Units arrived in a timely fashion. Unit fit well into a 2006 Dodge aftermarket flatbed. I did need to find other screws, as this unit is a bit thicker than the OEM one. Bedding of wires seems very good. I am a little unsure of the durability of the exposed wires from the connector to the back of the plug. I put several wraps of cloth tape followed by two of 'Electricians' tape on this one. [Note; this unit travels the ALCAN highway among others. All locales are noted for flying grit & gravel.] Connector worked 'right out of the box'. [I had a scare at first as the plug in tester would not indicate on the L. turn signal. It turned out to be the tester plug - NOT the purchased product!]
I anticipate this will be a great help in towing varied units. Not having to go under the bed for the OEM 4-wire connector will sure ease this older back!

We have now traveled many thousands of miles with this unit. There have been no problems. I would recommend this product to others without hesitation.

Plugged right in to my 06 Wrangler LJ which had a stock 7 pin connector. I had to do some modification of the mounting holes in the stock bracket which is basically a welded box that the connector slides into. That took some time required drilling at rather awkward angles.

Still holding up well after a year of use.

Supposed to be OEM,but had to mod it a little to fit. Otherwise, did correctly plug into chassis harness.

Worked as advertised. No issues.

by:

This item was a perfect fit just plugged it in and 4 mounting screws. Better than original with the 7 blade RV plug and also a 4 pole flat in the same unit. The service was excellent and I received it earlier than expected. I would 100% buy all my trailer wiring products from etrailer.com

by:

This plugged directly into my factory dodge wiring harness. Installations was super easy and I'm so glad I don't have to use that 7-flat 4 adapter anymore. Great product name brand and super clean install.

by:

Only problem I had was disconnecting the original plug from my 2004 Ram 3500. Great replacement. If a 70 Year old can install it, that tells you how easy it is.

by:

Good product, very easy to install. Seems to be well made, Works as expected. Really nice to have the seven blade and four pin in one unit. No need for adapter!

by:

When you have a truck that came with trailer wiring thats now 20 years old, the trailer wiring 8 pin plug simply gets worn out. Why not replace it with something better. THis part is that something better because not only is it an 8 pin plug it has an additional 4 pin plug for the simpler trailers that do not have the electric brake wiring or charging circuit for campers. This eliminates the need to have a converter plug for that simple wiring but retains the capability of the 8 pin for folks who have multiple trailers with electric brakes and simple trailers with stop running and left or right turn signals. Thanks etriler....you made my life easier and better.

Still a heavy duty after market non Original Equipment Manufactured Part....but its much much better than the original part from Dodge that wore out. Usually OEM parts are the best but not this time.. Thanks etrailer!!

by:

Bolted right on. Great look, good quality, rugged design. The bolts could be just a hair longer, was kinda hassle but could blame that on my aftermarket bumper! Would definitely buy again!

by:

The product fit exactly like I expected I had a very unique application and customer support provided all the information I needed. This is not my 1st time to purchase from etrailer I have looked at their Products and purchase from them several times over the years They have a very broad line of products and very competitively priced

Nice combination 7-blade & 4-pin connector which plugs into OEM wiring (Jeep Grand Cherokee) and mounts to existing hitch bracket. Easy install, worked great right out of box, and makes for a very clean look. etrailer ordering is very easy and shipping was quick. Thanks!

by:

I gave a 4 star because I had to move the ground wire to match my truck, when I plugged it in it did not work until I moved the ground wire, now it works great, the item shipped fast and it was basically easy to install

Sometimes the wires on the product do not match the colors of wire on the vehicle. It is easiest to see where they go with a circuit tester.

by:

fits nice 2008 dodge ram 1500, but the mounting holes with machine screw are torn loose from housing and causing entire assy to be flopping around thru bumper, The mounting holes are hollow standoffs and pull thru plastic, GREAT idea I love it, until you could no longer have it fastened to bumper, housing needs to be solid and not extruded standoffs

by:

I purchased this combination trailer plug assembly to replace my separately mounted and corroded plugs. I love that it is all in one unit. It is a replacement for Dodge, Chrysler etc..
I tested this new plug with my multimeter and reworked and connected it to my Ford F-250. It works GREAT and it looks good too!!!

by:

Easy to install, plugged right in, it was exactly what I was looking for!

by:

Solid product. I like the convenience of being able to use the blade or 7 way for my different trailers

Worked perfectly but in traded the Ram in about 6 months ago, so don’t really know how it’s doing a year later, but would imagine that it still would be ok

by:

I purchased this product for my 2007 Mercedes ML. Plug and play just like it says. Even fits in the Oem metal bracket. Nice not to have to carry a four pin adapter.

by:

Fits the factory bumper in my 2006 Ram 2500 perfectly. I don't know why Dodge didn't combine the 4 way like this to begin with. The factory plug is just slightly better built than this one, mainly in the hinge mechanism. This is a great addition though.

by:

Good product and was easy to install. Been working great for the last year.

