The bed extender is a wonderfully useful piece of gear. This is the second one I have purchased. The price is right and the quality is tops. It has proven to be an elegant and cost effective solution for our needs.

Just received the product, I am most impressed how I can fold it up in the boundary waters and store it in my truck while I’m camping!
Excellent construction
It's a little wobbly in the hitch and doesn't sit up as high as I would like to, just under flush with with my tailgate height. But overall it works for what I need it to do.

Thank you for your review. The Erickson Big Bed Load Extender adjusts to 20 inches tall. If you need an option with more height, I recommend the Yakima LongArm Bed and Roof Load Extender part # Y01149-1150 which can be adjusted to 46 inches.
Overall the extender was a great buy and good quality. Just disappointed it does not come with its own hitch pin and it just barley supports my long canoe.

You are right in that these extenders do not come with a hitch pin. What I would recommend for it would be an anti rattle lock like part # 63232. It will add safety along with anti wobble in the receiver. The distance from the center of the pin hole in your hitch receiver to the outer edge of the extender is 49.5 inches. This is long enough to work with most canoes and kayaks however you will want to measure to make sure. The longest extender that we offer is part # MAL32VR which would be 53 inches out.
This product is truly a life saver. December 2014 I had an aortic dissection(bad really, really bad news!) My chest is now healed but it's held together with titanium wire. Lifting our kayaks onto the roof racks was not gonna happen. With this we're back on the water. Just lock it in the truck hitch and strap your kayaks in and don't forget your paddles. I love it.
My sales person did an excellent job finding and helping me get my order done.
Was just what I needed to carry my Canoe in back of truck bed without having to put up on racks. Much easier at ground level getting on and off vs rack height by myself.

Erickson big bed load extender worked great for carrying my 14 ft canoe on fishing trips with my granddaughter and so much easier than trying to load on top!

Decent unit for the price. There is a little bit of play in the vertical bar so I just slip a washer in between the bar and the tabs when I put the pin it.
The Erickson Big Bed Extender is a great design & is very well built. When attached to my 2013 F150 w/6.5 ft bed, it extends 11 feet from the front wall of my truck bed providing plenty of support for 12 ft and longer loads with plenty of hooks for tie down straps. I bought this extender to haul a 17 ft long kayak for ease of loading and less wind resistance vs an overhead rack system. As an added bonus, when folded up, it's super easy to store behind the seat or haul in the bed of the truck when not in use. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a handy way to increase the versatility of their pickup truck. Dear jmhawk, I just bought the erickson big bed extention 07601 to make into a high mount. It would benice if they included some instructions.
Easy to set up. It solved the problem of hauling my extension ladder and lumber. I was impressed with etrailer.com service. After submitting the order online, I realized I had made an error. I called the 1-800 and got quick service, and received a followup call, that did not have to be made, but showed their level of service commitment. I learned about the Bed Load Extender from a review in the Journal of Light Construction. I found etrailer.com by chance online, am glad that I did, and look forward to my next purchase with them.

Great. My pickup has a short bed, and this took care of that shortcoming. Well built, durable and folds into a compact size!
I use this for hauling lumber. It's very sturdy and easy to assemble. Also once assembled it goes on and off the truck in seconds. Easily handles 14 foot boards probably could go 16 but I haven't tried yet.

Nice product. Would have been nice had UPS delivered it properly - the box was open. And not surprising, the pin was missing from the assembly. Not your fault etrailer but still a slight inconvenience.
It’s the best on the market! We had our extender delivered overnight for a canoe trip we originally didn’t plan on attending. The folks Etrailer followed up with a phone call after placing my order to ensure all info was correct and it shipped exactly on time for us to make our trip.

The bed extender is great. Folds up nice and is very stable with a load. Highly recommend the extender. Not so sure I can recommend etrailer anymore. I have made 4-5 purchases from etrailer and had never disappointed. However this time, what received was clearly a return that wasn’t even inspected. Box was hastily taped, nuts and bolts loose in the box, 1 nut missing, and the extender partially assembled. Very disappointing.
Great quality, finish and fit. This will be a good solution to transport my kayaks.
I have used it to transport my 13’ foot kayak and also 12’ of ladder in the 6 1/2’ pickup truck bed and it worked great. It was also easy to assemble and it’s easy to install in hitch. I am very satisfied with this extender.

It’s been a year since I wrote my review and I am still very satisfied. I don’t use it often but when I do it’s great. It’s quick and easy to install in the hitch of my pickup, securing my kayak and other equipment is intuitive. I am also impressed at how strong and sturdy it is. It’s definitely well made.
Wow, that truck bed extension really works! You may use this photo for publicity. I drove from Minneapolis to remote Minnesota to my off grid place...about 6 hours with no issues whatsoever! When we went to pick up the trusses at Menards, the guy doing the loading said "no way" can you get that in your truck!! Guess he was wrong

Arrived missing two bolts and one locknut, appears to be an open box with very little packaging from the manufacturer.
This is a heavy duty bed extender for most anything that you can throw on it. Good for long boards or kayaks, huge logs, etc.
