Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located beneath the rear of the vehicle, along the driver's-side frame rail. Once you've plugged in the tow harness, connect the included jumper harness with relays to activate functions. This harness plugs into the 12-pin plug that is located behind the passenger's-side kick panel in your cab.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Video Transcript for Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 118525 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118525. This is the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-way flat trailer connector. This is a custom fit part number. Is designed to fit the Nissan Frontier, the Pathfinder, and the Xterra, starting in 2005, and the Suzuki Equator, starting in 2009. It includes everything shown here on the table. It includes the jumper harness, the tow-plug harness, 3 relays, some cable ties, some foam tape, and some nice detailed instructions. This will provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. It does connect quickly and easily.

It's all plug-in connectors. There's no cutting or splicing of wires. Basically, there's connection points you'll locate on your vehicle. It does include the required relays to activate all of the functions. On the 4-way, it's constructed of this 16-gauge bonded wire.

You'll also note that it includes this nice rubber dust cap, that when you're not using the 4-way you can just pop right over to protect the terminals from any damage or from the elements. Specs on this harness, the max amperage is 7.5 amps per circuit. Basically, the way this would install, what you'd do is go on your vehicle and where you'd connect the tow-plug harness to, there's a location point beneath the rear of the vehicle along the driver's side frame rail. Basically, you would just plug this . There will be a connector that will match to this. You just plug this in, and this will be at the back. This jumper harness, what you have to do there is it has .. This is located in the passenger-side kick panel, usually in the cab of the vehicle.

You'll find a connector that will match this one right here. Once you plug that in, then you'll have these three connectors. This is where the relay is. You would plug this one in just like that, then these other two you would line up and they would plug in just like that. Put them on this way, and then this one over here.

That will activate all the functions on your towing package. Then you'll have some zip ties or cable ties that will allow you take up any excess slack of the wire. Again, we did mention it has a nice set of detailed instructions. You can see pictures of where your location points are. This foam tape, with the tape sticky back on it, basically what that's used for is once this is installed in your kick panel and your relays are in here, you don't want this bouncing around. They give you some foam tape to put around it to protect so it doesn't rattle around in the vehicle. That should do it for the review on part number 118525. This is the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with the 4-way flat trailer connector. .

I've had the trailer hitch on my 2012 Xterra for about a year, and used it on a regular basis to pull motorcycle trailers. It has been absolutely flawless. This may seem like an odd thing to say about a trailer hitch, but I've seen friends who have had all sorts of problems with their hitches, from rattling to broken parts, and difficulty getting customer service from other companies. etrailer has a lot of videos to help you install your gear, if you're doing it yourself, and though I didn't have to call customer service, if they are anything like the ordering and install process support, I'm sure they're great. The videos even included how to put the relay harness in behind the kick panel. The videos are very thorough. In the case of an Xterra, you need to temporarily loosen the rear exhaust clamp so you can fit the hitch in. etrailer videos even include that, rather than just letting you try to figure it out. The only thing I'd suggest, which has nothing to do with the quality of the trailer hitch, is to make sure you clean out the bolt holes for the hitch bolts with a wire brush. I made the mistake of not doing so for the first bolt, and it was a double-wrench situation to get the bolt in. I cleaned out the other holes before putting the bolts in, and it was a piece of cake. Great job, ETrailer team, great product! 518307

2012 Nissan Xterra

My eTrailer purchase experience has been fantastic! Quality products, low prices, fast shipping, and great instructional videos. The Curt Trailer Hitch (#13514) is definitely a high quality product; I installed it on my 2012 Nissan Xterra PRO-4X. The fit was definitely tight. Not only did I have to remove the rear exhaust hanger per the instructions, I had to remove the mid-hanger just behind the muffler and loosen the hanger just in front on the muffler to get the required clearance. After that it just needed some friendly persuasion; i.e. a hammer. The hitch fits well, looks great, and only took about an hour to install with my 15 year old son. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with Relays (#118525) could not have been easier! I was only cautious of removing the passenger side floor sill and kick panel without a panel puller. Just took my time and didn't rush; panel puller really not required. Had the Xterra wired in 20 minutes. GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH eTrailer! They have gained a repeat customer!!! 38756

