track specific straps around. Get that connected right around all four tires. This thing is not going to go anywhere. It's extremely secure and extremely stable. Now if you already have a bunch of straps with hooks on the end, it's not really a big deal. They've got an accessory that's going to work out great for that as well. Here you can see the D hook style strap. And again just very quick and easy to get that connected or removed. It can be slid anywhere along the track that you want. And you can use your already existing straps to hold everything in place. Here's another good example of one of our E-track's straps in use. You can see we've got it connected to the wall there around our tool box. Whether you're using it as a work type situation or playing on the weekends, you'll need tools if you break something. You can see that box is super secure. It's not going anywhere. Not going to have to worry about your box turning over or your tools being misplaced when you get where you're going. We also have a lot of tool holders, whether that's a horizontal type like what we have here. You can see use two of those, you'll be able to stack tubing, boards, whatever you might want kept up to the side or the vertical type like we've got here. You can see these come in various sizes. There's just a growing number of accessories available for this E-track to make your cargo control a very easy and manageable situation. We're also going to have almost like a Joyce hanger available. This makes an ideal solution for building shelves or beds inside of your enclosed trailer. To either give you a lot more storage options or give you someplace to sleep once your get your vehicle out there, get everything unloaded. You just turn this right into a camper. Now the E-track itself is completely zinc coated. So even if you are going to have it exposed to the elements, you're not going to have to worry about that rust and corrosion so much. And then like some of the other track systems available, you can see how many attachment points there are. Even on our enclosed trailer here where we have to hit studs specifically to get it attached. See generally they're going to line up and give you a good secure point. Now the hardware's not included to secure it and that's understandable. There are many different ways to secure this and a lot of different materials to secure it too. So you'll have to provide your own hardware to get that installed. Now something else I really like about the E-track is its got a little bit of a flex to it. So you can see here is our trailer steps back, it kind of dovetails down a little bit. So it's got a little bit of a slope, able to contour exactly to that, still give us good attachment points from the front to back of our trailer. Now to go over a few dimensions for our E-track. From the bottom to the top here, the total width is going to be about five and an eighth of an inch. And then from the surface you mount it to, to the top of the track is going to be about 7/16 of an inch. Now where the track ends, you do have little caps or little wedges that are made to fit in place there. So you don't just have a step up. It's going to give you something that'll actually roll up and over. Really prevents you from getting your foot hung on it or anything like that. Now when it comes time to mount the track, our mounting holes are a quarter inch in diameter. And they're going to be located every two inches. So as you can see, even on our trailer here it's had a few irregularities in the studs. We're able to get a bolt into each one of them and get our track nice and secure. Now it has a 6,000 pound break strength and a 2,000 pound safe working load limit. You want to stay in that 2,000 pound safe working load limit. You don't want to press that break strength. But one thing you really need to keep in mind is, if you only attach this, let's say you only get one of the five foot sections and you attach it with four screws. That's not really going to give you much strength. You want to get plenty of fasteners in there to help out and make sure we can get right up to that working load limit that we expect. Now Erickson offers their horizontal E-track in a lot of different lengths. They've got a four inch section, if you just need a small connection point in a few spots on your trailer. Then they also have a few different lengths in the feet. You get two feet, four feet, five feet, or eight feet sections. So you can really get exactly what you need for you application. Then another thing to keep in mind. This can be cut in a few situations in our trailer here. We have an eight foot section, we had to maybe cut it down to maybe seven or seven and a half. But using the cut off saw, kind of an abrasive wheel saw. It cuts pretty easily and you can really get it customized for your situation. Now let's take a second to compare the E-track with other track systems. Here we have the O-track, this is the wall mount style. Basically you'll have rings and a few other accessories available for this track. It's not as easy to use. So we're going to pull this in, put the circle in the circle. I'm going to slide it over about midway. We're going to see that it's going to click in. That kind of locks our ring in place. There are some accessories available for the O-track, not nearly as many as what you're going to find with the E-track.I also like the fact that the E-track, see how