Its been perfect!

by:

My factory cinnector door broke eo i boight this which plugged right into the factory harness, the mount that is included is a little flemsy. But you get what you pay for! All the lights work on both my trailers!

by:

The plug was shipped quickly and works fine. Unfortuntaly it was shipped with mounting screws that were 1/4 inch to short and I had to run to the hardware store for new ones.

by:

The plug itself works fine but disappointing that the 7 way cover broke off within 2 weeks, so now you have to have tape or a zip tie to keep trailer end connected to truck.

by:

Easy install on my Dodge. Took about ten minutes (including removal of the old plug) and I was back on the road with working trailer lights.

by:

A great OEM replacement for my 2001 Ram 2500. I’ve used it for over a year now without any issues. I highly recommend this product.

  • Recommended 4-Way Flat Connector that Retains the Function of Factory 7-Way To Power Accessory
Since you already have the factory 7-way, you only need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C55384. This will install right behind your 7-way to give you the 4-way plug you need for your backup camera. This will retain the functionality of your 7-way as well.

  • Installing Brake Controller on 2007 Dodge Ram with Factory 7-Way or Factory 4-Way Trailer Connector
If your 2007 Dodge Ram already had a 7-Way, then all you would need to do is connect the Hopkins Replacement harness, # 42145, and install the brake controller and plug it in to the factory tow package plug. If your Ram had a factory 4-Way, there are a couple of more steps. Start by plugging in the brake control adapter into the OEM harness located under the steering wheel, just to the right of the emergency brake pedal. Then find a place to mount the brake controller. Look for a connector...

  • How to Install 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2017 Jeep Wrangler JK Without Tow Package
Your 2017 JK Wrangler won't have the connector at the rear for the # 42145 unless it was equipped with the factory tow package. No worries, though. We can make this happen with a minimum of hassle, though it's not quite plug-and-play. You'll first need to access the taillight circuits of the Wrangler using a T-Connector like # 118416. To convert that over to a 7-way, you'll need our 7-way upgrade kit for wireless brake controllers, part # ETBC7L. The kit includes an adapter to convert...

  • Replacement 7-Way Trailer Connector for a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500
Replacement connector # 42145 only has 7 pins because there are only 7 functions in a 7-Way. It is possible the factory connector has some other circuit in it but it would not be used by the 7-Way. Or like you said it could be a dummy pin. Connector # 42145 is not listed as a fit for the 1999 Dodge Ram though. It is possible that it will fit I just can't guarantee it. We do have the similar EZ Connector # 319-S7-06D but if you went with it you would also need adapter # 319-R7-52.

  • 7-Way Trailer Wiring for a 2000 Dodge Durango without a Factory Tow Package Connection

There is not a connection point for the factory replacement connector, # 42145, that you mentioned. If you need to install the 7-Way and need to have functionality for a brake controller and 12 volt power supply for towing you will need additional wiring and circuit breakers. • GM and Dodge 7-Way Blade Plugs Not Wired The Same
In my experience most factory 7-Way connectors are wired the same. You may have a aftermarket 7-Way connector installed on one of the two vehicles that has been wired differently or you may have a factory 7-Way that has been rewired to match a trailer that has a different wiring configuration. I would use a circuit tester, item # PTW2993 if needed, to check the connectors inside both trucks 7-Way. I would then make a diagram of each vehicles connections and check the wiring with the standard...

It looks like you're wanting to install a 7-way on your vehicle, is that correct? Our most popular brake controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. It is a pretty easy controller to use and is quite effective. • Why Are My Trailer Tires Locking Up In Reverse?
Yes that very well may be causing your trailer to act funky. Usually when this occurs it has to do with solenoid on the reverse lockout not getting voltage. Sometimes this can be attributed from a corroded connector or your wiring has become damaged. I recommend inspecting your connectors, and ensure that there is no corrosion or damage to the connector. If there is damage, you can replace the adapter with # A10-7275VP. Additionally, if you need a new 7-way connector we do sell a variety...