Nissan Xterra

I had previously bought a rear wiring harness from another vendor and wondered why my running lights did not work. After seeing etrailer.com's video and information about my Xterra I realized I needed the front harness and relays. I ordered the kit here and it was a snap to install after watching their video. I am happy to say that now all of my trailer lighting works perfectly. Shipping was fast too. This is a great website with all of the information you need. I will definitely come back for any future towing needs. 131384

2009 Nissan Xterra SE

This is a good product overall - I just installed it on my 2009 XTerra SE and it works. Since there is no moving parts I do not believe it is likely to break. However there are 3 minor issues with it: 1. Instructions could be improved. Just like Pete mentioned in his review, it was confusing for me at first, since I do not have much practical experience. It ended up to be simpler that I thought really. At first I thought that there should be 2 or more connectors to plug it in and I was breaking my head trying to find it. It took me some time to realize that I really just need to plug in connectors to the harness and then connect harness to the adapter on the car body. Once I realized it took no time at all to put it all together. 2. I am not sure if this is due to some code requirements, but I would make harness ends shorter in order to fit it better behind the panel. 3. Plastic strips that came in the package could be longer to allow to be attached to my hitch receiver. Overall it is a good product and I would recommend it to a friend. 32564

2012 Nissan Frontier

Bought a used 2012 Nissan Frontier with a U-Haul trailer light converter kit. The truck lights and the trailer lights were totally screwed. Ordered the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness (118525) and saved the day. Took longer to repair the truck's wiring harness that U-Haul screwed up, than to install the T-One harness. Best part had it shipped the cheapest way, got the part in 1 1/2 days. GREAT JOB ETRAILER ps live in a large metropolitan area and could not find this part anywhere 201164

I am extremely pleased with the product. I got the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with Relays, #118525, way sooner than expected and had it installed within 5 minutes. You just plug in the 12 pin connector to the already existing 12 pin plug located behind the passengers kick panel, secure it with zip ties, snap on the relays to the other end of the 12 pin connector, place the supplied foam pieces behind the wiring harness, zip tie the rest and you are done. The foam pieces will assist in keeping anything from rattling; may not be necessary if you use the zip ties properly but the foam is there, why not use it. The instructions mention using a test prob to make sure the wires are correct. I just hooked my trailer up to the green wire bundle trailer plug, which came with the kit, to make sure everything was correct. The prob wasn't really necessary. From my point of view, nothing can go wrong; it was too straight forward. 36777

This product is perfect for my Nissan 4X4. Bolt holes lined up perfectly,it was easy to install. That is, after getting in the dirt, much more fun than on a lift! The hardest part, was getting the receiver up on jackstands and positioning over the holes and fairly tight against the frame. Second problem was getting the plug for the wiring to come loose from the connector ( not having done it before ). On my truck, I zip tied the wiring a little differently than the instructions showed. I wanted it entirely up and out of the way of any brush and mud that might pass under the truck. I've installed several hitches over my lifetime. This one is by far and beyond the easiest ( even in the dirt ) I've ever done. Thanks etrailer for one that works as described!!!! :) Pictures won't post? either computer is full or broken. :( 378337

Installation was a breeze. I watched the video before doing anything. Great information. Followed the steps in the video and had no problems. After installation, I used a cheap circuit tester to see if my running lights (brown wire) on the 4-pole flat connector were now operational. Success! Everything works great. I had no running lights before installing this harness and the 3 included relays. My turn signals and braking lights worked, but not the running/tail lights on my boat trailer. I've been doing business with eTrailer for a few years now. They've got the best customer service, shipping times, and prices period. A big thank you goes out to the staff at eTrailer. Thank you for the fast, 2-day shipping and all-round excellent service. Vehicle info: 2008 Nissan Xterra SE 2WD Curt Hitch (from eTrailer) 110031

I ordered a Curt trailer hitch and wiring kit for my new Nissan Frontier on Saturday and it arrived the following Tuesday afternoon, well packaged and ahead of schedule. I am 71 years old and was able to mount the hitch and complete the wiring in less than 40 minutes (I did watch utube videos ahead of time to see the steps involved). Everything fit perfectly and the hitch looks great--total cost was less than $200 for both hitch and wiring kit. The dealer wanted $750 to install a hitch (I don't knowif that included the wiring--I didn't ask. The only unorthadox thing I had to do was prop one side of the hitch on a heavy-duty box near where it was to be bolted on while I lifted the other side into place to start the first bolt. I am verypleased with both the products and etrailers--THANKS! 399265

