2001 Ford Ranger - Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms

  • Removable Drawbars
  • Roadmaster
  • Hitch Pin Attachment

The crossbar-style hidden brackets attach to your Ford Ranger's frame to provide attachment points for your tow bar. The visible portions of the brackets can be removed when you are not towing.

Features:

  • Hidden bracket design - drawbars are easily removable via 2 pins
    • Improved aesthetics compared with standard brackets
  • Computer-cut, all-steel construction provides exceptional strength
  • Black powder coat finish is durable and corrosion resistant
  • Simple installation - no welding required
    • Custom base plates ensure a perfect fit for your vehicle
  • Compatible with Roadmaster tow bars with use of quick-disconnect crossbar (910021-00 - sold separately)
  • Instructions and mounting hardware included
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty

The square drawbars, or front arms, on the crossbar-style base plate kit are simple to mount and remove, easily securing with hitch pins. Once the drawbars have been removed, the remaining brackets are virtually invisible. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

Installed tow bar 483-1 plate on my 2006 Ranger 4wd XLT. Took 2hrs to install myself. Everything I needed was included, instructions were spot on. The hardest part was the 2 holes I had to drill which still only took 5 min to do. Installed loose until everything was in place and then tightened to spec.

Ordered my Towbar and received it in just 4 days. Product looks well built and was easily installed. I’m using this kit to move my Ford Ranger across country. Towbar goes on and removes quick and easily. etrailer was professional and understanding of my needs. Their staff was very courtious and have very good knowledge of their product. I Purchased the complete kit, including brake kit. I have not yet towed yet but I’m hooked up and all is working and ready to go. Will up date my experience and take some pics after my trip.

product looks very heavy duty, product should have better instructions with step by step including pictures. installation was easier when i took off front bumper (which wasn't in instructions) . i would have gave it an excellent review but instructions need improvement. also i called an installation location & they had ridiculous prices of $580-$640 for installation only.

I am very pleased with my experience with etrailer.com.

2003 FordRanger

Everything went smoothly, no missing parts no shipping damage and arrived fast. Online installation videos and written instructions made the project a breeze. Thanks etrailer for a pleasant experience.

by:

Product was very good and instructions were easy to follow. The price was right also. I also purchased the wiring kit to bypass the vehicle wiring system. Only problem was that once you drill the 1 Inch hole for the bulb holder unless your lens detach fro the back you have trouble getting the bulb in.

by:
2000 FordRanger

Product is well built. The instructions were clear and easy to read. I recommend removing the bumper for easier installation. Very slim design. I also recommend part# RM-222 for easier removal of towbar. This product will be used on a daily basis. Thanks E-TRAILER on an awesome product.

Product arrived promptly, all parts were there and in good condition. The install went as the instructions provided, although for this individual parts the instructions were little lacking. My interface with e trailer.com was a satisfying experience. Thank you

Great quality and directions. I was able to install on my 99 ford ranger in about 2 hours in my driveway then towed it 1200 miles with no problems.

The instruction wasn't aimed to my ranger. Once I figured out what it was talking about. I had a front plastic that I didn't need to

It would be nice to find the location to write a review. Mostly the instructions needs to be updated. I cut a hole in my air damn when I didnt need to. I have toad it for several long 980 miles each way and the setup worked smoothly. It is permanently mounted on my 99 Ford Ranger. It only took me a couple of hours to install and test it. Im happy with it.

etrailer service is and has always been stellar. My order was correct and was delivered very quickly. The only reason I made this a four instead of a five was that the rear bolt position of both base plate brackets where welded on crooked. Each small plate was at a different angle from each other. In my opinion whoever welded them wasn’t paying attention to quality control. Because I was on a time crunch for my departure on a trip and could not wait for replacements (and I needed the vehicle for local driving) I made the brackets work. Other than that the installation went smoothly and I was able to test tow my 2004 CRV a couple of times without incident.

Very impressed that they're the exact fabbed fit, and easy to install! These tow base plates are super sturdy!

  • Which Roadmaster Base Plate Kit Fits 2003 Ford Ranger XLT 4WD
I checked again with Roadmaster just now and the correct base plate for a 2003 Ford Ranger XLT 4WD is the part # 483-1 so what you have is the correct base plate kit.

  • Do I need to Remove the Tow Hooks on my 1999 Ford Ranger to Install Roadmaster Base Plate Kit 483-1
Removal of the tow hooks is not mentioned in the instructions, so it should not be necessary. This base plate kit does use many factory holes, but you will have to drill some 1/2 inch holes to complete the install. I have added a link to the instructions below for you to review.

I am not sure what exactly you have on your 2002 Ford Ranger but if you look behind one of your front wheels you should be able to easily determine if you have coil springs or not. If you check out the attached picture of the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 483-1 being installed on a 2003 Ford Ranger you can see the coil springs. If you don't have the coil springs then you have a torsion bar. Attached is a link to our fit guide for your Ford Ranger. If you let me know what you are looking...

The correct Roadmaster Base Plate Kit for your 2010 Ford Ranger Sport is the part # 477-1. This is specifically designed for your Sport model Ranger and will work perfectly. The Roadmaster # 483-1 that you referenced is for earlier model Ford Rangers (1986-2006) so it won't fit your 2010 model truck.

  • Will Roadmaster Base Plates # 462-1 Work with a Stowmaster Tow Bar for a 2002 Ford Ranger
The Roadmaster Stowmaster tow bar is compatible with standard base plate kit # 477-1 for your 2003 Ford Ranger if you have an Edge model. The XL kit, # 483-1, for the XL and XLT truck models has removable arms so that when you are not towing the truck they can be removed making the rest of the kit virtually invisible. I have included a link to a video and a link to the instructions for the Stowmaster, # RM-501.

  • Will Base Plate Kit from 1996 Ford Ranger Fit a 2001 Ford Ranger
The base plate kit you purchased for your 1996 Ford Ranger is part # 435-3 which fits up through 1997. It looks like there was a generation change with the Ranger for the 1998 model year. So, unfortunately, the kit you have will not fit on your 2001. For your newer truck the Roadmaster kits we have are part # 483-1 for the XL and XLT or part # 477-1 for the Edge. Either kit works with whatever tow bar you were using to tow the 1996 truck because they have the same type of connections.

  • Base Plates and Tow Bar Compatible with a 2003 Ford Ranger
We do have two possible options for a 2003 Ford Ranger. First are base plates # 483-1, which will fit the XL and XLT models. Second is # 477-1 which will fit the Edge model with a tow hook. The base plates for a 1997 Ford Ranger, # 435-3, will not fit on a 2003 Ford Ranger. If you need a tow bar, I recommend the RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, # RM-020. With this tow bar, to make the XL extensions removable, you would also need Roadmaster Tow Bar Quick Disconnect Kit, # RM-201.
