Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's electrical junction box, which is located in your rear cargo area, beneath the trim panel on the passenger's side

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Installed in 2007 Honda Odyssey. Simple and quick with install video. Plan to pull light duty rental trailer.

Ordered it with hitch receiver. Delivered together, well packaged. Installation was simple. Followed video and everything went according to direction. Have not had opportunity to test it on trailer, but I'm confident it will work.

This was an easy to install product. I followed the instructions up to the placement of the end of the 4-pole connector. I routed mine into the bumper so I could leave a 7 pole connected to it more permanently.

This is a great hitch! It's well made and bolted right onto my Honda Odyssey. I'm using my hitch to tow a small trailer for getting rid of yard debris. Now I don't have to go out and by a truck. This was very easy to install and it came with everything needed!

I just love it . The hitch and wiring system took a little more than an hour to install . It looks great too ! I can't wait to use it . Thank you

I installed this wiring harness to my 2009 Honda Odyssey. The Curt wiring harness is quality built, a great price and very easy to install. The video was extremely helpful for visual learners like myself. The shipping was fast and the service from etrailer was exceptional.

Still works like it should. In fact I just moved from Fort Hood to Las Vegas and pulled my bike trailer with no issues in the wiring or signaling. I appreciate the follow-up.

I have a 2005 Odessey, this wiring harness was simple and made with high quality parts. I watched the install video and made it extremely easy to install. I called the Honda Dealership prior to seeing this item and there price was 4x higher and would take a week to get. I ordered this part and it was delivered in 2 business days.

Very Pleased with etrailer.com Thank you!

I love your website and doing business with you was about as good as any I’ve done anywhere. Plenty of helpful info, easy to search and navigate, checkout was straightforward. I sure wish other places were this helpful and easy (and fast!) Maybe you could market your platform and concepts...
Best of all, the product arrived fast, in good condition, and installed exactly as described. Oh yeah, love the detail and variety of the videos too!

Thanks again!

Works great after a year and a cross country move, no trouble at all. Finally figured out why the pigtail is so long...it’s supposed to be routed under the trunk threshold trim piece so you can stow the pigtail in the tire jack compartment on the left side of the van. Dunno how I missed that in the instructional...d’oh.

by:
2008 Honda Odyssey

Incredibly easy to install, with the instructions it took me less than 10 minutes. The 4 pin connecter that goes to the trailer has enough wire that I was able to run it through the inside of the panels and keep the connecter inside the van when I am not using it keeping it from the weather and corrosion. I originally bought it so I could rent a uhaul trailer and the wire is long enough that I didn't need an extension to the 4 pin for the lights.

by:
2009 Honda Odyssey

It was easy to install and I liked how it could be tucked away. For the first couple months it worked fine. Although now it no longer works properly,, I am not sure of the cause. It may have nothing to do with the quality of the kit. If I find that the kit can be replaced and it wasn't the cause I would then give it a higher rating. I didn't see any explanation for the problem which is the the brake power stays on and the right blinker side doesn't work at all. I already had the trailer checked to be sure it wasn't the problem and it works fine on a battery. I am still testing the vehicle side but vehicle lights all work fine.

by:

Easy to install, great instructions, great product. I removed the taillight on the passenger side and drilled through the triple wall between the two vertical mounting bolts. I de-burred all 3 surfaces, and used grommets for the holes. I used a 1/2" hole and appropriate grommets (not included) to prevent wire chafing. I also split the wires into individual sections along that part to prevent binding when pulling through the holes. I measured about 12" from the Curt junction box and cut the wires so I didn't have to make a hole big enough to fit the plug into, (this may void the warranty, but I'm not pulling my paneling and dragging a wire out my tailgate every time I hook up a trailer.) I then dropped the plug down into the rear bumper compartment and fished it to my mounting bracket. I hooked everything else up as instructed. be careful not to chafe the wire pulling it through the holes or fishing it inside the bumper, and don't pinch it when re attaching the taillight. add electrical tape anyplace you "think" it may rub for extra protection. The whole thing took about 2.5 hours, but I have a well equipped shop and fabricate vehicles for a living, you might allow extra time, but nothing is really hard.

2010 Honda Odyssey

I just completed installation of the
trailer light harness and I am very satisfied - it is working fine.

The only problem I encountered was likely due to ignoring the included instructions because I thought I knew enough watching the video on the internet showing installation in a 2010 Honda Odyssey which I have. Item number 4 of your instructions mentions the 10 amp (larger size) in-line fuse and I had ignored reading it. I finally "got smart" and found a soft rubbery, red "in-line fuse box" that is part of the wiring harness included in the kit that receives the 10-amp fuse.

Everything about your product is top-notch: materials, instructions, helpful personnel and thoughtful follow-ups. The completeness of your kit down to the little zip-locks leaves little to chance for human error.

by:
2005 Honda Odyssey

Everything and more included in the package and wiring was very easy. Helped that etrailer had videos of installation to follow along. Make sure to check your trailer wiring thoroughly first though as I installed this and it still didn't work----wasn't a problem with this wiring kit, but the trailer itself. Now with that solved this product is still working great.

This wiring harness is one of the easiest trailer wiring harnesses I have ever installed. It plugs in the pre-existing board behind the rear passenger side panel, secure a ground wire, install 2 fuses and mount with provided double side tape and you are done. I would definitely buy this again. so much easier than chasing wires .

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2007 Honda Odyssey
Honestly, either the Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # C56161 or the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118438 would work for you since they basically do the same thing. However, Curt uses a more modern style circuit board that builds less heat and generally lasts longer than the style of circuit boards that are in the Tow Ready converters so I would go with the # C56161. I attached installation instructions for the # C56161 for you to check out also.

You can double check the connections and make sure there are no bent or broken pings, corrosion in the connections, or corrosion at the ground location. Any of these things could cause a short.
