Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear of the vehicle, along the driver's-side frame rail. Once you've plugged in the tow harness, connect the included jumper harness with relays to activate functions. This harness plugs into the 12-pin plug that is located behind the passenger's-side kick panel in your cab.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Nissan Frontier

Speaker 1: Today on this 2017 Nissan Frontier, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with a Four-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number 118525.Here's what the wiring looks like installed. This wiring harness is going to give us the basic lighting functions that are required by law in order for us to safely and legally tow a trailer. We're going to have our tail lights, our running lights, our turning signals, and our brake lights, and on each one of those circuits we're going to have a total power output of 7.5 amps, which is more than sufficient to tow a trailer with about three or four incandescent light bulbs per our turn signals or our brake lights. If we're running LED lights, we'll be basically able to run about as much LED lights as we want because they do draw significantly less power than incandescent lights. One nice feature about our wiring harness is we have a built-in dust cover to help better protect it from the elements when it's not in use. Now, one thing that I like to do is to take a little bit of dielectric grease, which we have available on our website, and put it inside of our connector. This will help better protect it from any moisture, which could potentially cause corrosion over time, and be fully protected. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we need to find our factory tow package connector.

We will locate that on the inside edge of our driver-side frame rail. We will be working with this gray plug right here. We'll slide it off the frame. We have a tab right here. If we depress on it, we can pull apart the plug that protects it.

I like using a pair of needle nose pliers for this because it's easier. Now, we'll take our four-pole flat harness and we'll plug it into our factory connector and slide it back onto the frame. Now, we need to find a way to attach our four-pole connector to our vehicle so it's securely mounted. On our hitch, we have an attachment point here for wiring brackets. New have a four-pole flat wiring bracket here, which we'll attach to that with provided hardware. We have this available on our website as part number 18144.We'll use a wrench to hold the nut in place and a screwdriver to tighten the screw.

Now, we can take our four-pole connector, slide it through the bracket and push it through until it locks into place, and our dust cover will just wrap around and clip onto it. All right. We went ahead and bundled up our excess wiring with a couple of our Zip Ties. We just secured it to a factory wiring harness. This will keep it from dragging on the ground and keep it from being visible from behind the vehicle. Now we find ourselves in the passenger side of our truck in our front door area.

We need to remove our doorsill entryway right here. To do that, just lift up on it. I'll pull back from our B-pillar. Now. the second piece of our kit panel is secured to our carpet right here with a plastic screw. Unscrew it. Then we can grab the panel, pull it away, and set it aside.Behind that panel, we find this unoccupied connector. We'll plug our relay harness into that connector. It only goes in one way. Once it clicks, we know it's secure. Now we have three relays we need to plug in. Our blue ones will go to our white connectors. They only go in one way. Just line it up and push and the brown one goes to brown connector. Now that we have our relays all plugged in, we have three pieces of this foam tape that we can wrap around the relays to help avoid any rattling noises as we travel over rough roads. Peel back the backing, wrap it around the end of the relays. This will just help isolate them, so they don't make noise. We'll do the same for all three. Okay. Now, we can tuck our relay harness in this area here and reinstall our panels. Now, we'll use a four-pole flat tester, which we have available on our website. It's part number I26, to test out our wiring. We're using this versus hooking up to our trailer because if our trailer had a wiring problem or burned out light bulb, we wouldn't be able to tell if the wiring was working properly on our truck. With our headlights turned on, you can see that our tail light and running light circuit's working properly. Our left turn signal's working too as is our right. Step on the brakes now. Brake lights are working, and while our foot's on the brake, we'll run both of our turn signals to make sure they function properly still. Perfect. Everything's working just like it's supposed to.That completes our look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with a Four-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number 118525, on this 2017 Nissan Frontier.

I bought this hitch and wiring for a new 2019 Nissan Frontier. I installed everything myself. The receiver would be easier to install with a second pair of hands but I managed by using a piece of rope to lift one side into place and kept it suspended so I could get the bolts started in the other side. Then started the bolts in the rope side and tighten them up and done. No need to remove the spare tire or anything else. Just lift it up and put the bolts in. Be sure to put a torque wrench on them because the recommend foot pounds is probably tighter than what you would guess just going by feel. I was intimidated by the wiring, going under the kick panel and everything. It turned out to be super easy. I mean like 5 minutes and you are done. Total plug and play. Watch the videos and you can't go wrong. It couldn't get much easier than this unless you have someone else do it. 689914

My eTrailer purchase experience has been fantastic! Quality products, low prices, fast shipping, and great instructional videos. The Curt Trailer Hitch (#13514) is definitely a high quality product; I installed it on my 2012 Nissan Xterra PRO-4X. The fit was definitely tight. Not only did I have to remove the rear exhaust hanger per the instructions, I had to remove the mid-hanger just behind the muffler and loosen the hanger just in front on the muffler to get the required clearance. After that it just needed some friendly persuasion; i.e. a hammer. The hitch fits well, looks great, and only took about an hour to install with my 15 year old son. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with Relays (#118525) could not have been easier! I was only cautious of removing the passenger side floor sill and kick panel without a panel puller. Just took my time and didn't rush; panel puller really not required. Had the Xterra wired in 20 minutes. GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH eTrailer! They have gained a repeat customer!!! 38756