2010 Nissan Frontier

This product is exactly what I needed to wire a 2010 Nissan Frontier XE 4-Cyl without a tow package. I installed as specified in the instructions and video and had working trailer lights within 1 hour. This is my 3rd order from etrailer.com and each time the experience was impressive. My latest order was processed and shipped in LESS THAN 2 HOURS!! Even after placing the order at 6:42PM Pacific. That kind of record breaking customer service is borderline ridiculous. I make a living dealing with internet marketing, sales, and service and etrailer.com is beyond anything I have ever seen. Their easy to use and helpful resources saved me hundreds on my towing needs by doing it myself. Thanks etrailer.com!! 101563

I have no complaints it seems to work as desired my only gripe is the instructions could make it a little clearer on what plug you're using. But once you figure it out it's very simple to do Nissan does a great job of hiding the plug you really need deep inside that kickplate area but the trailer wiring kit worked well. My advice would be take it apart and just remember if you don't see the plug it's probably hidden but don't unplug anything that's already plugged in in that area even though the plugs would match in theroy to the trailer kit total install time for me was about 10 minutes after figuring out that that plug was tucked behind things. My only suggestion would be bigger zip ties 153226

The only issue I had was that I waited 3-1/2 weeks for the hitch to arrive, as etrailer had to wait for a shipment from the manufacturer. The folks at etrailer notified me about this immediatly and offered another brand of hitch which was in stock. Since I was in no hurry and the fact that I personally liked the design of the Draw-Tite better, I opted to wait. The hitch finally arrived last Thursday and I installed it on my 2011 Nissan Frontier after work Friday. Installation of both the hitch and the wiring harness was very straight forward and easy. This hitch was definately worth the wait. The folks at etrailer kept me informed of the progress during the entire process. GREAT PRODUCT. 303463

At first this might look too involved for the average person to install, but it's really user friendly. The harness with the relays is easy to put in & pretty much foolproof. Removing the sill plate & kick panel is not hard at all and you don't need a trim panel removal tool to do it either. Just use a fairly wide flat bladed screwdriver & use a little care and the panels come off easily. etrailer offers a short online video showing the installation that is much better than the instructions that come with the kit so a few minutes spent looking at that will answer just about any question you might have.. 69792

Excellent product! Had it installed in about 15-20 minutes. I like the fact that etrailer included everything that was needed -- even adhesive-backed foam -- to prevent rattles of the components!! My only suggestion would be to include some split wire loom so that the 4-pin connector wires can be protected from under the vehicle. It just makes the installation look cleaner. I tested the installation with a multi -meter, and everything works as expected. This is so much better, easier, and professional that the universal kits that you have to splice into the tail lights!! 243383

2009 Xterra 2 wheel drive. Installation time 20 minutes. Most difficult step was removing the factory cap on the plug underneath the vehicle at the rear. Slide the plug rearward to detach it from the frame for easier handling. Also, pop the floor sill UP using a trim panel puller (putty knife), starting at the rear end. Raise the floor sill about 2-3" to clear the alignment stems then pull rearward to detach from the front door post. I broke one of the stems by not raising high enough before I pulled it loose. Otherwise an extremely easy install. 43728

After installing the wiring harness in my 2015 Nissan Frontier SV 4x4, which took about 10 minutes all together it has worked each and every time without any issues. I live on a dirt/gravel road and the dust is terrible during the summer but the cover for the connector keeps the dust out and the connector clean. I pull a trailer for a ZTurn lawn mower so it gets a lot of use and I would definitely recommend the harness. Also Etrailer customer support was great at knowing what I needed with my vague description and quickly got it out to me. 287623

I was a little apprehensive about tearing panels out of my truck that is barely a week old. After watching the installation video a couple times I was ready. It was actually a lot easier that I thought it would be. And yes, the 12 pin connector was buried. I put the relays in and wrapped them in foam while at the kitchen table reviewing the video. It took longer to get the factory cap off the wiring in the rear of the truck than it took to do the wiring in the cab. Just finished and haven't hooked up a trailer yet but expect no problems. 56459

