This portable video camera syncs with your Android or iOS device to create a backup camera system for your vehicle. Download the free RamCam app and place your smartphone or tablet in the included stand. The camera attaches to your vehicle with rare earth magnets so that you can easily reposition it. This system gives you hands-free viewing while you rock crawl, makes it easier to hitch up to your trailer, and offers the safety of a backup camera.

RamCam App

Ram Cam App Screen

To sync the camera to your smartphone or tablet, download the free RamCam app and turn the camera on. Open the settings on your phone or tablet, and then choose the camera from the list of Wi-Fi connections that appear on your device.

The RamCam app allows you to rotate your view, record video, and take screenshots that can be saved to your phone or tablet. And when the sky turns dark, you can turn on the camera's light from your device without leaving the comfort of your vehicle.

Backup Camera System

Rampage Backup Camera Hitch View

Traditional rearview mirrors don't provide a complete view of the area behind you, and drivers often cannot see areas close to the vehicle and below their mirrors. Adding this backup camera helps you increase your area of vision while you're driving in reverse. It sends mirror-image video to your smartphone or tablet in your vehicle so you see an image that is consistent with your rearview and side mirrors, with the additional benefit of being able to see objects, people, or animals that are lower to the ground than your vehicle's mirrors.

Portable Camera with Magnetic Base

Rampage Backup Camera on Truck Tailgate

When you want to use the camera, just mount and position it on your vehicle's metal body panel and twist the cover to reveal the lens and the light. This light helps illuminate the area around the camera, and you can turn the light on and off with the RamCam app. You can also pivot the camera down on its base to create a better viewing angle.

Rampage Backup Camera Mounted on Jeep Fender

You can mount the camera near the license plate for a better view while backing up your vehicle. Or use the camera to see parking space lines or to better determine the distance to another vehicle's bumper while parallel parking. You can also align your trailer hitch and coupler by yourself, without getting in and out of your vehicle or asking someone to assist you. Or use this camera in your truck bed to get a better view while hitching up a fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailer. For improved views while rock crawling, mount the camera on a fender.

Rampage Camera Base

Three rare earth magnet feet let you mount the camera on your vehicle's tailgate or on any other metal spot on the body. Each powerful magnet has 15 lbs of pull, so the camera is mounted securely. Felt covers on the magnets protect your vehicle from getting scratched. And because the base uses magnets rather than permanent mounting, relocating the camera to another spot on your vehicle or to another vehicle is easy. The camera's magnetic feet let you detach the unit and store it in your vehicle's glove compartment.

Rampage Camera Cover

The built-in dust cover twists closed to protect the lens, light, and USB outlet when you are not using the camera.

Wireless System with Wi-Fi Hot Spot

When the camera is turned on, it creates its own Wi-Fi hot spot that works anywhere, regardless of cellular service and without the need for radio frequencies. As long as your Android or iOS phone or tablet has Wi-Fi capability, you can use the system.

This Wi-Fi connection is twice as fast as a Bluetooth connection, so you get real-time video. And you won't have interference like you would with Bluetooth. The wireless design of this backup camera means that it can be installed quickly and easily - no drilling or hardwiring required.

Two of the three mounting feet broke within the first couple of uses. Used epoxy to repair and continued to use. It’s nearly impossible to synchronize with my iPhone. It make take a dozen tries to sync. Maybe I got a lemon but Very disappointed with the product. 724566

Camera works as advertised and the free phone app has some good features. My only recommendation would be to use better/stronger magnets. There is no way I would leave this attached to my vehicle if I were driving more than a few feet to back up to the trailer. I had hoped that I could leave it attached and use it as a back up camera on my truck while I'm driving down the road. Ideally I wish they made a "port" that could be permanently attached to the vehicle and the camera inserted into it. That way you could attach the camera and leave it on the truck, or trailer, all the time, and just remove it when you need. Would be much more reliable than three magnets. But these magnets won't hold if you hit a slight bump. But the image is good and the app works flawlessly. So it's well worth the price. 326100

I bought this as a gift for my son to help him hitch his equipment trailer alone. In terms of function, I think it will be perfect because I tried it out but haven't given it to him yet - a birthday present ... On the down side, it feels pretty cheap since it is all plastic. The dust cover doesn't slide very well and at first, I thought I was going to break it but it did slide finally. I would have paid more for a device that was made of better quality materials and, given the materials used in this unit, I think this unit was pricey but if it reliably does the job for my son, I'll be satisfied. Stay tuned ... 436487

