Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms

Great product for my 2014 Wrangler. Good materials, solid attachment to vehicle, and looks good. The e trailer installation video was great for assisting installation. Made the install much quicker and easier. The most difficult procedure for me was disconnecting the wiring harness on the back of the bumper. An old tack puller (or tool of similar design) would have been great for leveraging the pins out of their holes. Cutting the air dam was a slow process to ensure I didn't cut too much. A paper template to mark where to cut the air dam would make this process much simpler. Again, I can't emphasize enough how great the installation video was for making the steps easier. 126011

etrailer service was great. Received my Roadmaster base plate in 3 days. The directions from Roadmaster were fair, but etrailer's video was excellent. I had trouble mounting my base plate as the space between the two baseplate ends were too tight. I needed to use a floor jack and bottle jack to get it on. Once it was in position everything went together fine. I trimmed the Jeep' air dam differently keeping the ends that Roadmaster wants you to cut off. I think it looks better. I also had to modify the center cut in the air dam to accommodate the breakaway switch I have.447255

Bought this product from etrailer with free shipping it was cheaper than I could get in town.. The baseplates are perfect for our 2014 Jeep Wrangler and our stowmaster 5000 tow bar. The unit is built to last with heavy steel plate and nice welds. Installation is pretty easy, you just have to remove the plastic air dam, and trim it up. Etrailer has a great video going over the install. I am pretty picky, and I didn't care for the way Roadmaster has you cut the air dam. If you take your time and look at photos of the way they cut it when you have your air dam off you can make it look much better. I have enclosed pictures of my install so you can see the difference. I purchased this EZ4 base plate to work in conjunction with the Falcon2 tow bar. It fit perfectly on my Wrangler Unlimited, and is tucked mostly out of site when not used. The two baseplate arms bolted to the cross bar of the Falcon2 are easily removed and stored away when not in use. Installation because of the weight and tight fit to the Wrangler frame, was found to be much easier with two people. 554274

Installed this baseplate on my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport unlimited for use with the Roadmaster StowMaster tow bar. After some confusion as to which baseplate (RM-521448-5 or the -4) to order, I finally got all of the components and have the vehicle “tow ready”. Baseplate install is simple, but make you you measure for the cut-out in the rubber rock plate. Directions say the cut-outs should be 9” long...make them 6”.
I also ordered and installed the Hopkins 56200 light kit which is a very easy install except for routing the wiring to the front. If you can get the vehicle on a lift it would be much easier. All together it took me about 5.5 hrs to complete the install and I did it all alone (65 years old). A younger person could probably cut an hour to 90 minutes off my time.782199

Installed on a 2015 Wrangler JKU.
Overall was an easy install with just one minor difficulty. The minor issue I had was with the 1/2” Tab Weldnut with rod (item # 16 in parts Diagram). This weld nut goes into a section of the Jeep frame that is boxed in and limited access to it hence the rod attached to it used for placement! This weld nut wanted to turn while tightening and was a little difficult to get it to tighten. It’s not designed for a wrench but I was able to get a 3/4 in open end wrench on the plate part of it and hold it for tightening. I think the intent in design is that it will turn up against the wall of frame and hold it from turning. It’s about 3/4 to short to contact the frame. This is a minor problem when installing the bottom side plate bolt on each side.
The baseplate fit very nicely and all holes lined up perfectly. Very well constructed and finished.
I trimmed the rock guard a little at a time to fit and can say that the instructions are good but say to remove a little more than needed on the depth. Take your time and trim a little at a time and trial fit it each time.

I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 only because of documentation. Need a video for the E4 bracket installation on a 2010 Jeep Wrangler. I did it all ... a diode wiring kit ... the tow bar and bracket installation ... and converted the Motorhome from a separate to a combined wiring system while adding a charge wire ... it took me two days. Very happy with the quality of the tow bar and bracket.228917

Great product...Good fit and appearence. The installation instructions were FAIR at best. There are alot of missing steps in the instruction sheet, so if you are not talented with tools let a professional tackle this job. Also if you are going to install these brackets yourself, I suggest that you raise the vehicle up on jack-stands or up on a lift. I did this install while all 4 tires were on the floor and it was very difficult to reach some of the bolts in order to tighten them. The most difficult part of this install is placing the front bumper back to it's original position. It can be done, but it is best to have a helper...you will have to apply some force!!

Take your time and test fit everything, hope this helps.

The Roadmaster base plate kit is well made and fit the Jeep JK very well. The assembly instructions were detailed and accurate with the exception of how to cut the plastic splash/rock guard under the bumper. I questioned the dimensions provided and checked prior to cutting. I was able remove less material resulting in a better fit.

The threaded plates with wire attached are not long enough to prevent spinning when torqueing the bolts attaching the bracket to the vehicle frame. I was able to use a 7/8 open end wrench to hold the plates while torqueing the bolts. A little frustrating but as there isn't much room to access the upper plate. Roadmaster should consider manufacturing those plates longer to prevent spinning.

The customer service from Etrailer was excellent. Tammie expedited my order and provided notification when shipped and delivered. Tammie is a 5 star representative and I appreciate her attention to my order.

Nice baseplate kit. Only problem is some of the holes didnt match up with the frame crossmember so additional holes had to be drilled . Nothing in the instructions referenced this. Also no mention of the Airconditioner lines that had to be move to place the top bolt thru the frame rails or that to drill the hole in the frame you have to raise the evap core or as an alternative measure and locate where the hole should be then drill from the blind side.931893

Thank you for your review. Referencing step 2 of the instructions it does say that due to manufacturing variances, the hole in the outside of the frame rail may not exist so some drilling may be required. As for the air conditioning lines and evap core, it sounds like your jeep has been slightly modified.

Grandson did most of instal)l. Had to drill some holes both sides in frame of 2016 Wrangler Sport. Nothing to major. Rest of install was just tightening bolts. No problems on 5000 mile cross cou try trip towing jeep behind 31 ft class C motorhome. Would recommend without reservation.1255106

All was delivered and I have installed it. Only thing wrong with the RM-521448-4 Roadmaster Crossbar-Style base plate kit was that one of the 1-*1/2" x 3"threaded backing plate would not tighten down. Had to toss it and put in heavy duty washer and Nut and tighten it down. Otherwise great product and easy to install.658514

The Roadmaster XL base Plate Kit was dead on, it looks and feels rugged, was welded together very well and the welds were cleaned up, the kit was painted well, I put the kit in over a two night period about 2 1/2 hrs a night, it went very well, I had alittle trouble seeing the pics in the directions, but once the front bumper is off it made more sense, I had a harder time removing the plastic pieces from my jeep than I did with the install of the brackets, in my opinion this is a great product, it fit perfectly.49758

The Roadmaster base plate looks to be a well built product with good welds and fit. The instructions are clear and the base plate bolted right in.
The tab for electrical plug was bent but easily straightened. I t could use some additional protection in shipping. 688227

very easy to install by myself in about an hour. all holes were already in the frame except for the 2 for the front lower cross bar. mine is a 2011 jeep other years may have them. Easy to drill had plenty of access room and easy to get to. looks good after install , sets back just far enough to hide most of it. very clean not sure i'm going to leave the the front splash shield on looks good with out it.894938