it mounts on two sides here. So if we are pulling downward a little bit, we've got security. With the O-track it's going to mount right in the middle at a single point. So that's going to give us less resistance to twisting as we secure our items. And while the shorter pieces like this will come with hardware, for the floor track, which we'll show you in just a minute. You need to find this particular type of screw with the pan head to it, to where it'll sit down and flush in. Whereas when we secure the E-track, we can do that with just about any type of hardware that we want that's a quarter inch. Here you can see on the O-track for the floor, it does have a taper on each side. That's going to make it smooth and for the wall or for the floor, we'll have the cap that goes on the end. So that's very similar in to the style that we have with the E-track. But something I noticed, take a look at your mounting holes here. We've got one here, one here, one here. So that gives your about a 12 inch space between each of them. Where again with the E-track, we've got tons of areas to secure it, many different holes that are available on two inch centers. So the E-track's going to be a much more secure system that what you're going to get with the O-track. Looking over our customer reviews with the O-track, they like it. It works out, but anytime you move into those heavier duty applications, you'll see the E-track really shines. Now while this isn't a track system, this is another tie down method that you're going to see very often in trailers. This is a fixed point tie down, so we can't move this thing around if we decide we want to go from one to two ATVs or something. We really don't have that option. There's a hole drilled in the floor and that allows it to sit down and in. That's supposed to give your a much more flush kind of a style. But with the head of the bolt sticking up here, at each of our mounting locations and the thickness of the flange. It's just about at the same level as what we get with the E-track.So when we look between the two systems that we have here, while we'll get a higher capacity in a lot of cases with this style. With our E-track, we get tons more versatility. Now as we've shown you, the E-track system can mount either on the side of the trailer or on the floor. We're going to show you here just a little bit of how the side would go in. Basically, we've measured from the top of the trailer down to the top of where we want our track to go. One thing you will notice, right here on the end there's going to be a little step up there. In that situation, see we've got just a little cap that goes over and smooths that out. That'll prevent your hand getting caught on it if you walk by or anything like that. So we're just going to kind of match that up with what we've done on the top. That gives us our location.Another thing to consider, this is a steel track, it is zinc coated and this is an aluminum trailer. If you're going to be putting steel on aluminum, good idea to use an isolator. This is going to allow us to get this in place. We won't have to worry about the corrosion that's often caused with dissimilar metals. So we get that put in place. Now the hardware you used to install it, that's going to be up to you. With us going into the aluminum, we're going to be using self tapping screws. If you're going into a wooden trailer or something like that, of course you'll probably want to use something a little bit different. So we'll get this corner started. We're going to go to our other end, going to make sure that it's level where we want it. Then we'll just work our way down putting our isolators in along the way. You'll notice here at the end of this section of the track, our hole isn't over our stud. What we're going to do is just drill a pilot hole. It'll allow our fastener to go through. Let's get our holes drilled top and bottom here. And again you want to make sure you're drilling a pilot hole that's appropriate for the fastener you're using. Now for our end cap, just going to place that on. It's designed to just match up perfectly the top and bottom there. Use our fasteners and get that in place. All right that pretty much kind of sums up your wall mount situation and how you'll get it mounted on the wall. So we're going to finish this one up. Then we'll turn our attention to the floor. Now you can see we've marked here on our floor where we want the center of our track to run. We've also marked where we want the end of our track to be. Mark the center of our track. And now we're just going to get that all kind of lined up there. Again, using steel on aluminum. We're going to use an insulator there or an isolator. All right, that looks good there. And then to keep it square, we'll just measure over to the side of the trailer and back out. We want to keep that consistent the full length of our track. Once we've confirmed that it's running square with our trailer, we'll just get it secured down. And with our track secured down, we'll just remove the excess isolator that we've got here. Then we can put our caps on. Now for capping off the end of our floor plate here, our floor track. Just want to use the same procedure we did for the walls. Place it in, get your screws started. Now as we're coming in or going out, we won't have to worry about kind of trip hazard. That's going to complete our look at the Erickson horizontal E-track system.