Great customer service. Wiring was delivered in 3 days and was emailed about progress every step of the way. Installation was a breeze thanks to Etrailer video.? Had a little trouble finding the connection but as I've read in other reviews it's in there. It really a matter of plugging in two connectors one in front and one near real axle...might be wise to buy a couple of longer tie straps to assist adhering the wires to the frame. This is as simple as it gets "if I can do it you can do it " Would certainly use Etrailer again. 216068

I'm really not handy and I just bought my car a couple weeks ago (my first in 12 years). I had no idea what I needed or how to install it but I really didn't want to pay the dealership hundreds of dollars for something I could do for about 1/4th the cost myself. I called e trailer and they explained the options I had for my SUV. They also had videos of how to install the part on the website which made is so easy that even I was able to do it. The price was right and it works great. 55681

I'm writing from Canada. I ordered the Curt receiver trailer hitch, and customized wiring harness. Although it took a while to get here, the product was exactly as specified, installed quickly with good instructions. One word of advice, use at hoist to install the hitch, laying on the garage floor and tightening the bolts to specs. just about did me in, maybe I'm getting to old. The wiring harness was a breeze to put in with excellent instructions. Good product and service. 396546

After much research, it was your website that helped me to purchase the correct wiring harness for my Nissan Xterra. It was so easy to install that I had my doubts it would work, especialy since I do not have factory parts for a hitch/wiring. The directions were precise and easy to understand. It only took 15 mins to install, and that was only to find the connectors. Plug it in and go! I am very pleased and would recommed purchasing from Etrailer to anyone. 76287

Very simple to install, just be careful when removing any plastic trim to not break any of it. Once you locate the connector behind the passenger kick plate, which might be hidden, you're home free. Plug the relays into the pigtail and the pigtail into the connector, tuck the pigtail and relays behind the existing wiring, replace the kick plate and trim, then install the trailer wiring into the connector on the frame behind the bumper. You're done! 237928

This is just install review, as I have. It used the product for any longer than a day. But get a 5 star review for install ease. Easiest install of trailer wiring out there. Other kits require splicing into existing wire. This simply plugs right into the vehicle. Does not take long to install. However, take your time when removing the inside panels so you don't snap a clip. Connection is solid. Lights work very well on my utility trailer. 364492

When I first looked at the wiring harness kit, I was a little intimidated. I started reading the instructions and quickly decided that the etrailer website was a better route to go. Sure enough, there was a video showing me exactly what I needed to do. Everything on the car was exactly where the video said it should be. The whole thing went together real easy. I was very happy with this product as well as how quickly it arrived. 146791

Wow! I've seen this kits avail for the last few years. Worth every penny. If you have ever installed trailer wiring it's a pain laying on your back with a test light. Literally 10min job. Harness plugs in inside the cab on the passenger side under the front kick-panel. Relays plug in to the same harness. Trailer end plugs into a factory plug at the bumper end of the truck. Clean, no fuss, excellent quality wires and connectors. 142567

2006 Nissan Xterra

After two units purchased from the trailer rental place burned out and jacked up the limited slip and abs relays(professionally installed by them) I was thrilled to find a plug and play unit. Quite literally, plug and run. So stinking easy. I think it is the best unit I could have found. Thank you. The hardest part was panel removal. It wasn't hard. Absolutely thrilled I found this. Happy towing for me. 2006 Nissan Xterra. 504572

Received the wiring harness the other day and put it on today. I watched the video first and it looked like a simple installation. They didn't lie, it was a real easy task. The only thing I forgot to order is the mounting bracket (18144). I'll probably live without it until I need something else from E-Trailer as the shipping would be more then the item. Thanks again for a great product and excellent service. 148076

the nissan xterra is semi prewired so this is really easy for anyone to do. the relay harness in the right front kick panel took 5 minutes to install and the short extension under the rear left only took another 10 to install and dress to the back bumper. I also purchased the mounting bracket for the 4 pole flat connector p/n 18144. it keeps the wires away from the hitch and makes the install look clean. 77002

