Since your 2000 Dodge Durango does not have the tow package wiring installed you will need to install a working 4-way connector, # 118334, first and then install a 4-way to 7-way adapter, # 37185. There is not a connection point for the factory replacement connector, # 42145, that you mentioned.
If you need to install the 7-Way and need to have functionality for a brake controller and 12 volt power supply for towing you will need additional wiring and circuit breakers. We have an installation kit, # ETBC7, that includes everything you would need after installation of the 4-way connector mentioned above. We also have detailed instructions for each of these wiring harnesses for you to review, see link.
Finally, we have an installation video of the brake controller wiring kit being installed on a 2006 Dodge Durango, see link, that you should find helpful.
If you need to install a brake controller for electric trailer brakes, I recommend the Prodigy P2 brake controller, # 90885, for your Durango. This controller installs and sets up easily and is one of the best selling brake controllers we have.