This E-Track (and E-Track straps) was installed on the wall of my box trailer to secure a rolling took chest. It has performed flawlessly. Thanks again etrailer, for a great product.

We used the E-Track system in conjunction with the Erickson E-Chocks, Erickson Roller Idler, and the Erickson E-Track Strap with Ratchet to hold down the car in our enclosed trailer. Installation was easy and was completed in a short amount of time. This eliminates the trip hazard of straps extending to D Rings, and eliminates potential damage from tie downs connected to frame on rough roads. I would highly recommend this system to anyone needing to tie down anything with tires.

Excellent product! I bought 2 of the 4-ft e-tracks. These are heavier duty than I thought they would be. They are extremely practical for my 10' wood floored utility trailer. If you are like me, there aren't many good tie down points on wood bottomed trailers. These are an easy fix for a host of applications. They work great for having multiple points to tie down my 4-wheeler or lawnmower. I will definitely recommend! The only better would have been free shipping.

The track is good. I have not gotten to use it much since I put it in a trailer that is used for sound engineering and the coronavirus pretty well squashed all the business. But I like it and I'm happy with the product.

The following review is the same as the one I left for the 2ft E-Track. This track is very well built and makes securing cargo in my trailer easy and convenient. Installation was a snap with an extra helping hand. Highly recommend upgrading walls in an enclosed trailer to a quality plywood .46 inches or thicker, to be able to utilize the track to its full potential. The only drawback I had with the track is that the holes are not drilled out to 5/16th's like the backing plates. I had to drill out the holes I used with my step drill bit to ensure my 5/16th's hardware worked. Highly recommend utilizing grade 5 or higher nuts and bolts for a secure, reliable installation.

Anchors are very well built and have performed extremely well. They fit on the E-Track perfectly and have not failed to hold their load safely. Highly Recommended!!

I LOVE e-track. It is 100X easier to tie stuff down in my trailer when I can move my tie down points to suit each unique load, compared to fixed tie down products. I put two rows of eTrack on each side of my trailer. Not only does that give me tons of tie down options, but using their 2x4 anchors I can make a movable barrier to separate things that are too small to tie down, so they don't move around. For example helping someone move all their household crap -- put all the small stuff in the front, and keep it there with a barrier that I can position anywhere I want. eTrailer has these tracks at a great price compared to Harbor Freight and Northern Tools. And these tracks are much heavier gauge than the tracks carried by those stores.

Etrailer supplied the equipment I needed at a great price and shipped the the northwest coast with on days from when I placed the order. All the e-track hardware and equipment was in stock and arrived packaged very well with no shipping damage. The e-track is heavy duty, much more than I had expected and it was easy to install. Looking forward to upgrading my trailer even more from etrailer. Thanks again!

Decked out my new cargo trailer with this e-track. Looks sweet! Heavy gauge construction. Easy installation. Along with the Erickson E-Track straps now I'm ready to haul just about anything safely and securely. Thanks etrailer!

I installed these in a 6x14 box trailer with 1/4" sheet metal screws into the metal framing (side panel). They are strong and provide a lot of flexibility. I use the horizontal tube and rectangular holders for fishing poles, pipes and other similar gear. Goes well with E59143 also and the various hooks like EM59142. I used 2 4' horizontals and 2 2' horizontals to provide good coverage on the door side of my trailer and am very pleased with the install.

I ordered a variety of e-track components from etrailer to install in my 20ft enclosed Haulmark trailer. With only four factory installed recessed D-rings the trailer offered very few tie down options. Etrailer extensive product catalog provided one-stop shopping and their videos were very helpful when researching configuration and installation options. All products arrived on schedule and I am very impressed with the quality.

Bought E-Track to attach to the walls of my 5th Wheel Toy Hauler to attach stuff. Found out that I don't have any studs to anchor to. Attached to the paneling with anticipation that they would not stay, I was wrong. Holding very well and I am totally pleased with the results.

Had everything I needed in stock and shipped very promptly. Excellent service! Haven't had the chance to use/install the products I've ordered yet but I'm sure everything will be fine as for we've never had any issues with this parts company. Will definitely buy more from here.

Yes I did receive the order and it was exactly what I needed. I installed the etrack on my trailer and hauled my bike to Florida. It worked great and I didn’t have to worry about the tie downs coming loose. Thanks

The E-Track and D-Rings are great. The shipping was super fast. The only downside was the E-Track sections were wrapped together with shipping tape, so after pulling off the tape, there was a lot of "goo" left on the surfaces. Took awhile to clean everything off.

I received my order a few days ago. Everything was there and well packaged. I had great help and answered my questions. Now the work begins installing my E-track on my new car trailer and getting everything to work the way I want it to. Thanks etrailer for your help. Sincerely, Steve S.

Great product. E track was straight and not damaged on delivery. One box for the long pieces 5' should have been smaller, a lot of waisted space on shipping. Easy to install, watch their video on installation which helps alot. Does take some time to install.