2011 Nissan Xterra

Installed the T-One wiring harness,118525,on my 2011 Nissan Xterra PRO-4X in less than 15 minutes. Used this to replace a Uhaul powered tail light convertor that had went bad 4 times in the last year ruining one trip and almost ruining another. Now when I hook up my trailer I no longer have to hold my breath wondering when the trailer lights will quit working. Thanks etrailer and good riddance Uhaul. 138600

Tight fit, took quite a bit of my husbands and his buddy's man power to squeeze it in. Good to know that it wont be coming off anytime soon but it would have taken a lot less time and had been easier to have just slipped right in and been able to attach the bolts. Besides that, The product looks way nice and it is getting tested out today by pulling our four-wheelers up the mountain. Thanks Etrailer! 49653

Exact same kit at local Nissan dealer was $30+ more, so this was a great deal. Kit went in exactly by the video. Only problems I had were: 1) could have used an extra inch or so of the harness already inside the truck behind the kit panel on the passenger side; and 2) the plug in the rear of the truck was truly stuck in there and hard to get out. Definitely recommend etrailer.com and this harness! 112661

  • Are Relays Required to Activate the Trailer Wiring Harness on a Nissan Frontier
  • On the Nissan Frontier and other Nissan vehicles, if the vehicle did not come with a factory tow package it will not have a functioning wiring harness even if one, like # 118263, is added. There will be relays that will need to be inserted to make the trailer wiring harness fully functional. If your Nissan did not come with a factory tow package, you would need to use wiring harness # 118525. This harness comes with the relays needed and the wiring required to make everything functional....

  • How to Determine if a 2009 Nissan Xterra has a Factory Tow Package to Add Trailer Wiring
  • The easiest and definitive way to determine if your 2009 Nissan Xterra has a factory tow package is to give the VIN to a dealership and have them determine what options it came with from the factory. A another way would be to use a circuit tester, like # 3808 if needed, and test the factory connection point under the vehicle. It should show signals when the brakes are applied, lights are turned on, and turn signals engaged. However, even if it shows signals it does not necessarily...

  • How to Determine if 2005 Nissan Frontier has Tow Package for Installing Trailer Wiring
  • The pin needed to install the # 118263 will be on the frame of the truck, but what matters most is whether or not the rest of the tow package wiring will be present. You would need to remove the passenger side kick panel to the right of where a passengers right foot would be. If there is a harness plugged in there that looks like what's picture then all you would need is the # 118263. If not you would need the part # 118525 instead.

  • Which Wiring Harness is Needed For 2010 Nissan Frontier Without the Factory Tow Package
  • On the 2010 Nissan Frontier, if the vehicle did not come with a factory tow package it will not have a functioning wiring harness even if the Tow Ready Wiring Harness, part # 118263, is added. There will be relays that will need to be inserted to make the trailer wiring harness fully functional. The relays are not normally included on a vehicle if it does not have the factory tow package. • 10-Amp Fuse Keeps Blowing in 2011 Nissan Frontier When Using T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness #118525
  • If your Frontier running light fuse blows when you connect your trailer there are several potential causes. It could be that the trailer lights are demanding more current than can be provided by the harness, although this is unlikely since the TowReady Harness # 118525 can deliver up to 7.5 amps per circuit which is higher than many similar products. If your trailer has been modified by the addition of extra running lights these may demand more current than can be provided. What is more...

The correct wiring harness for your Frontier without a factory tow package would be part # 118525. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Nissan Xterra
  • All of the trailer hitches available for a 2011 Nissan Xterra are going to be Class III trailer hitches. This is good because that is exactly what I would recommend. A Class III trailer hitch is going to give you plenty of gross trailer weight capacity and the 2 inch receiver will allow you more options for accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. Basically, all 3 of the available hitches for your vehicle install in the same way. If you are looking to save a little money, go with...

  • Installing 7-Way Trailer Connector and Brake Controller on 2013 Nissan Frontier

The jumper and relays complete the tow package. For a brake controller, I'd recommend the Tekonsha Primus # TK90160 if you'll be towing a trailer with standard electric brakes or the Prodigy P2, part # 90885, which will work with either standard electric or electric over hydraulic braking...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness For 2011 Nissan Xterra
  • Many times you can tell what kind of connector you need by checking out the trailer. If the trailer has brakes you can bet you will need a 7-way connector on your 2011 Nissan Xterra. You would also need a brake controller if the trailer has brakes.