Camera itself is good. Magnets were ok once I took the felt pads off. Application for android has issue where the mirror function just rotates the image and does not mimic a mirror as stated. Sent an email to application developer on Google Store and they couldn't even bother to respond to me. Based on the Application support alone I would put this down as a "don't buy". No reflection on ETrailer though as the purchase experience was flawless as usual. 231055

Dimple to use. Decent range. The feet are weak. Snapped one off on a dropping. Camera in not weather resistant which is lame. 241741

Comments
Camera still works, but it does have usability issues. The magnet feet broke off easily. All of them. I had to epoxy them back on and reinforce them. The refresh rate of the camera to the device Iphone 7 can be dangerous. The image freezes and not update as you are backing up, so I had to learn about this issue and constantly check to see it the camera was really showing where I was. Also the camera is not water resistant. This really should be a feature of a external backup camera. I live I WA state – rain is common. Also the camera is hinted at being used as a off road vehicle spotter. It is too fragile for this activity and again, not water resistant. Thank you for checking up.

I have spoken to our tech contacts at Rampage and the Android updates are a constant battle with them. They know at this time that the 8.0 version of Android works with this back up camera, but they are still working on the 9.0 version and newer compatibility with the app.

Its just ok. The picture is a little grainy, lacks depth for judging distance, camera picture settings are difficult, and the connection is in and out to the back of my 30' gooseneck flat deck with my phone in hand, hanging out the window. I sat the camera 25' back at the top of the dovetail, so maybe 35' from driver's seat to camera. Empty trailer so nothing but gooseneck frame in the way, barely. The built in light is fairly bright, which makes up for difficult picture settings, which is entirely the fault of the app. You have to pull up the settings menu, which takes over the whole screen, make a picture adjustment, click "save", and then go back to see if the setting is correct. Rinse, repeat. There is no "default" picture setting or "auto adjust" capability. You could literally spend an hour trying to get a good picture. The magnetic mount is nice and keeps it secure to steel. Not gonna work if you have a late model Ford. I won't test this out at highway speeds though. The camera mount holder thing is fairly useless. It has no mounting base to keep it secure so it will slide all over, tip, drop the phone, etc. Its just a plastic A-frame basically. There is no wall charger, so use your own or charge in vehicle only. Overall, I'm not that impressed. It ranks right there with one of those Chinese special camera app bore scopes that you can get on special for $18 online. I have one of those too, so I can compare. 612881

Thank you for the continued follow-up. I bought this camera for 2 reasons, 1. Your video with the review and 2. You were a known company and I expected that if you are selling and reviewing it must meet your standards , or you wouldn't sell it. I opened the Rampage Wi-Fi camera last night and at first look I am a little disappointed, clearly you care about what customers are saying so I am taking the time write this. First impressions: 1. Overall quality does not seem very rugged, description of powerful magnets seems a bit of a stretch.. magnets do not seem very strong ( I will test this) 2. I went to download the software as instructed.. noticed the bad reviews on app so I read them ( I had not done this before.. probably should have) 3. Initial testing: Camera image froze often, in your review you did not mention it had sound.. not a huge problem but there are no controls to shut it off. 4. App froze several times, I can see how the bad reviews got there. I will look at again this weekend but at first glance I probably will return, I think your review should have been a bit more realistic and spoken about the app, or better yet... If it doesn't meet your min level of quality and functionality.. don't sell it. I want to be able to buy from a company where you have a standard minimum quality expectation and know if I but it from you it is worth buying. 604302

The Ram Cam is just what I have been looking for. I plan to use it on our small camping trailer to help back into camping sites. I can't wait to get one that works. The first one would not turn on. The second one worked, but the camera lens was not aligned with the hole in the case, so the right side of the picture was missing. I am looking forward to receiving my third Ram Cam. Hope the third time is a charm. Ram Cam seems to have a quality control problem. One other comment, my finger nails are not long enough or small enough to use the the on-off switch. I have to use a knife on nail file. etrailer has done a excellent job of accepting returns and trying to get me a working Ram Cam. 481644

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Hyundai Kona for Bike Rack
For your 2018 Hyundai Kona I'd recommend the Draw Tite part # 24976 over the Curt part # C11529 for a bike rack because the Draw Tite does not require you to use a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack unlike the Curt. For a bike rack I really like the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F. This is a lightweight platform rack (which is normally an unheard of combo). That means it'll be easy to install and remove from your vehicle since it's light, but...
