Recommended Canoe Carrier For Short Bed Truck

Updated 05/22/2020 | Published 07/31/2017

Question:

I have short bed 6 pick up with bed tool box so only 4foot usable. Truck has 2inch receiver hitch. Id like bed extender rack to carry 16foot canoe but dont want to go on roof. Anybody make extra long to accommodate maybe 8foot instead of only 4? HITCH CARGO CARRIER/ERICKSON/LOAD EXTENDER Erickson Big Bed Load Extender for 2inch Hitches - 400 lbs

The longest load extender is the Erickson Big Bed Load Extender for 2" Hitches - 400 lbs # EM07600. This is 52-1/2" long x 48-1/2" wide. For a 16 foot canoe, there really isn't a good solution for such a short bed without going onto the roof. I recommend the Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist and Support Bar # RTL002 for your application.

If you really don't want anything on your roof, then I recommend the Malone MicroSport Trailer - Galvanized Steel Wheels - 13' Long - 375 lbs # MPG460G or the Malone MegaSport Kayak Trailer - 86" Crossbars - 14' Long - 1000 lbs # MPG535

I'm looking for the best solution to carry an 18' canoe on my 2017 F-150 short bed truck. If possible, it would be ideal to carry 2 canoes but it doesn't seem like there are great options for my particular truck. Any recommendations on the best overall solution for carrying 1 or possibly two 18' canoes on a 2017 F150 Limited? Thanks,

For your short bed F-150 I really like the combination of a crossbar on the roof and a load extender behind the tailgate for spaced out, stable support. The Rhino-Rack setup that consists of # RRVA150B, # RRRLKVAH, # RTL002, # DK427H will work great.
