Question:
I have purchased a 2006 Ford Ranger Pickup which I want to flat tow behind my motorhome. Are there special brackets to mount on the pickup for the tow bar or are they universal mounts. I need to order a tow bar and brackets but I am not sure which brackets to purchase.

If your 2006 Ford Ranger is an XL or XLT then use # 483-1 for base plates. Use # 477-1 if it's a Sport model or # 477-5 for the STX. All of these sets are compatible with the Blackhawk 2 tow bar # RM-422 The tow bar is rated for 10,000 pounds.
You will also need safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. For safety cables use # BX88196, rated for 7,500 pounds.
For lighting you can use a simple magnetic light kit # TLL21RK.
Most states now require a supplemental braking system in the vehicle be flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the Ranger brakes in proportion to how much the motor home is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult the Ranger owners manual for specific information on flat towing it. I have also included a couple of helpful links on flat towing for you.