I had previously bought a rear wiring harness from another vendor and wondered why my running lights did not work. After seeing etrailer.com's video and information about my Xterra I realized I needed the front harness and relays. I ordered the kit here and it was a snap to install after watching their video. I am happy to say that now all of my trailer lighting works perfectly. Shipping was fast too. This is a great website with all of the information you need. I will definitely come back for any future towing needs. 131384

Installed the T-One wiring harness,118525,on my 2011 Nissan Xterra PRO-4X in less than 15 minutes. Used this to replace a Uhaul powered tail light convertor that had went bad 4 times in the last year ruining one trip and almost ruining another. Now when I hook up my trailer I no longer have to hold my breath wondering when the trailer lights will quit working. Thanks etrailer and good riddance Uhaul. 138600

This product worked exactly as expected - it enabled my 06 Nissan Frontier to power the running lights on a towed trailer. For some reason, a Nissan from that period, purchased without the towing package, is not fully wired to power trailer lights. You can buy a ball, and you can buy a wire that runs from the connection under the rear of the truck to the trailer, but you will only have brake lights and turn signals - no running lights. The rest of the problem is behind the kick plate to the right of the front passenger footwell. Some forum postings imply that you should plug a blue relay into the existing harness at that location. This is not correct. You need the wiring harness sold in this set. It contains a 12 pin connector that you plug into the free end of the existing harness. This new harness comes with three free ends, and that is where you plug the two blue and one brown relay that also come with this kit. Put it all together, hook up to the trailer, and, voila! - you have running lights. I think it was lame of Nissan to leave the truck unwired (to make a buck later), but this is the solution. Takes five minutes. Oh, don’t be alarmed if the picture on the box is not what you ordered. Mine wasn’t. I think they re-use boxes, but the contents inside were exactly right. 698867

Was a great experience ordering an installation. The video I found was great in assisting in my installation. All lights are working now. The only thing would be of help if I had known it was necessary to have the relay to make the running lights to work. Because my Frountier has the factory tow package ,but lights want work without the relays. Who knew. 695975

I received the hitch and wiring last night as scheduled. When I unpacked the box and attempted to install the hitch, the mounting holes on the driver side were off by over a half of an inch. After inspection I noticed the mounting bracket of the hitch had been bent in shipping. The box had been taped up. Since we have the resources and tools I was able to bend it back to the proper position. Installation, including the wiring harness worked as planned from that point. I always have great service from etrailer. 638794

  • Recommended Wiring Harness for 2016 Nissan Frontier Without Tow Package
  • For your 2016 Nissan Frontier without a tow package, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118266. This will allow you to easily connect to your factory wiring and have a 7-way. If you only want the 4-way flat since you are using a small trailer, you can alternatively use the # 118525. Many with even small trailers prefer the 7-way but you can use an adapter like # 47345 or a 7-way with integrated 4-way flat like # HM40950. For the trailer hitch,...

For a trailer hitch confirmed to fit your vehicle, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75291 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. As you can see in the installation video I have attached for you, the hitch is very simple to install. Then for a trailer...

On some Nissan vehicles there is another relay that is often needed so it is possible that it is missing or that one went bad. It is a blue relay, # 38666-1. The easiest way to test for a bad relay is to use a known good one in its place. I have included a link below on troubleshooting wiring as well that will also help in testing to find the problem.

If you do not see a harness with relays, then it is likely that the harness wasn't installed. Unfortunately this harness isn't available...

  • If all the relays with the 4-Way connector were installed on your 2011 Nissan Xterra, like what is included with # 118525, they will not need to be replaced or upgraded when changing to a 7-Way connector on the vehicle. Since you do not need any of the relays, you can just use the Replacement Wiring Harness # 118282 to install a 7-Way on the Xterra. This will plug right into the built-in factory ports (the same location where the 4-Way is plugged into now) to provide you with a fully functional...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Connector On 2015 Nissan Frontier When Tail Lights Do Not Work
  • If you have a 4-way trailer wiring harness on your 2015 Frontier, the tail lights should be working as well as the turn and brake lights. I recommend using a circuit tester like part # 40376. Have someone run through the functions while you check the pins on the harness. If any functions are not working you will need to make sure all the fuses are good. If they are all okay then start checking the wiring from the trailer connector forward. There may be a loose or damaged wire or...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2010 Nissan Xterra without Factory Tow Package
  • It sounds like you need the relay for the running light circuit to function on your 2010 Nissan Xterra. Wiring harness # 118525 comes with 3 relays to make the harness fully functional. This harness is designed specifically if the vehicle did not come with the factory tow package.

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For 2011 Nissan Xterra
  • Many times you can tell what kind of connector you need by checking out the trailer. If the trailer has brakes you can bet you will need a 7-way connector on your 2011 Nissan Xterra. You would also need a brake controller if the trailer has brakes. First, if the trailer does not have brakes on it you will probably only need a 4-way connector for running lights, turn signals, and brake lights. If that is the case I recommend the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118525. This...

