Question:
I have a 2012 F150 3.5 ecoboost but has no trailer connections at all. So I need everything from the brake controller to the 7 pin plug. I do have a class IV hitch now installed. What do you recommend for the wiring installation. Just a short note, I am a licenced mechanic so wiring is an easy thing for me to accomplish. Thanks very much

In order to install a 7-way trailer connector and brake controller on a 2012 Ford F-150 you will first want to start with a 4-way trailer connector, the Replacement OEM Wiring Harness for Ford F-150 part # C56110 which is plug and play. Once we have the 4-way trailer connector installed we can then convert this to a 7-way with the 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Adapter part # ETBC7. The 12 volt power and brake output wires should be tapped off near the spare tire somewhere but if not this kit comes with the wires and breakers needed to run these up to the battery and cab.
For a brake controller, the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller part # TK90160 is what I recommend. If you look under your dash there should be a 4 pin connector up by the emergency brake pedal and if you have that then you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 22292 for a plug and play install but if not the 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Adapter has what you need to hardwire it in.
