Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Unit didn’t fit exactly. Angle of weld was off by just enough to require cutting out slot of 2nd bolt hole on one side.
Lucky I have those tools/skills or it would have been returned.
Crazy heavy duty unit but there is inches of room there to work with and the tolerances are obviously not tight enough. See pics. Other side was pushed to tolerance level (about 1”) and side shown was still not capable of bolts 2 and 3 to pass through. Had to grind out u hole to a ‘slot’ by grinding out metal from outside to slot.

Comments
It sounds like your hitch was flexed. I will attach a help article regarding flex. It also sounds like your weld nuts needed cleaned, as they can sometimes have debris and rust in them. The instructions say no drilling is required and that the passenger side needs lifted over exhaust first.

2014 Honda Odyssey

So far so good. Took approximately an hour to install, including unpacking the hitch and cleaning out the weld nuts. While potentially possible to install on your own with strategically placed supports, it's more realistic to install with two people, even if one of them is just lifting, steadying, and holding the hitch in place while you do all the work. Everything lined up perfectly. Didn't even need to put the van up on ramps. Trimmed the plastic fascia on the driver side as shown in the video instructions and worked like a charm to reinstall.

Test fit our bike rack (which is our primary intended use) and everything fit snuggly. So far, very happy with the purchase.

2017 Honda Odyssey

Everything came very quickly and was 100% compatible. Using the video for the hitch installation was a huge time save. First time installing a hitch and wiring and had it done in under 2 hours. Installation on 2017 Honda Odyssey and can confirm the 2016 model tutorial is identical to my 2017 model.

by:

This hitch was super easy to install, the videos online were extremely helpful when installing. Make sure that the weld nut threads are clean of rust and debris, as the two on the passenger side of mine were rusted and needed a lot of cleaning. Also putting a bolt in and threading in and out and cleaning with WD 40 helped for a much easier install. The hitch fits up nicely against the bottom of the bumper, there is no reason not to be pleased with this hitch. Great product!

It is installed and has been used a few times. Looks good as well. Super easy install with the video assistance!

by:

My order arrived super quick and in good condition. Installing the hitch was a pain only due to a rusted weld nut on the van's frame. All in all, I would order from eTrailer.com again.

2016 Honda Odyssey

This is a great trailer hitch. Moderately easy to install. You HAVE to spray and clean out the weld nuts before installation and test fit the M12 1.25 bolts before install. I did not. And had to remove it then clean then reinstall. Simple ACE hardware run to the plumbing section for a round wire brush used to clean the inside of copper pipe. (4$). Once I did that I was able to prop the hitch on the scrap 2x4 to take the weight off a bit and bolt her right in there. Since my socket set only had a 10 inch handle, I had to borrow a friends electric wrench for the last few UggaDuggas to make sure it wasn’t ever going anywhere. Super simple install if only I followed the instructions and CLEANED THE NUTS OUT FIRST!

Comments
Cleaning the weld nuts can be a tedious process with lubricant and a wire brush. Here is the process outlined in this help article:

by:

No issues installing. Everything went fairly smoothly. I did have to purchase a tap and die set to clear out the threading on my 15 year old van. The pull-wire for the bolt was very handy! I’d recommend to others and would purchase again.

by:

The trailer hitch is awesome. I installed on our 9 year old 2011 Honda Odyssey. Like mentioned in other reviews, I had to purchase a tap ($x from [Hardware store]) and used silicon lube, even though the holes looked clean. I just had to periodically spray the lube into the tap's channels and installation was easy. See photos. I tried without the tap and it was impossible.

by:

Only issue I had is the holes didn't line up, they were off about 3/16", so I had to alter it to fit. I knew this going in as someone else had mentioned this in a review, perhaps increasing the tolerance on each end an 1/8" would make for a more universal fit. Otherwise, seems to be a very well made, heavy duty hitch.

by:

Easy to install, appreciate the videos. Looks clean on the underside of the van, has been a game changer with our adventures in the minivan!

by:

