Looking For Truck Bed Extender For Carrying Large Items With The Tailgate Down
Updated 01/29/2026 | Published 01/20/2026 >
Question:
hi, can you help me find a very specific truck brand accessory? It is a strap system that has a center pouch that cradles or holds long items in a sling at the back of the bed. You would use it for items that would stick out of the bed when the tailgate is down.

Hello Warren, thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you are looking for bed extender. We do have those, but nothing with a center "pouch" like you are describing. What we have are load extenders that attach to a 2" hitch receiver. Take a look at the following:
- Erickson Big Bed Load Extender for 2" Hitches - 400 lbs # EM07600
This attaches to the rear hitch and gives you a 48-1/2" wide extender for supporting larger items like ladders or lumber. It has tie downs on each end so you can place your item on the extender, strap it down and go. It has a 400 lb capacity so it can handle even larger and heavier items.
What kind of stuff are you needing to haul? Lumber for a project, conduit for work, or rods/kayaks for a trip?

This worked well for me. Nissan Frontier. Hauled 16' 2bys and anticipate kayaks and canoes. No complaints or issues.

The Erickson Extender has worked well for transporting and stabilizing my 12'6" Fishing Kayak in my F150 with a 5'5" bed. I recently purchased a Ranger that has a 5' bed and in the few times I used it at the end of summer it also worked very well. This is a good quality product that I would recommend!

It’s not a bed extender. Think of a slingshot pouch. It’s literally a piece of fabric with straps on both sides to secure your load with the rear tie down points on your bed when the tailgate is down. You would be able to put a stack of lumber in the middle of the bed and it would be cradled by the straps as they stuck out of the bed. My primary use would be to secure plywood in my 6.5’ bed and be able to store the straps inside my truck cab.
