Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Is the four-way flat factory connector on your Ford missing, damaged, or even just chopped into from a previous owner like ours is today Then if so, check this out. This is the Curt OEM Replacement Four-Way Flat Harness and we're gonna be showing you how to install it on our 2017 Ford F-150. Here's what that Curt wiring kit is going to look like once it's installed on your truck. And really not a whole lot to it. You know, it's a great solution for those of you whose original ones got damaged or cut into, whatever the case may be.
It utilizes the factory type connection so it just plugs right in and you're gonna have that four-way, right, so you get your turn signals, your brake lights and your tail lights. It's gonna work exactly the same way that your OEM one did. Now a couple things I do wanna mention as far as mounting this up. So a lot of these trucks have a factory bracket where your four-way flat connector originally was. This won't just, you know, pop right back into there, you know what I mean It's not gonna fit into there and get held in place so you're not able to reuse this at least without modifying it.
I suppose, one thing that crossed my mind, is you could maybe drill a couple holes there and use a zip tie or something like that. What I chose to do was just run it over here to our trailer hitch around the safety chain openings, secure it that way. And I used about a foot long piece of wire loom too, just to kind of cover everything up, help it blend in a little bit better. Another option for mounting would be to use a bracket like this, a four-way flat bracket. You can pick these up right here at etrailer.
You know, you could mount it to the bottom of your bumper beam or something like that and secure it that way. You know, doing that would allow you to feed that through there and have a little bit better of an installation look. Other than that, not much to talk about. You know, that's really about it. I think it's really convenient that there's an option like this for those of you who find yourself in that situation where you need a replacement end.
Curt even makes wiring harnesses that'll tie in to your existing factory wiring and convert it to a seven-way round type connector as well. So if that's what you're looking to do, you can always check this out if need be. As far as the installation goes, I mean really nothing to it at all. You literally unplug the existing connector, plug this one in, route it over here and secure it how you like. But if you want to hang around, see where that connection is and things like that, feel free to, we'll go ahead and get started on this now. To begin your installation, you're gonna be underneath the back of your truck on the driver's side. and it definitely helps if you temporarily lower or remove your spare tire. Just gives you a lot more room to work, so I've done that. But we need to locate our factory connector plug, which is this one right here, kind of sitting on top of this cross member. And we'll go ahead and unplug our existing stock damaged harness. So that's what it looks like. And what you wanna do, there's a little tab and it kind of helps, honestly, when this is already plugged in, if you push it tighter together, push down on that tab real hard and then pull the two apart. That's how you separate 'em. You could take our new harness now that end's gonna be the same, just plug that right in. There is gonna be a white wire that has a pre-attached ring terminal and that's gonna need to be grounded. I'm just gonna use the provided self-tapping screw and secure it to this clean piece of metal right here. (tool banging) What I've done now is just routed our wiring. I used a couple zip ties just to secure it, but dropped it down, brought it along through here, dropped it out down by our trailer hitch. And in our case, I just use the dust cover to secure it to the safety chain opening. Now it is a good idea to test your wiring just to make sure that it's working properly. I like to use a tester like this as opposed to just plugging into a trailer. And I say that because if the trailer happens to have any issues, it could mislead you, thinking it's something you did wrong on the vehicle side. With that in mind, we'll try our left turn signal, our right turn signal, we'll hit our brakes and turn on our taillights. Now that we know it works, you can go ahead put the spare tire back into position if you ended up lowering yours. And just to help kind of clean up our installation look, I decided to add about a foot long piece of wire loom to cover up our wires there, just to help it blend in a little bit better. But with all that done, that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the Curt OEM Replacement Four-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Harness on our 2017 Ford F-150.
This harness for my Ford F-150 was a perfect fit. When I bought my truck it had a hitch but no light harness and everywhere local wanted $50+ dollars. This was an excellent price and so easy to install. Took me a few minutes. All you need is a power screw driver to screw the ground wire down and plug in the harness and that’s it. Definitely recommend this to anyone!
I can not be happier with the service and product. I received the Draw Tite Class III trailer hitch on time as expected. From start to finish and by myself, it took me exactly 15 minutes to install. I did not need to lower spare tire and it looks clean and neat on the truck. It took me longer to open the cardboard box. Thank you for your great service and follow up and I will highly recommend you in the future.
After an long search to find this products ETrailers was the only company I could find to carry this product. I will definitely continue doing business here. Great communication, great product and extremely quick shipping.