Ask the Experts about this Erickson E-Track

  • Can E-Track be Mounted Perpendicular to UTV
That's a good question and we have had a number of people wanting to do the same thing, but e-track does need to be mounted parallel to your UTV, in the direction of travel. Wheel straps pulling to the side, opposite the direction of travel, can put undue stress on the straps with what is essentially a moving load. So what you will want is horizontal e-track with wheel straps: - Erickson Horizontal E-Track - 4 Feet # EM19147 or 5 Feet # E19148 - Erickson E-Track Wheel Tie-Down...

I have found the galvanized coating on the etrailer Horizontal E-Track # e95VR will hold up to rust and corrosion better than the zinc coated Erickson Horizontal E-Track # EM19147 that you were looking at. The galvanizing process leaves a thicker coating as compared to zinc coatings. This will allow for it not to wear off as quickly. The mounting holes on the E-Track such as # E19147 are 1/4 inch in diameter. The type and length fastener you should use will depend on the surface material and thickness you are attaching it to. For example, if the surface was ACQ treated wood you could use # TFX250ACQ which is 2-1/2 inches long.

On an 4 foot long section of E-track # EM19147 and 2 screws every 16 inches that is a total of 6 screws in the aluminum frame. This most likely will not get you near the capacity of the E-track. I'd recommend through bolting the e-track into the available cross members under the trailer floor. You'll want to fasten the e-track to the floor in between those points, but the fasteners you'd use and how many of them will depend on the structure of the floor. If you're talking a wood plank floor, you have plenty of floor structure for the fasteners to bite into, so attaching the track every foot or so would be fine. If the floor is thinner metal, you'll want to use self tapping screws...

  • Is Strength of E-Tracks Based on Direction They Support Weight
The E-tracks were designed to give quite a bit of flexibility in how they can support weight. But in general forward to back would be a bit stronger just based on how the mounting holes line up and the leverage they would have over the cargo. If the angles aren't severe there wouldn't be a noticeable difference. On a two inch wood floor wood screws would be just fine. I would go with at least every other hole used on the tracks for max strength.

E-track would work great for securing your tractor. Since your trailer is 12 inches long you could use three sections of 4 foot long E-tracks like part # EM19147 and you'd have track that runs from front to back on your trailer floor. For a tie down anchor to fit the track we have the part # 59147 which will work well. And then for straps the I recommend a ratcheting tie-down strap like part # EM51330. This tie-down strap measures 1-1/2 inches x 15 ft, and has a working load limit of...

  • Can Erickson Horizontal E-Track # EM19147 be Used on Plywood
If you used at least every other mounting hole to secure the E-track part # EM19147 to the plywood and the wood itself was rated for the weight as well you'd be totally fine.

  • Mounting Erickson E-Tracks to 3/8 Inch Plywood or Vinyl Covered Walls
To mount Erickson E-Tracks like the 4 Foot Long # EM19147 that you are looking at you will want to use 1/4 inch diameter screws/bolts. The length is entirely dependent on the application but for 3/8 inch plywood I really recommend first securing the plywood to the trailer frame in as many points a possible (if not already done so). You can also remove plywood from the areas you plan on installing the E-Track and reinforce the back of the plywood with a mounting plate like # BPEZ. You...

  • Hardware Recommendation for Securing E Tracks to Plywood Trailer Floor
Securing the Erickson E-Track # E19148 to 3/4 inch plywood should be sufficient. To secure the track to the plywood, you can use screws, or rivets. Using 1/2 inch screws would be a good length with 3/4 inch plywood. You will want to attach screws at least every other mounting hole. For tie downs and straps I would recommend either the E-Track Tie-Off Ring # 59131, or E-Track 2 inch D-Ring, part # E59143. Also available is the Erickson E-Track Strap with Ratchet, part # EM59136.

  • Mounting E-Track on Plywood Floor of Aluminum Frame Trailer
If you didn't want to drill down into the frame of your trailer you could use short wood screws to attach to just the plywood floor. I would recommend using a screw in every hole though for the # EM19147.

  • Differences Between Horizontal and Vertical Erickson E-Tracks
Erickson E-Tracks are offered in various lengths and for either horizontal or vertical installation on your trailer's deck or interior walls. An example of a vertical E-Track is part # E19146 and examples of a horizontal track are part # EM59150 and part # EM19147 that you referenced. You'll notice that the direction of the slots does differ. You will want to use 2 fasteners minimum per linear foot of track. Use fasteners on both sides of the track. So for example, a 2-foot track section...