Great, straight forward installation. I debated between the 'hidden' version and the bar version. As far as I can tell from pictures, the OEM hitch is hidden in the center area, but the sides stick down similar to this style, so it's doesn't look that clean. There is a Draw Tite 76025 version that looks to be hidden on the sides as well which gives the cleanest look, but a lot more effort to remove the bumper, etc. This one isn't very noticeable, and hey, it's a mini-van - convenience is more important than looks. I don't believe the Draw Tite gets the hitch up any higher, looking at all the other videos, pictures, etc. So I opted for the etrailer version instead of the Curt, as the price was a bit better. I debated whether I should put the rear end up on floor jacks to give me a bit more room. Feeling lazy, I didn't, and probably should have just to give me a bit more working room. Couple notes that might help - Removing the drivers side underbody panel (that you can discard when finished or reinstall), there's a step where you unscrew a Phillips screw that is tucked in the wheel well. My minivan has the black plastic mudflaps, and even though there is a hole through them to access that screw, I removed the mudflaps - made it way easier to get to (and re-install - I chose to trim the plastic fitting and re-install). Also, on the passenger side, you can work around the exhaust pipe, but it's kind of in the way - I should have pulled it off the hangers (see the Curt hitch video) - would have saved a few curse words and socket extensions, etc. Don't forget the bristle brush to clean the weld nuts. Also, thread the bolts in once without the hitch in place, to make sure they'll go in smoothly. Overall, a pretty easy project to complete. One other plus - the fish-wire bolt installation is brilliant - it does go in as easy as the video shows, and works great. My only complaint is that I wish I had a hoist... :) Good luck!

by:

Perfect Fit. One suggestion I would make for those looking to install this themselves is to dry fit the bolts into the welded frame nuts first to see if they go in easy. The two nuts on the passenger side of my vehicle had quite a bit of rust build up in the threads. I ended us using a dremel tool with a small brass brush fitting and a lot of PB Blaster to clean them
out. (refer to video) The other suggestion I would make is to USE a torque wrench to be sure they are as tight as recommended-you don't want to fool around having them be too loose…or possibly go to tight and snap the bolt and/or weld nut.

Overall- Great Fit-Great Design-We will see how she holds up.

by:

E trailer is amazing in how easy it makes finding a hitch which will fit your vehicle, and THEN they go the extra mile and post detailed videos on how to install it. Love this! One thing to note is that our hitch was about 1/4 inch too narrow for the factory installed bolt holes on our vehicle. After some choice words, and brain storming, we were able to knock out the sides of the hitch with some good wacks with a rubber mallet. We got everything to line up perfectly. I think it was just a spoof, but I wanted to mention this in the event anyone else finds themself in a similar situation.

by:

Great hitch! Installation was pretty easy. Installation took my wife and I just over an hour. The video posted on[line] by etrailer was spot on for instructions. Definitely a two person install, due having to hold in place. Installed on 2017 Honda Odyssey.

by:
Honda

I was happy to find that this hitch fit my Honda perfectly and was such a good price. I was able to install it myself and further save the cost of installation.

by:

I asked my mechanic if he recommended any specific aftermarket trailer hitches for our Honda Odyssey. He didn't hesitate to say, "Use etrailer. They're the best." Ordering was easy, shipping was fast, price was right, and the install was straight forward. With kids, it's nice being able to throw a bike rack or hitch hauler on the back to free up some room inside. I'd highly recommend etrailer!

by:
Pontiac Trans Sport Van

Great fit and easy to install on my honda Van. I use the van to transport my mower more that I use my truck.

by:

Came with box damaged, hole in end, tried to mount on my Odyssey, alignment was off about 1/2 inch, could be from shipping. Took it to my car guy, $115 bucks later it was on. I don’t feel it was your company’s fault, maybe better packaging could of prevented it from flopping around in the box. I’m happy with look and material strength. Thank you!

Comments
It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a FAQ that can assist with moving the side brackets of the hitch back into alignment to allow for installation. I also recommend touching up the hitch with a rust resistant paint which you will have on hand for regular hitch maintenance.