  • Installation of 4-Flat Wiring Harness on 2019 Nissan Frontier
  • Installation of the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118525 that fits your 2019 Nissan Frontier (without a factory connector) is very straightforward, but installing a harness on a Nissan does require the use of relays, which are included with this kit. Start the install by attaching the relays, with the blue ones going on the white plugs and the brown one going on the brown plug. Then simply locate where you need to plug in the connectors and that's...

  • Parts Needed to Add a 7-Way and Wiring for a Brake Controller on a 2008 Nissan Frontier
  • Because your 2008 Nissan Frontier did not come with a factory tow package, it is not completely wired to accept a plug and play type of 7-Way or brake controller. But not to worry, installing one will not be as difficult as you might think. I am not sure which 4-Way to 7-Way adapter you are using, but we recommend the installation kit # ETBC7 that comes with an adpater of its own. What you can do, instead of purchasing this whole kit, is to get all the parts you will need, minus the...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2014 Nissan Frontier
  • There are a couple of trailer wiring options available for the 2014 Nissan Frontier. We have harness # 118525 which plugs into the vehicle in two places: behind the passengers side kick panel and at the back of the vehicle. I have linked the instructions and a video showing installation on a 2012 Frontier. The other option is a hardwire installation using kit # 119147KIT. You will have to cut and splice into the vehicle tail light wiring to installation this harness. I have linked its...

  • No Right Stop/Turn Signals With T-One Harness 118525 On a 2015 Nissan Frontier
  • It sounds like you are using some sort of plug-in LED tester like the Brophy Circuit Tester for 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # F4CT and if that is the case then these are not always accurate and Tekonsha even recommends against using these so you really need to do your testing with a incandescent circuit tester like the Draw-Tite Circuit Tester part # 40376. If you still do not get power on the right stop/turn circuit even with a standard circuit tester then be sure to give all the...

  • Wiring Harness and Other Parts Needed To Tow Small Utility Trailer With 2011 Nissan Frontier
  • To pull a small utility trailer with your 2011 Nissan Frontier you will need a hitch, ball mount, hitch ball, and a wiring harness for lighting on the trailer. If your Nissan did not come with a factory tow package, you would need to use Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118263. This harness comes with the relays needed and the wiring required to make everything functional on a trailer. I have included a link to the installation details for you. The hitch I would recommend would...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2006 Nissan Xterra without Factory Tow Package
  • For a 2006 Nissan Xterra you can use wiring harness # 118525 that you have referenced. This is the correct harness for an Xterra that did NOT come with a factory 4-Way or 7-Way trailer connector. I have included a link to a video showing a typical installation and a link to the installation instructions.

  • How to Determine if a 2009 Nissan Xterra has a Factory Tow Package to Add Trailer Wiring
  • The easiest and definitive way to determine if your 2009 Nissan Xterra has a factory tow package is to give the VIN to a dealership and have them determine what options it came with from the factory. A another way would be to use a circuit tester, like # ALL640595 if needed, and test the factory connection point under the vehicle. It should show signals when the brakes are applied, lights are turned on, and turn signals engaged. However, even if it shows signals it does not necessarily...

  • Installing Trailer Wiring Harness on 2014 Nissan Xterra w/out Tow Package
  • If your 2014 Nissan Xterra was not equipped with the factory tow package, the port where you plugged in your 4-pole trailer connector, part # C55441, will NOT be fully active. There is a jumper harness and relays that are needed to activate the tow package. The Tow Ready # 118525 that we offer includes the 4-pole that plugs into the connector along the driver's side frame rail alongside the spare tire, as well as the jumper harness and relays. The relays plug into the jumper harness,...

  • 2014 Nissan Xterra W/O Tow Package Trailer Wiring Recommendation
  • Remove the side panel by the passenger door to see if the jumper wires are there. It could be that you are just missing the relays. Which if so then you would want the # C57000 for all of the relays. Or part # 38666-1 if you only need the blue relay(s). If the jumper harness is missing then I would recommend you get the # 118525 instead as it will come with everything.

  • Trailer Running Lights Do Not Work on a 2011 Nissan Xterra with Factory Tow Package Wiring
  • It sounds like the relay and/or fuse is missing or blown on the tow package wiring for your 2011 Nissan Xterra. Check the vehicle owners manual for the fuse and relay locations. If a relay is missing it is likely # 38666-1 or available from a Nissan dealer.

  • Curt Hitch # 13831 Compatilbiity Between 2003 and 2011 Nissan Frontier
  • The Curt Class III trailer hitch that you referenced, part # 13831, is a fit for the King Cab version of the 2003 Nissan Frontier but this hitch will not fit your 2011 Frontier. These two model years, 8 years apart, are not of the same generation of the Frontier and so hitch fits are not common between the two. The link provided will show you all three Class III hitches offered for the 2011 model year Frontier. If you need a wiring harness you can use part # 118525 for a 4-pole flat...