  • How Much Can the Erickson Vertical E-Tracks Hold
The Erickson Vertical E-Track part # EM19147 that you referenced has a 6,000 lb total weight capacity. If you were using two of them, one on each side with a beam in between then the weight capacity would then be doubled. Therefore, the tracks themselves are not going to be the weak link but rather how you anchor them. It is going to be difficult to attach the tracks to a cylindrical pipe but it can be done. The best way in my opinion would be to make a backing plate with mounting holes...

  • Can E-Track be Installed in Car Hauler for Multiple Car Widths
You can install the Erickson Horizontal E-Track # E19148 in any manner you like, so for a car hauler that has cars of different widths you can place E-track side-by-side, as you can see one of our customers did in the accompanying photo. This E-track is only 5-1/8" wide so you can install numerous different tracks to meet as many widths as possible. For additional support I do recommend using the E-Track Backing Plate # BPEZ during your install. This would be the best option and then...

  • Can I Mount Multiple Pieces Of E-track To Make An 18 Feet Strip
If you need 18 feet of E-track I recommend using 2 pieces of 8 feet Horizontal E-track part # E19135 and 1 piece of 2 feet E-Track part # EM59150. 8 feet is the longest Horizontal E-Track available. The E-track pieces are not designed to be mounted properly while overlapped with one another. I recommend cutting one of the tracks down with a saw or cutting wheel if the piece is too long to mount onto the wall stud. A lot of customers also attach thicker plywood to the wall studs where...

  • Installing E-Trac To Build Shelves In Fiber Glass Box Truck
There will still be metal studs behind the fiber glass wall in the box truck, so you want to purchase a stud finder that is capable of detecting metal studs to attach your track to. I am not entirely sure what you are trying to build when you mention rafters but it sounds like you may be trying to build a shelf like in the pictures I have attached. You can use the E-Track Wood Beam Socket part # 59149 and horizontal or vertical e-track (depending on what you are trying to accomplish) like...

  • Using E-Tracks to Secure 6,000 Pound Tractor on Trailer
The E-Tracks we have available differ in size but they all feature the same 2,000 pound safe working load limit. In order to stay within the working limit of the tracks themselves I recommend installing shorter sections like the 2 Foot # EM59150 or 4 Foot # EM19147 for each tie-down point (4 total) on your tractor. This will give you a combined safe working load limit of 8,000 pounds and will work great with Tie Down Rings like # 59147 and Ratchet Straps like # EM78627-MS to safely...

  • What Length of E-Track to Use with Erickson E-Track Tie-Down Kit
You could get by with 4 foot sections of e-track like the # EM19147 with the wheel chock setup part # EM58523-09162-4.

  • Spacing the Tracks When Installing E-Track to Metal Floor of Car Hauler
If you are planning on using an E-track wheel strap like the part # EM58523 (which would be your best and easiest option for securing the vehicle), you would want to space the E-track sections the exact same width as the tires on your vehicle. Right down the middle like in the picture I attached would be ideal. The ratings for the tracks is the amount of weight they can secure. So part # EM19147 can secure up to 6,000 lbs.

  • Erickson E-Track Tie-Down Kit w/ Ratchet Straps # EM58523-09162 Recommendation for Car Hauler
For securing a vehicle to a trailer the Erickson E-Track Tie-Down Kit w/ Ratchet Straps # EM58523-09162 that you referenced is a great choice. It's very easy to use and works well. It also gives flexibility in how the vehicle will attach to the floor since the different slots can easily be selected. It will require you to install E-tracks on the floor of you trailer though like the # EM19147 for 4 foot long sections. For a backing plate to install on the bottom of the trailer we have the...

  • How To Secure a Vehicle to a Car Hauler Trailer
I have a few options for you to secure your 2017 Honda Pilot to the Gatormade Flatbed Car Hauler. The best option would be to use the Erickson E-Track Tie-Down Kit part # EM58523-09162 (2) along with the Erickson Horizontal E-Track part # EM19147 (4). This will be the most secure option we have and it can be used on pretty much any vehicle under 4,400 lbs. If you don't want to use the above then a more cost effective alternative would be to utilize the stake pocket openings welded to...
